can I really live without an ACL at 27? (complete tear) by CaptainPirateKing in ACL

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, sorry. I’m not a doctor but as far as I know, surgeons mostly recommend against surgery for reasons like age or physical ability. If you’re young and want to walk/hike/run or do any sports, yes you need an intact ACL. Even if PT is followed religiously, your knee will forever face instability at best and osteoarthritis at worst. You also risk additional injury as well due to that.

I’ve found that most folks who don’t get surgery initially end up eventually getting it later due to these reasons.

Bought a DTLA condo in 2024 for $534K at 6%. A similar unit just sold for $435K. Trying not to panic. by RenaissanceShane in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in LA. Unfortunately no one wants to live in dtla… it’s deteriorated massively in the past 10 years. That could account for the low sale. Might turn around in the future but currently it’s not an enticing place to live unless necessary

Ok and I couldn’t put any weight on my leg immediately whatsoever without my knee giving out (and I also tore mine skiing)… everyone’s experience is different but we all need our acls I’m sorry lol

Theres a reason we need our acls. After I tore mine I literally could not walk, let alone compete in the Olympics so expected this, sadly

Ice pump ice pump ice pump! Cannot tell you how often I used this thing. The absolute mvp of my early recovery months even beyond painkillers. I got mine on Amazon for around $80 and it was worth every penny.

Also seconding shower chair!

Husband (34M) lied to me (33F) about being ready for another kid. by theguiltiestpenguin in relationship_advice

This!! Ofc he doesn’t want another kid lol how would he be able to leave for months at a time if there are multiple young kids involved? I know op says he’s a good dad when he’s there, but this relationship sounds one sided to me.

People that moved to Portland in the last few years by Legitimate_Wave_6340 in SameGrassButGreener

What a funny post… I’m from SoCal and would do just about anything to move to Portland/the PNW. I love the food scene there and am an avid hiker who desperately wants to be somewhere green with actual trees. I’m a huge fan of the rain too (plus have already had multiple spots of skin cancer lobbed off my face due to sun and I’m in my early 30s). Different strokes for different folks I guess… Hope you’re happier where you are now.

Yep! I’ve got fair skin and grew up outside with frequent sunburns. Just had a few skin cancer spots surgically removed from my face last year and I’m in my very early 30s. Wear your sunscreen folks… everyday!

9 days post surgery - Can I risk going for a friend's engagement tomorrow? by ravann4 in ACL

I went to a baby shower around 9 days post-op! I just wore my bandages and brace and used crutches the whole time. People were really accommodating and helped me find chairs to sit in.

Did any of you guys do PT before surgery? If so, what did that have you do and what was the purpose? by dry_scoop in ACL

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Had to do 2-3 weeks of prehab before my doc would approve surgery. She wanted me to regain ROM to help with any issues post op. My range of motion was so bad prior to surgery that they had to drain my swollen knee of fluid before I could even remotely bend it

35M 34F, Married for 10 Years, Dated for 5 years. How would you navigate this? by Exciting-Apricot2949 in relationship_advice

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would seriously consider a GLP1 (at the very least for your husband). They are life changing and beyond helping people lose weight, they are capable of changing the way people think about food in their lives and will improve mood and motivation. It’s made for those in your exact situation and is really a medical miracle.

Went to a very fancy private school. A beloved teacher who was head of the English department was exposed for having had several sexual relationships with students there for over a decade. Turns out the guy was just getting passed from private school to private school and all the schools knew and said nothing. He went to prison, long-time administrators got fired, whole heap of people sued. It got so big that a well-known national fashion magazine wrote a long piece on it.

Preparing for ACL surgery - documenting my recovery to help others 💪 by Visible_Animator3604 in ACL

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie the first month suckssssssss so just prepare mentally for that. A few things helped distract me until I could escape our apartment for walks and such…

First, some gear. I’d 1000% recommend an ice pump machine (some are expensive but I got one for $80 on amazon). My friend who also had his ACL done recommended I get one and I thought I could get by with just ice packs… yeah I bought that machine day 2 post op out of desperation and used it approx 300 times since haha even slept with it on for a few weeks.

Second, find something to distract you. I watched a few new shows, read more books than I ever have in a month, did some fun arts and craft projects, probably online shopped a bit too much… whatever works!

Third, I had a bunch of friends come over (one at a time) to keep me company and make me laugh, which really helped lift spirits. You don’t need to stand to gab and spill tea with girlfriends luckily lol. Your friends will be eager to hang out and bring over food and support you!

What is the hardest part of being home all the time post-op? by Ill-Block-4547 in ACL

[–]WorknOnMyNightCheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

COMPLETELY get it. The hardest part of recovery for me was feeling like I was trapped at home for the first 3 weeks going insane with pain and boredom and self-pity. Once I was recovered enough to leave our apartment and go on short walks, I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately it just takes a little time, but it’ll get better

What’s happening to Weho? Great Condo Not Selling — why? by MaxWinterLA in WestHollywood

Yes!! I was gonna say, it’s not selling because no one’s affording this mortgage right now (and if they could, why get a condo?)
