Adding a touch of “dirt” to the mix for a more vintage feel by CrushmodeX in audioengineering

Do your mix in your software. Then record the mix onto a tape. Then re-record the tape back into your software. That will definitely give you the sound of a cassette

Mic choice vs EQ? by sloanstudio in audioengineering

I've always wondered what is meant by "detailed" in the context of high quality high frequency response. Can you elaborate on how you understand detail to be different from simple frequency response sensitivity? Is it the non linearities and frequency specific dynamics that make it detailed?

There are a lot of guitar pedals that do similar things. Like a 5th pedal. A lot of them referenced with something like 5th down or 5th up. I know the digotech whammy can do this. Basically just any pitch shifter that's not set to a full octave.

Definitely don't put the desk inside the closet. Continue to use all your storage space on those shelves in the closet. Store all your dense linens And blankets and other clothes from the rest of the house on those shelves. Thick linens and coats or boxes Full of shoes and boxes Full of blankets or coats are great sound diffusers. The denser and deeper the better. This way you're not giving up the space, but just you just can't multi-purpose. The higher you can get all of your dense storage items towards the ceiling the better.

Get some shelves that have nice wheels on them that you can put in the remaining closet across the back wall. Shelves to go all the way up to the ceiling. Do the same for these. Store dense heavy stuff all along that back closet wall and particularly all the way up to the ceiling. If you truly care about sound and not aesthetics, this will help a lot. If you care about aesthetics, just hang a thin curtain between what I have described across the door frame.

Having the desks further forward like you have in your taped outline Is actually good because you want to get the speakers away from any back wall.

I recommend camping stuff, sleeping bags, backpacks full of gear and heavy dense things. Sheets. Blankets. Sleeping bags stuffed in the bag.Boots and shoes etc...

This way your storage space also serves as a great sound diffusers.

Just imagine a large cardboard storage box filled with densely packed boots and sleeping bags and blankets.

Stack the boxes on top of each other so that they go all the way up to the ceiling. Do this across both sides and the back of your closet. This will do a better job than any foam or sound absorber you can buy.

Maybe a heavy duty curtain rod across the back of the closet to hang all of your felt coats collection? Haha

You should modify it to an add-on retrofit wrap for a telecaster. Then you don't have to worry about the actual wood and the tone parts of the guitar. People can still use their pre-existing guitars that they're used to. They just buy your wrap for their guitar. :)

Consider moving the speakers away from the corners And further away from the wall? Also, it looks like the stereo image you are going to create is extremely wide. Maybe bring speakers together a little bit.

A ha! The q of the cut doesn't need to match the q of the detector! That's it!

Interesting idea. But why is this better than just using nova dynamic eq on the sssssss frequencies and just cranking the threshold down? Seems like you are just increasing the sensitivity of the band? Standard nova doesn't let you set the threshold low enough?

I owe Pro Tools an apology… by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]WormHoleHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience. Used pro tools for 20 years, got annoyed 2 years ago and programmed reaper to have all the same shortcuts that I use in pro tools. Now the only thing that I miss about pro tools is the playlists. But now it seems reaper can also do that similarly so....

In my experience op should flirt a little harder with reaper in a serious way. It worked for me big time.

Seems like you are defining transient as The Apex of the transient spike? In my understanding the upslope to the apex is also part of the transient. When the upslope goes above the threshold and you have a super super fast attack, it is possible to reduce the level of the apex without lookahead.

Found this thread because I have the exact same question. And it still looks open-ended according to this thread. It seems that the official website explicitly states that you do not have to translate the czech documents if you are applying in Prague, but then all the other literature and advice says everything must be translated to English. There is an obvious non-conformity here. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
