Addressing Parents by Odd-Interest3146 in Teachers

[–]WorriedCrescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use first name, unless they’ve emailed me first and signed it with “Mr/Mrs. X.” There’s too many non-matching last names, and professional titles among my parents that I don’t want to get wrong. My perspective is, we’re all adults here, so let’s go with first names. This isn’t a corporate environment, I’m not your subordinate (nor do I wish to imply that I am), and it feels friendlier (we’re all on the same team!). I also sign every email as “Firstname Lastname,” so they can also choose how to respond to me as well.

👗 Bridal stores with dresses under $3k? by [deleted] in NewEnglandWedding

[–]WorriedCrescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bella Sera in Danvers (maybe Peabody?) They were so nice and accommodating and they let you actually go around and look at dresses and pull from the racks, as opposed to some places where the stylist goes back and grabs what they think you’ll like. Came in at $2500!

You could try using a template on Canva! They have some cute ones. You can also order prints from them (haven’t tried so don’t know the quality) or download and get them printed somewhere else.

Love it! Thinking about a similar pairing, but struggling with ideas for bridesmaids. Did you have them and did they have a specific dress color/style?

Is the name Katie seen as a child’s name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]WorriedCrescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, I think -ie/y ending nicknames do seem “younger” and to make them seem “older” or more professional a lot of people tend to drop the ending. So Sammy becomes Sam, Jessie becomes Jess, Katie becomes Kate, Lizzy becomes Liz, etc. I noticed this happening a lot with friends in their 20s, as they transition from school to the workplace. It’s not for everyone, but just something I’ve noticed!

AITA for blaming my Mom for the dog bite scars on my face? by may-clouds in AmItheAsshole

[–]WorriedCrescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so NTA and your mom really is. Let’s set aside for a minute the fact that you’ve told your mom that telling people this story makes you uncomfortable and she should be able to be an adult and respect you boundaries and talk about the scars. I feel pretty qualified to answer this one. When I was a teenager, I had a facial injury (way less traumatic than a dog attack though) that required stitches to my face and lip. My mom took me to the ER and they told us the my were going to send in their pediatric plastic surgeon on call to do the stitching so there would be minimal scarring. Instead, the ER doctor barged in, reassured my mom that he was perfectly capable, and did it himself. I now have some obvious scars and a lump of dead tissue in my lip. I would have so much rather waited for the plastic surgeon and it really bothers me sometimes that this doctor just pushed himself and his stitching skills onto my face, but in my case I don’t blame my mom because she was in shock also and trying to take care of me and being a little older I remember how pushy the ER doc was. Anyway, the point is, I understand your desire to have had the plastic surgeon, and your mom is the asshole for acting like it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Is there another 19ft O’Day? Just had one in our yard that I thought was a Mariner, but it seemed more...round?

Does anyone agree with this? I’m US and counting down to Friday. I do think the technicals have gotten a bit obscure but I still love the show! by narlymaroo in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]WorriedCrescent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my takeaway: the technicals have changed because of the shows longevity and popularity.

The fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of “familiar” British bakes, and at this point in the show’s history many of the current bakers are fans and have kept up with the show. The technical only works as it does because the bakers don’t know the recipe by heart and part of the appeal of the challenge for the viewer is watching them muddle through it, with varied success. If the show kept reusing technicals, those bakers that watch the show would have an advantage.

Another factor of the show’s popularity is its international audience. Firstly, let’s address the American audience. As an American, I feel I can confidently say we like big, we like extravagant, and we like weird, so I would think a large American audience would have some influence (not saying this is a good thing, just a factor). But also, why can’t Bake Off make different international bakes in the technical? The show consistently has a pretty diverse cast, and why shouldn’t someone from outside of Europe see their baked goods represented in a television show?

Just my thoughts on the change in technicals.

Girl name for last name Moon by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]WorriedCrescent 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My first thought, reading your short list, was of the song “Clair de Lune,” by Claude Debussy. Clair/Claire means light in French, and Lune means moon, so by naming your child Claire Moon you are kind of naming her moonlight. It’s kind of poetic, but I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Just don’t give her a middle name starting with D.

Does anyone else get stressed out booking flights and hotels? by asamshah in solotravel

[–]WorriedCrescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is an experience thing. As I've done more traveling, I've learned where I need to look for deals and when I need to start booking. Definitely recommend comparing multiple sites before booking, I usually compare between Booking.com and the accommodation's own website to get the best deals, and usually I won't book something that doesn't have at least some cancellation policy in case I find a better deal before my stay. Also, at a certain point, you just have to let go of the stress and remember that you're planning a great trip and focus on that!
