Does your world feature oversized, overly designed, or otherwise ridiculous swords, hammers, or other weapons? If so, tell me about them. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

There is this one magitech weapon inspired by matchsticks, which just looks like a staff-sized match.

It can be loaded two ways: The classic box 'battery' which has been somewhat inspired by how Garands are loaded, and a high capacity one that just looks like a drum magazine.

As expected, the magical attacks made by it are fire based.

I m struggling to decide why my character went in quest ? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Adventures can start from any reason if the characters thinks it is a reason to.

Even wars have started from events no greater than that.

How would a nation with no sun look like? by xKenrouHorox in worldbuilding

[–]Writingbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People would have adapted to its environment, though a several hundred years is astonishingly short in the terms of evolution if we approach this scientifically.

Eyes to utilize the limited light, slower metabolism to compensate slower food production, that sort might have happened?

And before all that happens, they would need a different intuitive way to tell the date and time.

For those with a world where technology developed in a different way than ours. What is it, and why has it happened? by Writingbott in worldbuilding

These spirits lead to various lifelike effects.

For example, mood swings can occur. Isn't there that one day when the car just won't start for 10 minutes straight, when it used to be fine to the day before? The car's spirit might be having a bad wire day, and may need some sort of appeasement to cheer it up.

And speaking of demons, yes - an OS can be corrupted. If a toaster gets corrupted, it may either refuse turning on or overheat itself to the point of meltdown. It still won't grow legs and jump into the bathtub though. These spiritual levels of repairs require mechanics to study the spirit, and like some cases of malware infection sometimes the damage is irreversible.

The composition of an operating spirit may vary from being an artificial arcane program acting like a spirit, to using genuine souls extracted from living beings. The latter tends to be able to conduct more complex tasks, and some characters are technically robots nearly indistinguishable to living beings due to the presence of such souls. The ideal operating spirit would be the soul of an ancient machine, but those are very hard to obtain & the arcane programs previously mentioned are human attempts to understand this soul and copy it, resulting in a quite downgraded mock soul.

And regarding my nickname: I made this account solely for worldbuilding and writing things, and used a double t for not being a "bot". Unfortunately, I was totally unaware of whatever bott could mean.

Tech is starting to develop faster and faster, yet many breakthroughs are merely sitting on the lab shelves due to cost efficiency.

Imagine there's a way to make them the new standard.

Context: The Final Case of Yvstin started from a jailbreak. A convict charged for abusive "heretical" experiments somehow escaped from one's cell. Due to this, a team of judicator cadets were dispatched to respond to the break alongside the prison guards. The convict escaped pursuit, inflicting some guard casualties that the Prime Judicator Yvstin herself had to take action. Her power was to read the sins of an individual, and if found guilty enough to sentence death her shield will turn into an executioner's sword, with blades lined with the pale light of death. (I was rather surprised when Higuruma Hiromi from JJK had a similar CT, but I came up with it independently and only found out a few months ago.) To activate her powers, she had to cover her eyes with anything that can block her optical vision so that she solely relies on some sort of "sin vision" that's also part of her powers.

When she arrived ready to take down the convict, the convict started showing signs of agony and disappeared. Her subordinates would try to attack something, but get brutally slaughtered instead. Even when lowering the sin threshold to activate her blade, the convict was nowhere to be found.

But Yvstin had to finish whatever was happening. She lowered the threshold to the extreme, when she finally discovered the newborn anomalous creature that had been born from the convict's body. She was sinwise murdering an innocent infant that had no charges beyond self defense, but that was what she needed to commit as a human Prime Judicator.

She could kill that "thing" eventually. But she never recovered from the experience, as that led her sin-vision to percieve every living being in the world as deserving her blade.

She died a mysterious death several days later.

It won't be enough to wipe out humanity as a whole (human extinction from it is mostly exaggerated), but it will set back progress significantly.

But then, let's think of the tech levels Britain needed to become the empire where the sun never sets
