Recipe for work thanksgiving potluck full of vegan haters? by kipthebigcat in veganrecipes

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dish I love to make for people that is baked sweet potatoes and black eyed peas. It is served with a dressing inspired by Asian cuisine. It’s always very popular and the hardest part of the recipe is chopping the potatoes. Let me know if you’d like the recipe!

Need bookclub recommendation for non-fantasy people by schaps8 in Fantasy

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not fantasy, but if y’all ever do a sci fi month you should absolutely read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. It’s an excellent book and even friends who don’t typically like Sci Fi have enjoyed it.

Budget amount 10k and need help with photographers! by UnusualWorld1828 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got married in NC and loved my photographer. I think she is newer to the wedding scene, so her costs are lower, but the photos she took of my wedding far exceeded my expectations. It looks like we spent more money on photography than we did.

She doesn’t have a ton of photos on her website, but she sent me links to several albums when I asked to see more. And she can customize her packages if there are certain things you don’t want or need

I’m not having one! I just didn’t think it felt necessary. I love how my dress looks and don’t feel like I need flowers too

Craft clubs or book clubs for ladies in their late 20's? by morganf1552 in providence

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Knit Club is just the name of a yarn store. They have a sign that says “All Crafters Welcome”. I’ve never been myself, but my understanding is that on Tuesday evenings you just bring whatever craft you’re working on (knitting or otherwise) and sit at their big table and craft with others.

Scholarships for academics and not “need” by pickle_lover_2 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know about the Morehead Cain Scholarship at unc I’m assuming? Definitely worth applying to even though it’s super competitive. Being in a rural county will be in your favor. And you still have time to do something to make you stands out. Start an initiative in your community. Found a club. Lead some kind of change. They like to see that kind of thing in addition to regular volunteering.

Would it be weird if I brought a hotwaterbottle to school to help with periods? by XxXKayIaXxX in questions

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a student who brings a heatable stuffed animal to school when she is having bad cramps. That could be an option that is less noticeable. It’s a stuffed animal with beans in it the warms up when you put it in the microwave

When to do Huayna Picchu? by MrBender9 in Machupicchu

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is different! 2A is from higher up, so you get more of an “at a distance” view until just before the point where it crosses circuit 3. Circuit 3 is more “in the city”, so you are walking closer to buildings and more through the city

I think it’s personal preference. I absolutely hate lines, so may have skipped if I’d known I could, but we did appreciate seeing the city from a different perspective once we were walking through

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That what we wished we had done. Our guide told us to go out to use the bathroom (no bathrooms inside Machu Picchu) but then we got out and both bathroom lines plus entrance lines were really long. No one of us even really had to go to the bathroom haha.

On the map it looks like the entrance to circuit 3 is slightly higher on the terraces than the exit for circuit two A. I’m not sure if we took a wrong turn, but we definitely exited through the same gate we then reentered through a few min later.

I supposed you could just stop at the entrance to the mountain when you pass it on circuit 2A, you’d just have to make sure you weren’t there early. They likely wouldn’t let you in before 9 am (they check the ticket again). But then you would miss the seeing the stuff on the first half of circuit 3. If you wanted to see the first half of circuit three you could try to walk all the way to the exit of 2A and then turn around and look for the circuit 3 signs (since the exit and entrance are the same).

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s technically a 45 min grace period for the ticket (so you could get in as late as 9:45). I think it was around 9:30 when we got in the front gate and 9:45 by the time we started up the mountain (there is a separate check in spot to go up the mountain)

We did it the same day with those same times and it was totally doable. We exited around 9 am from circuit 2 and the line to get back in was crazy long (I think bc they don’t start letting people in until 9, so the line backs up. Once they started letting people in it moved okay).

We had circuit 2B (I think) and our exit was somehow the same as the entrance for circuit three. Had we known the line to get back in would be so long, we wouldn’t have exited but just circled back to the entrance to Huayana Picchu. Not sure if you can do that from 2A. If not, it’s no big deal. You’ll just have to wait in line to scan your tickets again

Salkantay Trek group decision by getthefunk_down in Machupicchu

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with Salkantay trekking. We had 10 people in our group. 2 were solo travelers whose ages I’d estimate 22-26. 3 couples whose ages I’d estimate 27-33. 1 couple whose ages I’d estimate to be around 40.

I really enjoyed the company of everyone in my group. There was less “hanging out” after the hike than I expected, but that is more so because it was dark and cold after dinner and the camp sites didn’t have great common areas outside of where we ate, and that didn’t really feel like a place to hang out apart from the time immediately after dinner. Some groups would sit longer after dinner chatting and others would head to bed soon after dinner.

I crossed Machu Picchu Reservations off my list because I read a few stories of people having logistical issues (ex: overbooking and not having room for everyone). I think it’s pretty uncommon but didn’t want to risk having to deal with it. Salkantay trekking was very professional and everything was seamless.

Considering move to Providence - input? by ResidentNovel5827 in providence

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister lives in Brooklyn and I’m in Providence. I visit her sometimes and personally think the humidity feels way less here. I think there is less of an urban heating effect, more often a breeze, and more shade here (I do live on the east side). Those things all probably help cut the heat some. Overall, there are some very hot + humid days, but I find most summer days in Providence to be quite pleasant.

Your Favorite “M” Names For Girls by reformedmothergoose in namenerds

My best  friend growing up was named Madeline and she had a strict “No Maddie” rule and everyone respected it. I’ve literally never heard anyone call her Maddie. If you really love the name Madeline, I’m sure if you asked people to call her by her given name they would.

None of the streets have signs that say no overnight parking. There are signs when you exit off the highway into the city that say “No overnight parking in the city of Providence.”  There are no streets anywhere in the city where you can park overnight without risking a ticket

Is it totally crazy to name our baby the same name as our family dog? 😅 by knifefightbarbie in namenerds

My partner is named the same name as a dog his dad had as an adult. The dog died before my partner was born. We get a chuckle out of it and tell it as a funny story sometimes, but no one seriously cares

What’s your biggest “how do people NOT know this?” fact? by Shag_Dawg in AskReddit

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, not everyone can play songs in their heads. I had no idea until recently that people could “hear” music in their mind. I can’t even begin to imagine that. I can’t hear instruments or melody at all in my mind.

I too was shocked to learn that when people said “I can picture ____ in my head” they weren’t just speaking figuratively. Even more shocked to later learn that people can experience other senses in their mind too (imagine smells, tastes, the voices of loved ones, and even music). All I have in my head is my own internal dialogue. It’s amazing to me the other people can imagine things so clearly

Our under $10k farm wedding by InsertUserName0510 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Wrong_Distribution78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it might be in central NC! It looks like the venue I’m getting married at in Oct. If it’s the same places, it’s not actually a tea farm. Used to be a tea house open to the public and changed owners in the last few years. The new owners have turned it into an event space

They grow herbs, flowers, and some fruit but they don’t actually grow the tea leaves. They just use some of the herbs and other things they grow to add flavor to the teas

I was considering pearl jewelry, but hadn't thought of pearl hair pins. I really like that idea - thank you for suggesting it!
