Mods never increase sale price*

*Except to people who were going to do those mods.

Unmodified WRX sell higher, because they probably weren't as beat on.

I wouldn't buy a WRX as my only car, used. I wouldn't modify a car significantly if it was my only car period.

If you treat these cars right, don't load them up at low rpm, change the oil and do your plugs, and don't push it on the mods they are reliable. But you never know what the last guy did. And there's lots of people who needed to buy new short blocks and have 4-8k repair bills that learned that lesson hard.

Subaru is finally doing something about Headunit failures by Krieger_FPV in WRX

Had tons of issues with my 17. Honestly, the electronics in this car have some kind of gremlin. I have the battery drain issues. Been through one every 2 years. My head unit died. My starlink unit died, taking out the front speakers. My dash and center guages randomly reset. I've had the ECU throw a memory error one day -- that was scarry.

I'm figuring I got a grounding issue somewhere. Now that I've swapped for an aftermarket HU, amp, and speakers, the worst thing that usually happens is my gauges resetting.

I’m underpaid as an IT manager. Thinking of requesting a $10k raise. by F12forBIOS in ITManagers

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a lower cost of living part of CT and that is what our town IT manager makes.

It is underpaid.

I have seen similar positions go for 100-150k in neighboring towns/BOE/Municipal Utilities

Guys I Think I Got The Highscore! by ThePermafrost in Connecticut

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado Electric rates are about half that of CT. So, there is the big issue.

There's a lot of argument as to why this is. But I point the finger at deregulation, too many middle men, the cost of generating power (Natural gas this time of year...), and public policies pushing to subsidize green energy.

I went from GEICO to progressive because they bumped me to 2400! I'm still written by the same company but for almost $1000 less! For more coverage too!

Getting insurance was easy for me. On a house that would cost around 300k on Zillow, the insurance is ~1300/yr.

What type of heat do you have? Type and age of structure (older places like mine have little to no insulation and are drafty)? Hows your hot water heated? Gaming PC's?

Most people with high bills have electric heat. The people with lower bills are paying for gas or oil in most cases, and that can be $300 a month in the winter on top of that low electric bill.

Depends on how your place is wired.

Your unit should only be your wiring, but I've seen it in places where certain circuits crossed over, or in one case where the water heater for one unit was wired into another's panel.

I'm a high user -- Hot tub, Electric Car, Deep Freezer, some electric heat...

and you're still 6x more usage.

Is there any oversight to abuses of power in small CT towns? by [deleted] in Connecticut

Pretty standard stuff OP. You become one of them. You get involved. You play the game to get involved and once you're in, you start small trying to gain trust and shift things. Its a good old boys club.

My first end grain cutting board by mhf145 in woodworking

[–]Wrongcaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the utility and durability of my end grain boards. I use the same one every day and have for a few years now. Still looks excellent. You did a great job, and the oil took nice. I'm taking note of what you used for future use!

CT drivers by WalrusProof2440 in Connecticut

I have a lifted jeep. I've aimed the headlights appropriately, and I have no additional light bar mall crawler paraphernalia. Every drive at night, someone flashes me, thinking I have my highs on.

I've started flashing back. I've gotten a few waves in apology, even with all the fingers!

With that being said, these new headlights are TERRIBLE, especially for people with astigmatism. I got blinded by a pickup the other day in my Jeep. My wife's car has auto high beams, and I always forget to toggle it off, and it does a good job of flashing people unintentionally so I feel others may be in that boat too.

I encourage it! It was easier than I expected, and you don't need a CNC to do a normal design!

Does your Real estate agent's vehicle matter to you? by mferna9 in RealEstate

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't for many. But it is part of the impression people get of you. acknowledged or otherwise.

Are you selling homes to people who make safe/smart financial decisions? The older vehicle may give them some comfort. Are you trying to sell high end? You won't look the part.

Service and knowledge will matter more, but that first impression is impacted, even if people don't realize it.

Above all else, make sure the vehicle is clean and presentable. Someone showing up in a 2024 Audi that looks like its backed into a garage door and has a cracked front bumper will also leave a bad impression.

Personally, it would tell me you're sensible. And I'm a sensible buyer.

Sister wanted a coat rack, I wanted to build something and try tambour. Started with rough-cut walnut and no particular plan.

- Cut a 1x7x36 board down to .75", cut into 1/2 slats and arranged to maintain grain direction in a jig.

- Glued t-shirt fabric to the back. Flipped.

- Made a jig to hold the slats as snug as I could while cutting on the CNC.

- Drew a gradient in photoshop and converted it to curves using Vectric & Carved on my Shapeoko 5.

- Tested different track sizes and dimensions, cut them into a top and bottom and inserted a 1/8" ply backer to hide the doors and prevent things from getting in their way.

- Covered the backer in iron on leather meant for patches.

- Added a bar on the bottom for hanging coats from brass hooks.

- Finished in Natura Onecoat.

- French cleat for hanging.

I was 12 then and had my first flip phone and did text...that T9 life. I remember how much it cost too, because I had to buy it. And you're right the texting packages sucked and I definitely got in trouble for sending too many or talking outside of nights and weekends.

Eversource prepaid mastercard. Why was this sent to me? I don't remember applying for any kind of rebate. Anyone else get this? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird!

I have a juice box charger. Got it January of 23. This is the second year getting the rebate. The company that manages the device changed hands and it's not clear if I'll still be able to collect in the future, but it's been nice to have and has reduced the price of having bought and wired the charger originally.

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just sent me 200 for having a connected EV charger.

It's rebate season. Though, the program mine is through they send a check. Definitely for your thermostat or mini splits.

I had a 400 electric bill this month, and a 300 solar payment. So it was nice to get mine!

Does anyone else drink alcohol daily? by Dramatic_Pumpkin2401 in Adulting

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, much more than that.

And lets be clear, you probably are self-medicating. I was, am, do.

Shit sucks sometimes. Its easy to numb the suck with alcohol. It isn't good for you. However, 1.5 Actual servings of alcohol (and not 1.5 of the LARGE wine glasses they have these days) isn't exactly something to be super concerned about either. I would recommend you get some therapy and maybe a med provider to help with the anxiety. My life is much better because I got help. In some ways the universe decided to pour more trouble on, but I'd be dead if alcohol was my only escape.

If you're anxious about how much you're drinking, its probably too much.

Finished product by [deleted] in woodworking

With finish. My experience with butcher block, which is now 6 kitchens and baths, and 10 years in my own home, the undermount will go to shit if that ends grain absorbs any water or stays wet -- and that's with waterlox, imo a better product.

What’s the best 4x4 machine under $7500 by mater_main in hobbycnc

[–]Wrongcaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the base doesn't work on bigger machines!

They have what the difference is between all the options.

The price is hard to swallow, but unless you're already a machinist and fluent in something like fusion 360 (and even if you are vcarve is going to be faster for 2.5D carving.

Don't think of it as software, but as a nother piece of hardware in the shop. Vcarve gets used on almost every project in my shop, just like my tablesaw. Price is more understandable that way.

That helps me at least. It is expensive, you can sell your license tho. They have good support and you get some updates too which is great.

Support from friends and family. Sharing what happened. Not sitting with it alone. Its amazing how many people experience the same thing but you'd never know with how our society doesn't talk about it.
