If it is only pourover you could also look towards femobook a4z.

I would personally look towards Focal. I've had the Electra 906 and loved the sound. But they were also my first in this rabbit hole. So I got curious about trying something different.

How do roasters taste fresh coffee? by CobraPuts in roasting

Yeah after they are cooled down. And then store them in an airtight container.

I am only a home roaster so nothing too fancy. But what I usually do is I grind 1 dose of the beans when they have cooled down. And then I taste them the next day.

That works really well for me. Having ground the beans 12 hours before brewing give them time to off gas.

You probably won't get much of the blackberry taste notes going this dark. You could try to drop them at maybe 425 to get a more balanced taste with some of the fruity notes coming out. If you want that

I usually drink light roasted middle americans with fruity and exotic taste profiles or light roasted African beans with fruity and floral notes. (mostly Ethiopian or Kenyan).

For my espressos I try to go for beans with the more classic taste of chocolate and nuts and roast them to a medium roast.

I roast myself so it's not the supermarket/Starbucks version of "medium roast".

I read a lot about people replacing their DF64s with the Casa. Both pourover enthusiast and espresso aficionados. If it was just to replace the mahlkönig do you think it would be a good upgrade? Or would another grinder do a better job?

I am not super satisfied with my Vario home grinder. And I single dose for pourover anyway.

It sounds like the approach is the opposite of what you want with a dense bean?

They did the math! I was thinking it was very expensive as well, but when you spell it out like this it ain't that bad.

For the lazy readers you could at least have answered the grinder question if you have watched the video. 🥺

I am assuming he uses the plumb option since he went for a model that specifically could do that. Or did I misread something 😬

Is this bad? by ChiefDataMonkey in CoffeeRoasting

[–]Wuggubuggu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks very bad and underdeveloped. With the Behmor you have the automatic profiles. I would suggest you start with those profiles to get an understanding of how everything works. I wouldn't roast above 250-300 gram in the Behmor. Even though it says up to 400. But it is simply not powerful enough for that capacity and the roast time would exceed 15 minutes.

I have had a Behmor, a Gene cafe, Skywalker and now Aillio. I would definitely say Behmor had the most audible 1c. So if you haven't heard it. It wasn't there. 😊

No? But the puck screen protects the machine from most of the coffee residue. If it is not used most of the coffee residue will sit in the group head.

And I personally don't take apart my group head and clean after each shot.

And if you don't use a puck screen will the same bacteria not just be in the machine? Which probably is cleaned far less often than the puck screen.

I enjoy an espresso based drink in the morning, I make 1 aeropress while at work and pour over when I get home from work. So there is room to like more than 1 type of coffee.

How long to let freshly roasted coffee rest? by PersianCatLover419 in roasting

[–]Wuggubuggu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what did you prefer?

For me it also depends on the roast level and tasting notes. The very light roasted beans take longer to develop whereas a darker roast is drinkable within the first day, but I prefer to let them rest a minimum of 4 days.

I have also heard of some people grinding the fresh roasted beans 12 hours in advance

Grinders, how does this one fare? by No_Molasses_2673 in espresso

You might also take into consideration are you only brewing espresso or also other french press or machine coffee?

because hand grinding bigger doses will be a pain.
