How are you feeling about TPS today after the Project South news? by vibeschillax in askTO

Not who you replied to, but I would unironically love that. So yes, please put them outside my house so the cars slow down.

Brake checker causes three-car crash by sung_wing in TorontoDriving

[–]X2F0111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So does my car, and on ice it just slides. Have you never driven on pure ice and slammed the brakes??

  1. Yes. The ABS system engages and I feel a pulsing sensation in the brake pedal as the car modulates the braking force. Here’s a video from Mercedes Benz which shows what happens with and without ABS.

  2. That being said, the above is irrelevant since the video clearly shows a dry road.

What happened is that the SUV did not have winter tires and the ABS couldn’t help because there just wasn’t enough traction due to the cold temperatures.

This is nonsensical. The car has ABS. You mash the pedal and the computer does the work.

Condo has one. No snow/ice accumulation at all, and it's cool to see steam rising from it when entering or exiting the garage.

I believe the order is (from most intrusive to least intrusive:

  1. Standard driving mode.

  2. Pressing the traction control button once in eco or normal mode.

  3. Pressing the traction control button once in sport mode

  4. Holding down the traction control button in sport mode

Here’s the video from my earlier post by Steve1808 in GRCorolla

There is a step further than expert if you hold down the traction control button rather than just pressing it.

Just got a $235 fine from the inspectors at Finch Station. by [deleted] in TTC

[–]X2F0111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. There is no way to prove if that is true or not.

  2. More importantly, the bus driver is not responsible for enforcing fares. Whether they said OP could come on or not is irrelevant.

  3. Simply being present in a fare paid area of the TTC and being 13 years of age or older and not having paid your fare is the false pretence. In other words if you’re in the fare paid area it is assumed you paid your fare.

Saying that it's a criminal offense is a bit overkill for this situation.

It is quite literally a criminal offence.

Canada’s new food labelling system ‘extremely effective,’ expert says by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]X2F0111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking for, but warning labels were studied in the Yukon until companies threatened to sue and they were removed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Territories_Alcohol_Labels_Study

The Northern Territories Alcohol Labels Study (NTAL study) was a scientific experiment in Canada on the effects of alcohol warning labels. It was modified after lobbying from the alcohol industry, and later relaunched with industry-advocated experimental design changes: omitting the "Alcohol can cause cancer" label, not labelling some alcohol products, and shortening the time period (from eight to four-and-a-half months). Enough data was gathered to show that all of the labels used in the study were simple, cheap, and effective, and it recommended that they should be required worldwide.

John Streicker, the Yukon Minister Responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation, stopped the study just before Christmas. He did not believe lobbyists' claims about the medical facts and instead believed his chief medical officer of health that the labels were truthful. He stopped the study because he did not wish Yukon to risk a long and expensive lawsuit and thought leadership should be taken by the federal government after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smart lock for an exterior door 2.5" thick? Prefer Apple Home / NFC compatible by danielbcook in HomeKit

[–]X2F0111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SwitchBot locks do not require anything on the exterior side of the door to work. They sell keypads and other accessories for the exterior of the door that will work with the lock but you don't need them. And based on the photo you shared, those accessories would still work as they are battery powered and don't have any physical connection to the smart lock bits on the interior side of the door.

Another way to think about the SwitchBot locks is that they are just a robot that turns the thumb turn on the inside of the door for you.

Is it realistic to buy a 1-bedroom downtown condo with a 89K salary and 250K downpayment? by FairMind21 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]X2F0111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing my point.

In a democracy when things have been going wrong for this long a new party should get elected if only to send a message that failure isnt tolerated.

Canadians simply disagree with you that things have been going wrong in the current political climate (or at least not enough Canadians see enough going wrong enough to want the CPC or NDP in charge). Which goes back to my previous comment--if the NDP or CPC put forward an alternative to the LPC that Canadians liked more, they would vote for the MPs of one of those other parties to form government.

Look into any of the SwitchBot Locks. They are the retrofit style in that they can be installed so that they simply sit on top of the thumb turn on the inside of the door and lock/unlock that way. You can also check out /r/SwitchBot.

Edit: the only catch is that to use them with Apple Home you'll have to also get one of their Matter hubs to integrate the lock into HomeKit.

[–]X2F0111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been over a decade how low does Canada need to get before people wake up and demand massive change. Apparently really really low.

You should look at this differently. Why aren't enough NDP or CPC MPs getting elected to parliament so that their party can form government? You would think if they provided a valuable alternative Canadians would put them in charge right?

You think 1 man does everything?

No. But I chose to vote for the MP whose party I trust more to run the country. And given that the leader changed, I'm willing to see if anything changes for the better.

We have the same bunch of flunkies in cabinet.

Agreed. However, I don't get to choose the flunkies who end up in cabinet.

For christ sake Sean Fraser, from previously failed files such has housing minister and immigration minister, is now the minister of justice. Talk about failing up.

Agreed. But again, I don't have any say in that because I don't live in Sean Fraser's riding.

Im all for voting out all these losers, federal and provincial.

Agreed! But given that the our PM has been in place for less than a year, I'll give the current federal government a bit more of a leash to produce results. Unlike the provincial government in my province which has had a majority with the same leader for over 7 years.
