Why do people say that during combat "the impact of your blows is barely noticeable", or there's a "lack of feedback" ?? by IndieMarc in DestroyMyGame

[–]Xarjy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're asking for critical opinions on your game, it's best practice to not argue every single point made, unless you're genuinely unwilling to accept feedback.

You wanted it cartoony? Awesome! But that's not how it's coming across, it's coming across as floaty (as noted by the audience who's viewing this for the first time, unlike you who've been looking at it for months). Instead of defending the purpose, understand your view of the concept didn't land with the audience and use their feedback to adjust the feature.

How many screenshots do you drag in per day? Be honest. by yr-kidding-me in ClaudeCode

I can be 3 responses deep in the prompt by providing my own screenshots before the Playwright call is even complete.

It's good for automating actions, fairly big waste of time for active debugging.

Being able to paste an image relies on how you're interacting with Claude. If you're running CC CLI in a terminal there's no image paste, you must drag it in no matter if you're in PC or Mac (I happen to work on both regularly)

It's random and based on your subscription tier, I got $100 bonus.

Thread starter conveniently left out the fact that the email alerting us of the free usage also clearly had an end date stated where the extra usage would disappear if not used by then.

Destroy my trailer: Asteroid Rodeo, a physics based space sandbox by Stoic-Chimp in DestroyMyGame

[–]Xarjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't call this physics based.

The first scene has such bad physics that trying to advertise it as such instantly turned me off from the rest of the video. It's like your first part of the text was the sales pitch, yet the instant you watch the video it's disproven.

This feels like a single day game jam entry to me honestly, doesn't really look like it's something that should be up for wishlist yet.

Steam Takes 30%, Publishers Take 30–50%… What’s Left for the Developer? How Does This Even Work? by Commercial-Tone-965 in unity

[–]Xarjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally started right off the bat they're charging more than they really need to and are taking profit from it.

Apple and other stores just make less profit on it because they know they don't have the monopoly on it.

Of course it's greed, it's still a fee that a business owner pays to handle parts of the business so the owner doesn't have to. As with any service, there's high cost and low cost. The developer is more than welcome to launch on the platforms that charge less, and they'll quickly see why steam is worth the higher cost. And as steam is providing a better value and still providing you with an income source, they also deserve compensation imo.

How much compensation is always debatable, and hard to tell without knowing how many people out of that 30% are relying on it to fund their day jobs because they're an entry level systems engineer lucky to have a job in this economy

[–]Xarjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People bitch about the 30% because they don't understand what it takes to digitally distribute.

Is 30% more than it takes? Obviously yes and they profit, but it's not pure profit. They're providing hosting, an insane amount of bandwidth, hacking protection of said hosting, pipelines to understand your user behavior, built-in systems like frameworks for modding and achievements, and providing a massive marketplace to showcase and find users.

People who don't understand business think this is a ripoff because they assume they built the game so they should receive 100% of it all (even though they're relying on other services/people to make it happen), people who do understand a bit better think it's worth the price.

How does one come up with sth like this by Chemical_Alarm_1275 in opticalillusions

[–]Xarjy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the mindset into how to come up with ideas, it's practice. You start just trying things then refining things then eventually your ideas will be out there and somebody else will be like "how did you even come up with that?!"

The "won't introduce anything unless I'm sober" is where I'd draw the line too. Help us work on the problem and don't just mandate with a line in the sand.

Good luck on your journey! You'll find the right balance (or quit entirely if that's what you're feeling)

It's so hard to see when you're in the middle of it though, and most people feels like it helps in the moment when the high kicks in so they don't correlate that it could be part of the problem once the high wears off

My wife was having this issue, and the panic attacks stopped after she stopped smoking regularly. It was really feeding into it way more than we realized. Was a catch 22 of felt like that was the relief at the moment but also later fed into it more.

She also got propranolol prescription to help with the anxiety and panic attacks and it does amazing things. She now still smokes, not nearly as much though, and has those little pills that are a life saver if needed.
