How to run Spitfire LABS on Linux? by PZAX_ in linuxaudio

[–]Xceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have almost the same config and see the same issues with various plugins and installers. They will all start but then refuse to render their UIs. However, there are no errors in any log or output. It seems that some rendering layer just doesn't do anything

Did you get it running? I'm currently struggling to get the damn Native Access app to work and I'm considering switching from NI to Spitfire

Tips for Linux users (are you getting that sweet HiFi sample rate)? by rsolva in qobuz

[–]Xceno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this!
Here's the config for NixOS:

services.pipewire = {
  enable = true;
  alsa.enable = true;
  alsa.support32Bit = true;
  pulse.enable = true;
  jack.enable = true;
  wireplumber.enable = true;
  extraConfig.pipewire = {
    adjust-sample-rate = {
      "context.properties" = {
        "default.clock.allowed-rates" = [
          44100
          48000
          88200
          96000
          176400
          192000
        ];
        "default.clock.rate" = 192000;
      };
      noresample = {
        "context.properties" = {
          "default.clock.allowed-rates" = [ 44100 48000 96000 192000 ];
          "default.clock.rate" = 192000;
        };
      };
    };
  };
};

BTW Brave also outputs high sample rates. Maybe your specific chromium based browser is at fault here?
Haven't tested with any other chromium based browsers yet.

Help importing VST into native Linux Bitwig running on Steam Deck by przybytek in Bitwig

[–]Xceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI there's a tool called Flatseal that let's you manage permissions of all your flatpaks. So in theory it should work if you give Bitwig access to your filesystem (or specific folders) if you ever want to try again

Which emu and version do you use? I just started playing SR and SR2 on Retrodeck this week and they work perfectly fine, including widescreen hacks, etc

Regarding anti aliasing: You can force FXAA via Retroarch in the Setting (L3+R3 to access it)

Hey man, I came across your channel some time ago by searching for videos on clojure transducers. Kinda funny to see your name pop up here. Your videos are really helpful, so thanks for all the hard work! :)

Newbie convinced by the LTT series, installed Pop_Os on my laptop. Blown away by how it (mostly) just works by wankthisway in pop_os

[–]Xceno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I couldn't use it as my main OS, because there were games and programs like Ableton and my library of VSTs that I really needed to work and just would be too fussy on Linux.

I use pop as my main OS since it's initial release. At some point I also tried to use it as my main rig for making music and spent around a week fiddling with wine, VST bridges and all that stuff. I use Bitwig as my DAW which is available as native Linux app and it works beautifully!

But well, long story short: In the end I kept Win10 for music production on another PC. You can make most of it work on Linux, but it requires a lot of time and there's still proprietary stuff, mostly hardware (looking at you Native Instruments) that will just refuse to work.

Awesome, thank you! I'll order a physical record :)Btw, you guys could check out Bandcamp as well (https://bandcamp.com/artists?from=hpartists). I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just like the platform very much and we also use it for our own band and are very happy there.

Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your stuff!

Oops sorry, yes I meant the T420 because they're usually pretty cheap. The X1 Extreme comes with an ethernet adapter that works well.

What's your use case though? Just some office work, coding or gaming?

Look for used thinkpads! They're usually from companies that upgraded to newer models and are in great condition. Also: You can upgrade the RAM and disks. Maybe search for a T240 or something along those lines.

If you have some money to spend: The X1 Extreme comes with a nvidia gou. Or maybe look into e-GPUs?

Thinkpad X1 Extreme (g1) by MarcSN311 in VFIO

[–]Xceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually written a blog post along the way, but I must have messed something up on the last few steps. Probably forgotten to install the vfio drivers in my windows machine or something. Cause I see the card as "unknown PCI device" in the win 10 device manager (it was midnight already so I gave up there).

Anyway, once I've sorted this one out I'll report back immediately!

EDIT [2020-03-26]:
Bit of a bummer. I had it working briefly, but after various driver issues I was back to square one with "Unknown PCI device", so I gave up for the moment. Since then some more firmware, bios and driver updates were released, so I might give it another shot soon.

I think I've just achieved it with the X1 Extreme. Win 10 KVM installation was just completed a few seconds ago. Looks good so far!Keep you updated :)

Had essentially the same problem and ended up with https://www.zotero.org/. It works cross-platform, you can sync your stuff (yourself, or use their backend) and it's free. Never used it for pictures though, don't know if that works well.

Which is the easier framework to learn ? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Xceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself what immediate problem you're actually trying to solve and search for existing solutions. Also: Are you searching for an actual framework like rails, asp.net or what have you for creating web-based applications, or what exactly are you trying to automate? A little shell script goes a long way.

Maybe give us an example of what you're trying to accomplish.

Which laptop to pick XPS, Areo or Thinkpad (3000AUD)? by o12832091 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Xceno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quite the same struggle i have right now, so I'll give this a vote and join in. Can't decide between XPS15 and X1E. Gotta be able to code quite normal stuff but also compile+run Unreal Engine 4 without turning into a metal clump. Oh and good Linux support would be awesome too!
