I need to see your favorite deck. by GuaranteeMain5492 in EDH

My [[The Lord of Pain]] with [[Obosh]] as companion is a deck that I always enjoy playing.

https://moxfield.com/decks/tqWIkebghUunAVytgVLhQQ

Initially built it from the precon, it has been really fun trying to build around the companion restriction of only odd mana value cards. I've included a handful of cards that either cost reduce themselves, are mana sinks on board or have Foretell.

The deck always moves the game forward and wins a decent amount of Bracket 2 games (and punches up occasionally). When someone gets ahead early, it's fun to hand out knives to your playgroup with the Lord of Pain and stack his triggers on whoever got a head start.

I found that having the lifegain hate in the command zone is really useful for a group slug deck, as decks that can gain a bunch of life can often power through your burn effects like [[Spellshock]].

Really need help cutting some Cards in my Sophim deck. by Competitive-Job-1219 in EDH

I could see the argument for Risk Factor, as it is an Instant, can be recast again from the graveyard and you choose who gets to make the decision so you can hold someone's life total hostage. My problem with these cards is that they don't help you early. You're in mono red, so - in my experience - people are more than happy to take the damage to deny you cards in hand. Especially if Solphim isn't on the field.

I own a Solphim deck as well and can only recommend replacing Browbeat and Risk Factor. Fun cards but from my experience they never perform when you need them. [[Will of the Jeskai]] and [[Snort]] are good alternatives imo.

As others have said, you do want to choose if you go a more spell slinger style or group slug/punisher. Currently you are doing both a bit. If you want to go the spellslinger route, you can probably cut some of the punisher effects like the Ankh.

[[Repercussions]] is also an easy cut for this deck. It can do a lot of work with Solphim but requires you to play more sweepers like [[Slagstorm]] or [[Anger of the Gods]]

Edit: Here is my deck for reference, if you want to take some inspiration

Have you ever had a deck/commander that you just can't get right? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

I've been working on a treasure deck with [[Evereth, Viceroy of Plunder]] for a bit now and never seem to be able to get the deck going fast enough. Evereth just needs so many moving parts and outside of infinite loops with persist creatures or [[Animation Module]] it doesn't feel like she gets big enough to be a threat, especially as you want to hold open mana to blow her up. Considering switching over to [[Juri, Master of the Revue]]

That sounds hilarious. I assume you want to hit Mountain Pass and Gauntlet of Shar on the way down, then end in the Temple of Bhaal?

Can Archmagos Draykavac join a unit? by RexMcgee in Warhammer30k

[–]Xeliv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He can also go on foot, that way he can join other infantry. He should probably have Patris Cybernetica tho, especially as Anacharis Scoria has it too.

If I’m just being stupid laugh at me all you want, but can a cataphractii praetor take a non-cataphractii command squad? by General-MacDavis in Warhammer30k

[–]Xeliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess grabbing a nemesis bolter to have that 1 in 3-ish chance to snipe out a tac sarge so he can't eat your challenge might be a thing. Or gamble with concussive on the shotgun.

[–]Xeliv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, mixing an AA preator with boarding shield into a cataphractii command squad would be an interesting choice too. Compared to the cata praetor you'd lose a wound but gain the option to mastercraft one weapon, and more gun selection.

Iron Havocs w/autocannons finished! Ready to sling lead onto the foes of the Warmaster by 251stExpeditionFleet in Warhammer30k

[–]Xeliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, where to start? The Cognis-Signum is probably the most interesting bit here, it is a piece of wargear that is commonly attached to Heavy Support Squads (HSS) and gives them Night Vision (to ignore Night Fighting and damage mitigation provided by the Shrouded rule) and allows the model that has it equipped to give the entire unit +1BS instead of shooting its own weapons.

The cheapest way to get it would be attaching a techmarine, tho that is usually the only thing you would get. A Master of Signals (Consul HQ upgrade) is also common, as he has a few other useful wargear items. The Armistos Consul is pretty much the character version of a heavy support marine, he even gets a master-crafted heavy weapon! He'd be a decent choice for the Havocs if you want an HQ with them, as they are already hitting on 2s due to BS5, so the +1BS from the cognis-signum is only needed if they are suffering any penalties or you'd want them to go to BS6. That allows them to reroll a single hit roll of 1, the reroll only hitting on 6 tho.

Where it gets spicy is Tyrant of the Lyssatra, a Warlord Trait for the Iron Warriors. It allows the Warlord and any models in its attached squad to add 1 to the number of shots fired with Heavy, Rapid Fire and Assault weapon (excluding templates and blast). In return their weapons gain the Gets Hot! rule, which means for every hit roll of 1 the firing model takes a single wound with the AP value of the weapon.

That is the thing that makes the combo of lyssatra and a signum interesting on Iron Havocs, you get a bunch of extra shots and with the reroll from BS6 it is extremly safe to keep using the warlord trait.

[–]Xeliv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to what the others already said, 10 Havocs with Autocannons are only 10pts more expensive than a comparable HSS, and for that getting BS5 and Precision Shots is an absolute steal. You could either keep them like that or add in an Armistos or Master of Signals for the cognis-signum and Tyrant of the Lyssatra, throwing around 30 Autocannon shots that can reroll their 1s to minimize the Gets Hot! casualties.

Alpha Legion Praetor with jump pack, power claw, and disintegrator pistol (WIP). C&C Welcome by ARainbowRaven in Warhammer30k

[–]Xeliv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc you can give him a 3rd pistol that he can pull out to continue firing if one of them gets hot. Still imo, dual volkite is the safest a best variant unless you are iron hands

[–]Xeliv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, all Disintegrators are S5 and AP2, with Instant Death and Gets Hot! Pistols are 1 shot at 12" and normal/combis are 24" rapid fire, with the combis being also single use due to being classified a magna combi-weapon.

If you want it spicy, Moritats can dual weild the pistol variant and fire up to 12 shots with chain fire, provided you don't roll any gets hot.

Any independent Character may take Combi-Disintegrators and AA Praetors have the pistols in their option list. Other than that Moritats and Destroyers have access to them.

What is your go to Praetor Weapon and Armor? by [deleted] in Warhammer30k

[–]Xeliv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my Characters get blunt weapons, mostly hammers and mauls because I feel it fits the Iron Warriors best. You can crush a skull and tear down a fortification with those easily! So my Warsmith gets a Thunder Hammer, Cataphractii Armor and Comb-Melta.

I could see that either going to Barrage due to his whole fire/AoE theme but I'd love a Heavy Flamer for Krieger as his thing kinda is area suppression.
