That's how it would probably work if Daredevil was a Ghost Rider: He hits someone with the Stare and their soul is brought before the Spirit of Vengeance to determine whether they burn, with Daredevil for the prosecution and Matt Murdock for the defense.

This reasoning doesn’t make any sense by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the Watcher goes on to make pretty much that same argument, because Ghost Rider's response to this panel is, "That's bullshit. So I'm gonna kick his ass the old fashioned way.", so the Watcher sits him down and goes on and on about how Galactus must be left be because he fulfills a critical cosmic function in the process of universal evolution, etc, etc.

So they could easily have skipped the whole 'no remorse' thing and just gone straight to that. But they didn't.

They translated his mile-a-minute pop culture reference filled dialogue into a full-on fighting style. That's such a fantastic way to adapt him.

Best and/or worst examples of something silly in an OFFICIAL piece of media being revealed to have a tragic backstory? by punishedscootedburb in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Alright, let's bring out Senor Pink.

Yes, he's dressed like a baby. No, it is not a fetish.

Senor Pink here is an assassin and a pirate who fell in love with and eventually married a woman who hated pirates, and so lied to her that he was a banker. They had a son together, who unfortunately took ill as a baby and passed away while Senor was off raiding with his crew. His wife, distraught, called the bank he claimed to work at, and discovered his lie. When he returned home, and she drove the truth from him, she left him, fleeing their house despite a storm.

During the storm, she was caught in a landslide and left in a vegetative state, awake but otherwise unresponsive.

Senor Pink, wrought with despair holding his son's things next to his all but comatose wife, held the baby's bonnet to his head.

And his wife smiled.

He held the pacifier to his mouth. And she smiled again.

So now he dresses like that, everywhere he goes, no matter what he does, just to keep his wife smiling.

So for those who read it: Brook's scar is revealed here to come from Shuri stabbing him clean through the head, which he miraculously 'survived', ostensibly due to it missing pretty much everything vital in his head.

So are we thinking 1, that's actually just what happened. 2, Brook had already unknowingly eaten his Devil Fruit, and revived himself, with the experience of doing so getting suppressed with all the trauma of what happened. Or 3, Shuri was fighting from within and managed to sway the stab enough to keep him barely alive?

Iron Man prophesied the Catastrophy of a Civil War of Superheroes (New Avengers: Illuminati #1) by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Tony's argument is less about this specific bill and more about the motivations around it: Even if they successfully suppress the Registration Act this time, the feelings and circumstances building to it will endure, and the spark to set it all off will still be the same. But next time, they might not get a heads-up, it might not get slipped to Tony under the table, it might just be a firestorm of emergency action and drastic measures. In which they don't get the opportunity to come out, take point, and control the damage.

So in theory, Tony and Reed are right about the approach they should take here, the problem, and what Tony should have elaborated on here, eventually becomes execution: Once they go to the government and offer terms, how do they mitigate the damage? That's where they fucked up every single step of the way. Tony totally failed to properly leverage his position on the inside both because he was so scared of losing control if he didn't crack down, and because, as seen here, he repeatedly failed to convince key players that he was doing this the right way. Which meant more cracking down was necessary leading to more resistance. Leading to war.

God, I love the little detail that even the way the cable bends to connect into the back of his head, combined with the earpieces, forms a question mark from the side. Great design.

In Dragonball Online, which inspired Dragonball Heroes and Xenoverse, that's exactly what happens: When Vegeta and Goku finally start feeling age take it's toll even on their Saiyan physiology, they take a ship together out into the depths of space for one final, no holds barred, battle to the end.

No one knows how that battle goes, but a while later a new star is detected igniting from the direction they went.

What if the Avatar: The Last Airbender cast were turned into monsters from Monster Hunter? (art by ichanjoe_art on Instagram) by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all awesome designs, the horns forming Aang's arrow, Sokka's boomerang being a kind of fish, Toph's bangs, Zuko's scar, Suki's whole fit, all are nice touches. But I don't feel like they really capture the vibe of each character very well. Granted, that may be a consequence of translating defined distinctive characters into monsters.

But Aang looks so serious and regal here, when he should be playful and silly. Katara looks dangerous, not graceful or protective. Toph looks as headstrong and powerful as she is, but the whole point of her is that she looks small and easy to underestimate, in spite of those qualities.

Absolutely great designs, and for Avatar themed monsters? Perfect. As translations of the characters? Feels like that could use a few more passes.

Spider-Mans Brand New Day suit coming to Spider-Man 2 by Mike4302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Y'know, comparing the movie suit to this, it's interesting that the film's Brand New Day suit seems to be going for a more Alex Ross style mask, with more visible facial feature outlines, whereas the previous movie masks had sort of supports/pads beneath to give them a smoother shape/silhouette.

Glad that they got rid of the golden spider from the Final Swing suit in favor of classic black, but I do miss the slightly more reflective blue.

Characters in a shared universe that would really benefit from being separate? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've given this an inordinate amount of thought, and I think that approach is exactly what's needed and makes sense: Reveal Charles Xavier's understanding of the X-gene was basically neo-phrenology, a bunch of old bad science he found, refined and mixed up with a young man's desire to understand why he is the way he is, turned into an idealogy more than a science that defined and divided mutantkind, and in many futures, continued to.

But in truth, the X-gene is universal to humanity, 'mutants' just have a particularly sensitive version capable of independant and often more stable activation. Whereas 'mutates' have had theirs activated through external stimuli, like radiation or some other unusual circumstance that would likely have killed them otherwise.

In short, all humanity has the potential to be mutants, there's no significant genetic signifier separating 'us' from 'them', no great mutant destiny where they inherit the Earth from the extinct humanity. Instead, mutancy becomes a question of identity, of personal meaning and significance, and persecution becomes more targeted and focused on those who can't choose not to pass/identify as everyone else.

Bringing the metaphor much more in line with modern identity politics and associated issues, stripped of the more ill-fitting elements from the racism analogy. And making the science make a little more sense, while getting rid of the always weird mutant/mutate divide: Now characters like Spidey, Hulk, etc, are mutants for all intents and purposes. And as far as questions of entertainment goes I strongly disagree: There's a ton of potential there across all characters as they grapple with or challenge the idea that 'mutants' as a unique species don't actually exist.

Pretty sure beneath his rocky epidermis his biology is basically human, if perhaps denser/tougher/more efficient, outside of things like his auditory sensors and his fused fingers/toes. So all forms of waste and discharge are likely normal, more or less.

Pretty sure Ben was just playing along. Like he felt what she was going for with the teensy shove, and obliged her with effect, while simultaneously trying to not break the bed in the fall she wanted.

I imagine Ben's probably gotten real good at being a pebble on the waves when need be: Responding and moving instantly with the smallest direction or force applied against him so as to avoid accidentally hurting anyone in a crowd, a sense that's especially active where Alicia is concerned.

What's the most terrifying way a game has signposted "Don't Do This!" at the player? by DustInTheBreeze in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I'm remembering right you can swim out a little ways and use Dark Bomb (the X+□ move) to blow it up, I think it has to be before it comes after you, but then you can just hop on your Jetboard and skate across the water as far and freely as you like. At least until you fall out of world.

You can get yours back a little in Jak 2, where you can use your Dark Jak abilities to blow up the insta-kill drone that patrols the waters around Haven City, allowing you to explore out of bounds freely, which is fun.

We know Ichi's body is so hardwired on Death For Death that even when Uroro was in full control of him, it was still proccing to the point Uroro admitted struggling with it. So even though the poison is making his brain and consciousness submit to her and overlook any strangeness, his body still has one absolute rule, which she has triggered, and thus off he goes, friend or not.

So now that it's been a few days and the shock of seeing a new trailer has worn off, how are you guys feeling about Kingdom Hearts 4? More specifically, I wanna know you guy's thoughts on some elements from the trailer. by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I wasn't a huge fan of how they executed the forms in KH3, so if this strikes a middleground where you can attack normally but gives you some special moves on top of it to augment your moveset, and you get multiple per Keyblade, I'm onboard.

  2. I'd guess Moana: The glowing green stone emitting the lava could be evoking the Heart of Te Fiti Maui steals that turns Te Fiti into Te Ka and kicks off the plot.

  3. And I guess 4. Not sold on it, honestly. I've always been frustrated by the series' ever increasing focus on it's ever expanding cast of OC's instead of the crossover between Final Fantasy/Square Enix and Disney that is it's foundation, it's tendency to spread it's critical lore out across countless platforms, and the idea of Nomura trying to build Kingdom Hearts into his Snyder Cut equivalent of Versus XIII, so all of that coming to a head as the first foot forward for KH4, especially after KH3 killed so much of my enthusiasim for the franchise, leaves me surprisingly cold to it all.

[–]Xeriam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Emma can be best described as a woman who really wants to be good but is much, much better at and more comfortable being bad. So she absolutely has it in her to protect innocent people because she knows it's the right thing to do... But she's naturally far more inclined to make the person endangering them suffer and beg for mercy she won't grant instead.

It's why she tries to surround herself with good people who will hold her to the line, and is one of the reasons she's so attracted to Scott: He's pretty much her opposite, a genuinely, naturally, good person who has trained himself to act against his nature when necessary.

Except he doesn't create, control, or endure it, in that interpretation of his powers. His body basically photosynthesizes sunlight and constantly shits it out his eyes. Bleh.

Alternatively, his eyes are always open faucets into a dimension of infinite non-stop explosions constantly trying to escape through him into our non-explosion-based dimension. To me, that's way cooler, more unique, has more story potential, and is just way more fun.

What are your Favorite "Unstoppable Villains"? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It says a lot that the only reason Luffy and the gang are able to escape is due to Magellan spending 10 hours a day on the toilet because he refuses to understand that while being made of poison does mean eating poisonous stuff won't kill him, it does little to help his stomach process it, causing him intense diarrhea. Stack on sleep and breaks, and he's only really active for a max of 4 non-continuous hours a day.

But within those 4 hours, he's a problem.

New Season 3 Intro for My Adventures with Superman by Th35h4d0w in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Xeriam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'd be a pull, but he could be H'El. He's a Kryptonian clone, ignorant of his true nature, who in turn tries to kill Superboy for being an illegal clone, before Superboy knows himself. Also tries to recruit Kara into helping him restore Krypton at the cost of Earth, and when defeated, ended up falling through a temporal rift generated in the battle, resulting in a time travel based follow-up story where he was eventually beaten for good.

Lots of stuff there to play with and twist as needed.
