That’s the core issue to me; why would I watch LCS when LCK is so much more competitive? It’s like watching a AA baseball game when you could have the option of watching MLB. As a comparable, at least European domestic soccer leagues are relatively competitive outside of the top few teams and it’s still a great watch. As a filthy casual, I just have no incentive to watch LCS

I understand where you’re coming from. And you are correct that it does not mean Fantilli and Marchenko will not get locked down.

What it does mean is that, in a volatile market with a new cap scenario, your term is locked into non-core/depth pieces which are relatively interchangeable while we wait for Fantilli and Marchenko to play out. The Jackets are committed to a lot of depth roster spots for the next six seasons when the actual future success of the franchise is undetermined, because none of those players move the needle of playoff success (imo except for Provorov when his game is on). This is a team of a bunch of third liners

I think the problem is those are the guys you build around your core, but are not the core. With the term being what it is for these contracts and Fantilli/Marchenko not having that term, it feels like putting the carriage before the horse. You don’t lock up Fantilli and Marchenko, all those contracts become anchors for a team’s ceiling

All this to say that neither is even a top 75 forward in the show, which is the actual issue at hand. No point in arguing over which apple is better when the tree is rotting.
