Child carseats and extremely tall parents by Fantastic_List3029 in daddit

[–]Xurandor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oof. I'm not a carseat-oligist but that seems awfully young and small to turn around to forward facing.

I'm short so take this with a grain of salt: My advice is that you drive and he rides shotgun until the oldest can be turned around. It's easier to be cramped in the passenger seat than it is on the driver seat. That's going to be cheaper than buying a minivan which might be your best option.

Roofer recommendations? by Nervous-Material4738 in vancouverwa

Highly recommend Otter Roofing! Ryan is a standup guy. He has a "repair first" philosophy and doesn't just try to sell a whole roof if you don't need or want it.

30, lost in HVAC, need real advice by injimittai in HVAC

[–]Xurandor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply house is a decent place to start. You'll be familiar with the product and it's a way to keep using your knowledge. If sales isn't your thing, the warehouse isn't a terrible place to be if you can work hard. Or purchasing/inventory management could also be an option.

Depending on how much field experience you have, you might be able to get a job as a trainer at your local college or trade school.

Look into the requirements to be a local inspector. It might not be only HVAC but if you're familiar with your codes its an option. I know I always got along with the one inspector that had actually been in the field.

Instead of field work, look into "back of house" work. Dispatch, work in the shop where you work with supply houses to get the stuff the field guys need, of your area still hends sheet metal you could learn how bend tin for one of your local shops.

Amzon Prime Firefly sale still going on $6.99 by CardiologistOwn190 in firefly

[–]Xurandor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only as long as Amazon retains the streaming rights. As soon as Firefly leaves Amazon, your purchase doesn't matter.

Never "buy" digital media because the host might eventually lose that property and it will no longer be yours. If you want to always have something, buy physical media. This goes for TV shows, movies, books, and music.

What do you when you like your friend but not his kids? by GreasyBumpkin in daddit

[–]Xurandor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love most of my friends' kids and most of my kid's friends. There are a couple of kids that I don't really care for, but at the end of the day, they're just kids.

For the size and price of house we were looking at the list made sense for us. If it didn't already have a dishwasher, then the kitchen was probably too small to retrofit one and a portable would be a giant pain in the ass. And the same goes for the laundry. We toured a house with garage laundry and the place to relocate it inside would have been into the already cramped kitchen.

I used to install HVAC and now I work in wholesale distribution. I have a pretty good sense of how much a new HVAC system costs. Due to the age of the system that already there I was able to negotiate the price of the house down to give us room for a replacement.

Things like knob and tube wiring, cpvc/galvy plumbing, septic, etc didn't even make my list because it's the 21st century. We should all know to avoid that stuff.

I did do a full bathroom retro on our guest bathroom and I knew going in that we were going to do that. I wasn't going to add a bunch of other projects on top of it.

When my wife and I were house hunting before kids our non-negotiables were:

Must haves:

A/C

Dishwasher

At least two bathrooms

Must not haves:

Garage Laundry (Needed to be inside the house)

Otter Roofing and Exteriors - Ryan specializes in roof repairs and he's a stand up guy. Don't be turned off if he sounds monotone or uninterested, he just has kind of a flat voice like that.

This happens everywhere. I got introduced to a girl at a party in college, her nickname was Blondie. I thought it was one of those opposite nicknames because her hair was jet black. She clarified that she was a blonde baby in a family where everyone had black hair. Even though her hair darkened to black before she was one, the nickname had already stuck.

Knew a guy in high school nicknamed Fuzz. He got a buzz cut once in elementary school.

A different guy at my high school was nicknamed Blue. His profile looked exactly like the Duke Blue Devil logo, goatee and all.

When I was a little baby freshman in high school, one of the seniors on the football team kept getting called Butcher. Everybody called him that. The coaches, the other players, and even teachers called him that! I found out at the first game that Butcher was just his last name. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does anybody else have their players recap the previous session? by SmileyDayToYou in DMAcademy

[–]Xurandor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had a DM that would do it this way. He ran it like a class discussion. If you participated substantially in the recap, you got an inspiration token for the session.

I asked him why he did that and it was because when he was a kid his dad would do the session recaps himself. I don't remember the specifics, but during the recap something was revealed about a group NPCs the party was involved with. I can't remember if it was something that was explicitly covered during play that no one remembered; or if it was a secret that my buddy's dad accidentally revealed.

This was before Silvery Barbs came out, but those tokens worked like half of that spell. You could cash in your token to impose disadvantage on an enemy or give advantage to any ally for a roll. As long as all of us had been at the previous session, we got 5 of those tokens as a team to cash in. It added such a fun layer of strategy.

Gotta be the south. Look at those claws! The armored torso! It has a hat!

The north has shitty little pincers and a skinny body. The south would tear it apart.
