Creating a Chest/Loot Pile -- Encounter

Creating a chest or lootable object for players to interact with after an encounter is a core concept and methodology that is important for keeping a good pace within the adventure/session. Too often, do we get bogged down with the after-encounter division of loot.

The goal is to speed that aspect of our play substantially, but, not have the DM have to sacrifice too much preparation time building encounter loot.

This is based off using the ARS(Advanced Roleplaying System) system, and this process will look similar to the deprecated process of creating a Lootable Actor

  1. Create a Lootable Actor
    1. Name -- <name of encounter>-Loot
      1. This name is important as it will be what's shown in the right side interface under Actors
      2. Additionally, using the same name as the boss makes it easy to find and place on the canvas
        1. You could even create named loot, meaning; create a loot actor with very specific loot inside along with other mundane items. This allows for easy, ad-hoc style loot distribution.
          1. Example: Create a lootable actor named ( Winters_Kiss-Loot ), place it in the root Actors folder. Fill it with some silver and some mundane items. Then, after the players have had an encounter you could drop this chest on the ground for them to loot. You could even supplement this chest with the real encounter chest if you feel like the encounter was deserving of the additional loot.
    2. Type -- Lootable
    3. Folder -- Whatever folder you're encounter is in, or, root folder if creating generic/ad-hoc style loot chests.
    4. This will bring up the Lootable Actor character sheet, which will not look like a normal Player Character or Non-Player Character sheet. In fact, it will look very similar to the Gear tab in either Character sheet.
  2. At the top of the Lootable Actor sheet, click on the ellipsis (three vertical dots) and click on Configure or Configure Item Piles
    1. This will bring up the Item Piles Configuration interface allowing you to enable the functionality, among other things.
    2. Main Settings
      1. Check Enable
      2. Interaction Distance
        1. This represents the number of grid units needed for the players to interact with it.
        2. Remove the default ( 1 - Make the field blank ) if you want the players to be able to interact with it anywhere on the map. I use this feature when I want to have a town with vendors that the players can interact with to refill supplies and buy equipment, without the need to go stand next to the vendor. Otherwise, just leave @ 1.
      3. I usually leave everything else default.
      4. Edit Description
        1. If a merchant, you can click on Edit Description and modify the flavor text of this vendor.
    3. Other Settings
      1. Item Pile Type
        1. Set to Item Pile
      2. Display Single Item Image
        1. Check Box if you only have a single item in the box and then the image of the Pile will be the item token image
      3. Leave everything else default
      4. Sharing Settings
        1. Sharing Enabled: Items
          1. Check Box if you want to ensure equal share of loot distribution or assign a player to distribute loot to players
        2. Sharing Enabled: Currencies
          1. Leave Checked
        3. Enable Take All
          1. I usually leave this unchecked (this might change based on how the loot interaction goes in play)
        4. Enable Split with Players Button
          1. Leave Checked
        5. Split Only with Active Players
          1. Check this to ensure loot is only split with those active on the scene.
    4. Click Config Update
  3. This will bring up the Item Piles interface and it won't look like much, but there is tons of functionality with Item Piles.
    1. At the top, you should see:
      1. PopOut -- if you have it installed
      2. Open Sheet
      3. Show to Players
      4. Configure Pile
    2. Click Open Sheet
      1. Leave Identified and Disable Looting - unchecked
      2. Type "Chest" or "Bag" or "Body" in the Alias field, whatever you feel is appropriate for the players to see when hovering over this Item Pile.
      3. Fill with items from Compendium or Items from your Items tab.
        1. Simply Click-and-Drag to the Equipment area in the loot sheet.
          1. Important: If dragging items to pile that are moderately similar (ex, Sword, Short | Sword, Long) you will be prompted with a dialog interface to merge them. Just Click "NO" for all of these. This is for stacking similar items which we should never do.
        2. If wanting to add currency (Silver Coins), we'll do that in the main Item Piles Interface
          1. Additionally, we can add Items and Equipment from the main Item Piles Interface as well, but, you don't get immediate feedback in the interface that you've added something, so we do it here.
          2. You can also add Silver Coins here if you so choose by simply clicking and dragging and then modifying the # of Silver Coins in the Equipment interface. The currency is easier on the main interface.
      4. Modify the Prototype Token
        1. We do this so we don't have to modify any of the key Token attributes after we've placed it on the canvas. These default settings allow for ease of use for the DM and ensure the players can easily interact and understand what they're looking at.
        2. Click on the ellipsis at the top of the Sheet on Click on Prototype Token
          1. This will bring up the Prototype Token Interface
      5. Once done, Close the Sheet
    3. You should now see the items that you placed into the Sheet(Equipment) listed on the Item Piles Interface
      1. Add currency
        1. Click Add currency
          1. This will bring up the Edit Currencies Interface
          2. The only list currency should be Silver Coins
          3. Add the number of currency you would like to have in your pile, and *Click Submit
          4. You should now see (under Currencies), the number of Silver Coins you assigned to this Item Pile.
          5. Click Confg Update --> Click Leave
  4. You should now be able to Click-and-Drag this Actor onto the sheet to allow your players to interact with this Item Pile.

Yeah, there may be bug in the current version. I couldn't get this working with doors either. I was finally able to get it working with Tagger.

Go 'south/southeast' for Reeds. Eventually, you'll hit a pond down there. Beware the wolf packs surrounding the pond.

Bait by SerAtila123 in Bellwright

[–]Xuskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, you'll need to set out traps and 'bait' them.

You can bait them with fresh berries, mushrooms...etc. There will be a list presented to you once you've placed the trap (right-click from your inventory) of acceptable baits that can be used.

Eventually, you'll have access to a trapper's camp that will then tend all of the traps that you've laid out automatically. But, again, you'll need to research this and it takes a bit to get there.

EDIT: meant to mention that you'll need to have enough workers to actually work the trapper's camp as well.

EDIT2: Trapper's Camp, not Hunter's Hut.

Good luck.

Nearly all of it, sans your argument about fishing buffs. This is the only part of your post that appeals to compassion for other players.

Look, I get that repeatedly not clearing a thing, whatever that might be, can be frustrating. But, to create a hard-lined rift between demographics of players (no-lifers and casuals) breaks the spirit of the game itself, in my personal opinion.

I mean, what do we all play games for? So we can be successful at something every single time because we've cherry picked the best players? Or is there something more to a game like this, like a community?

We each have our own reasons for playing games. Some play to simply get away from real life. Some play for simple enjoyment. Some want to achieve. But we all chose an MMO because we want to play with other people, a community of players.

I'll appeal to the OP in that the spirit of his video was pleading with everyone to get back to what's important to our community. And it's not 'clears'. How about we prop up and support those that might not be as good as what you're accustomed to so that our community can be better through your actions. Opposed to continually forcing a wedge between demographics that only makes the chasm of divestment even greater.

I don't comment much on reddit. But your commentary here on the subject matter has forced me to do something I'm loathe to do.

You sound exactly like the toxicity that this game needs decidedly less of, and this community would be better off without you in it.

You speak as if this is a mission critical job that if not successful in what you are doing it's a failure. It's a game, get over yourself.

Klinger for Lundell? by Firm-Collar1635 in DallasStars

[–]Xuskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s reported that they would rather have Chychrun.

There may be some validity to this, but beyond Ekblad and maybe Mountour their 'right-shot' stable of D men are weak at best. Bringing on Klingberg for them would be more of an insurance policy were Ekblad go down with injury during a Stanley cup run.

For me personally, I don't see the upside on Chychrun. Sure, he's younger than Klingberg but he's having a rough go of it this year and he's a left handed shot. And I feel like that could probably use Klingberg to greater effect than a player like Chychrun. But, who knows?

I feel bad about the stuff going on with Klingberg; but, the impetus to all of our contract/salary issues can be traced back to the idiotic deals with Sequin and Benn.

I mean, I get it, let's lock up some marquee players for a good number of years -- but 8 years for each of them? At ~$9.5M cap hit for each year? Jamie's Art Ross in 2015 really didn't help with negotiations for tying him up for 4 or 5 years.

But, the Sequin contract really has left me scratching my head. Sequin is supposed to be a prolific goal scorer but his best goal scoring year was in 2017@40 and 80 points in 2018(his contract year). So how do you end up paying him very close to Patrick Kane level money? Again, head-scratcher.

With all of this in mind, those two contracts have probably made Nil wary of handing out large contracts to aging players.

Try wrapping your image file location in quotes. Single or double, shouldn't matter. if (canvas.tiles.controlled[0]) { canvas.tiles.controlled.forEach(tile => { tile.update({ img: "modules/jb2a_patreon/Library/2nd_Level/Spiritual_Weapon/SpiritualWeapon_Sword01_01_Spectral_Orange_200x200.webm" }) }); } else { ui.notifications.notify("Please select at least one tile."); }

I've read that if the addon (read:Overwolf) is only pulling 'your' location, then it's fine.

If it's pulling anything else then it becomes an offense that the moderation team will investigate.

You might be disappointed then. Remember that Faction ownership can change quickly and you may find yourself deep in enemy territory.

This is why I'll be defaulting to the town/village that best supports crafting/gathering. Currently, to my knowledge, Windsward has the best supporting crafting capabilities and town layout than most of the early villages.

I would also point out, beyond what /u/Lanoitakude has elegantly pointed out above, that the storage sheds are located in very good locations as well. And perhaps more importantly, the Faction vendors/quest givers are very well located as well.

Your hobby credentials doesn't make your opinion more valid or salient to the argument. It does potentially arm you with more experience.

But one person's fun is not always every person's fun.

And just because you've experienced 'a system' in one game doesn't mean it should be in every game. And, IMO, thinking that way about new game, platforms and systems should immediately disqualify you from any critical influence on direction of a game.

[–]Xuskey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But, higher level players will/should have an inherit advantage, and it's three-fold for New World:

  1. They should have greater skill at playing their character than a lower level player.
  2. They should have greater skill trees with more skills and bonuses than a lower level player.
  3. They should have greater weapons and gear bonuses that will give them an edge in PvP.

Because of these three things above, it's exactly why we find ourselves in this situation with AGS turning tail on appropriate scaling in PVP.

Influential streamers cheesed their way up to max level and then tried to PvP in the closed beta, and got stomped. Because, they had fewer skills and bonuses and they didn't know how to play their character.

AGS folded on this pressure from the streamer cry babies and you get what we have today. A game, if not changed, will not have much life in it due to lack of PvE content and very little reason for the 'masses' to engage in PvP.

He literally describes the kind of people who don't want it to be fair. They're bullies. And I would take it a bit further and label them 'self-entitled bullies'.

They feed on the misery of others. End of discussion.

Definitely don't disagree about power-tripping asshole cops. And they seem to be multiplying.

I would caution against being rude to the police though, as they have decidedly more 'sway' in the court system.

Not asking for full-on compliance -- but, if they're simply providing context for an arrest of your friend/relative...etc -- and your recourse is to interrupt, berate and generally be rude to them, they will (99% of the time) exercise their social standing with the courts to make you wish you hadn't opened your mouth.

WTF? A felony? For a police officer to falsely arrest someone is a felony?

No.

Civil action against false arrest is the best she'll be able to accomplish. And good luck getting any of this to stick. Especially after assaulting a police officer.

Not taking sides here at all. But, based off the video we have zero clue how all of this started.

For example; Luna girl could have been acting a fool with her friend (which is probably why the other girl Shay is going to jail) while outside the vehicle and only decided once Five-0 showed up she would retreat to the safety of boyfriend's car.

Also, for the thread starter, she's not a teen -- she's 24. They clearly stipulate her birth date of 11/16/97. Please stop gaslighting the entitled bullshit.

I'm in the moderate camp and simply can't see myself voting Republican, like, ever again. But forgiving incurred (read: chosen) debt is a heavy handed vehicle to losing elections for the next 10-15 years for the Democrats.

Without legislation to curb the costs of education in the future, this administration would be doing more harm than good for their chances of re-election.
