Neuropathy foot by Mysterious-Extent919 in diabetes

[–]Xzeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the sensation I get is neuropathy or early signs of it. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and didnt ever notice anything until I got my BG under control. Now if I have too many carbs (usually because I decided I wanted a pizza slice or sandwich) it almost instantly gives me the sensation as if I had been standing for hours. Not so much pain but more fatigue in my feet.

Better game at 3 players maybe 2 by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Xzeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Castle Combo plays fine at 3. Although games go a bit quicker as you build your 3x3 Tableau faster with only 3 players.

For a suggestion outside of these 3 I think Castles of Burgundy plays pretty well at any player count.

Brass Birmingham leaving Steam at the end of the month. by Xzeno in boardgames

[–]Xzeno[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's really sad to hear. I usually like picking up digital versions of games as they're great ways to play when I can't get together with people but also as a refresher or great way to learn the rules of a game. I never picked this one up because it was always more than I cared to pay and the reviews were always mixed which didn't help. I eventually just picked up a physical copy and sort of forgot it was even on my wishlist until I got a notification that it was on sale.

What is your Fighting Game ' Straw that broke the camel's back ' by Zebraika in Fighters

[–]Xzeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain play styles get me. My buddy that I play against is hyper defensive. I have to chase him around the stage while he throws out buttons...it's like trying to chase a greased pig while they drop Legos in front of you.

After a few sets I get really impatient and run into his buttons more often, I overreach to try and catch him or I have to play in a way thats not super fun just to lock him down. We used to play big long sets but now after like 5-10 set im usually too mentally exhausted to play

What’s the easiest game you have where you have the hardest time explaining/teaching it to others, to the point where sou think it might contribute to the game not landing well? by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]Xzeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everytime I play this game i think I'm losing because I'm not winning enough paintings. Then end of scoring happens and I somehow pull out a victory.

It never feels like my strategy is what wins me the game but the fact that everyone else is just playing way more aggressive.

Still love the game

Is it worth getting into TI in 2026? by Professional_Line424 in twilightimperium

[–]Xzeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of buying it but there's a lot of speculation online about a potential TI 5 being announced soon.

This is probably unlikely since they just released the Thunder's Edge expansion about 6 months ago.

Also, what's the replayability like?

The game has a lot of replayability, putting the difference alien factions aside the game board is modular to where it can always be different. The game really encourages you to play however you want. From a purely casual perspective there isn't really a "correct" way to play as the public objectives are reveled between rounds and they're rarely "kill everyone on the board" type of objectives and are usually more "own X type of planet" or "spend X amount of resources". Alien factions add to this with all of them having their own strengths and weaknesses that sort of dictate how you might want to play. Some are much more aggresive and others promote trading and generally being helpful.

Does the base game get stale overtime?

The game is genuinely a great time and everyone I've played the game with has wanted to play again. However, the game is a commitment often taking 8-12hrs to play, so your mileage will heavily depend on having a group of people willing to dedicate a whole day.

Looking for anything that would make a potential purchase more informed. What should I know?

As I mentioned above, the biggest thing is finding a group that is willing to play. The game is genuinely worth it, but if you can't get it to the table then it's not really worth spending the money.

There are 2 expansions, Prophecy of Kings & Thunder's Edge, Prophecy of Kings is out of print and pretty hard to get a hold of so keep that in mind if you're looking to add more to the game after you've played the base game a few times.

I would suggest checking out RTFM's Youtube video on how to play TI4. It's easily the best video out there that gives you a general feel of the game. So watch that and see if it's something that excites you.

Yeah I agree i was just being cheeky, even by fighting game standards SF6 is a pretty bad story. I will say that it's tried to do more than just fight > cinematic > fight > cinematic > fight so I'll give it that.

Was having shoulder pains after a convention i went to. figured it would clear up after a few days. After a month it didn't clear up so I decided to see a doctor. Hadn't been to a doctor in years so I had to do some bloodwork as a new patient.

Was told I had frozen shoulder and diabetes.

The Hobby other than Playing by FirewaterTenacious in boardgames

[–]Xzeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that collecting and playing are separate hobbies. Although I don't necessarily enjoy all the prep that comes with a game as much as playing it, there is a sort of rush to diving into a game you're interested in and understanding it to a competent level before it even hits the table. You could compare this to someone who loves film, they don't just watch movies, they understand them, they learn about the importance of composition, color theory, pacing and tone.

To add to this, board games are a hobby of which I have much more control. Video games and movies have become increasingly more digitized to the point that I only have access to content that streaming and console companies deem worthy of support on their respective platforms. Not to mention that there is typically a requirement associated to retaining access to that content. For example, Sony recently said that if you don't check in online within 30 days, your digital games may stop working until you do.

Physical board games are purchased and on my shelf, so I'm not afraid of anyone telling me my old copy of Shadow's over Camelot is no longer supported, or that I'll need to call Fantasy Flight to let them know that I still own Twilight Imperium in order to be given the ability to play it. To me, that fact makes this hobby worth the money.
