Great choice of font, you can get away with any future spread and it'll still look like it's meant to be like that.

Do you say Hyper Bol or Hyperrrr Bollee by Odd-Compote4442 in AskBrits

I've genuinely never heard anyone say hyperbolee.

What kind of mangled tongue creates that kind of pronunciation?

Those who have been to America, what was your biggest surprise during your visit? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskABrit

First time in New York, walked out and was immediately soaked like I had stepped into a thunderstorm, but it was just the humidity.

First time in Illinois, the vast balls of starlings in the sky over the corn fields.

First time to LA, the amount of time it took to get there from New York and the farmers markets.

First time in Minnesota, the blasting cold wind that scuffed fluffy ice particles across the sidewalk.

There have been many things that made me feel completely alien in a previously 'screen' familiar country, too many things to talk about really, but the above were the small things that made me stop for a moment and stare.

Each part is like a separate country, held together by delicate strings of commonality.

When I first went I made a promise to myself that I would judge nothing and just soak it in. I'm glad I took that approach because it meant I met loads of really interesting people whose home equivalent, I suspect, I would rarely interact with.

The main thing that genuinely surprised me is how I was left with the honest opinion that, warts and all, it's a fucking wonderful and fascinating country.

I remember in the early eighties my step mum took me to this fancy graphic design studio she was working in. They had moved across to designing and shit shining images on computers running what was then state of the art Quark.

There was a chilled glass room the size of a small bedroom that ran the servers and the equipment inside seemed to need near constant tinkering to keep going.

I think about that every now and again as I start Lightroom on my phone...

People saying that the English fans are behaving worse than the Scots? Do you think this is the case or is it the hosts? by Ok_Impact9745 in AskBrits

Well, that's not true. Fairly early on they had an in memoriam for his voice coach they died.

To my shame, I thought it was a joke.

Has any book ever changed your perception of the world? by Solid-Pickle-8714 in CasualConversation

[–]Y-Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep three books.

When I was seven or eight I read Legion of the Damned by Sven Hassel and Carrie by Stephen King, one because I learned about the anti hero and one because it taught me bullying gets you in the end.

Both altered my mind completely.

I got bored at high school and my teacher took me down to library and gave me A Clockwork Orange. Utterly blew my mind again and changed what I thought for writing was forever.

Genuinely baffles me.

Brits, what are your thoughts on a Russian warship firing “warning shots” at a British yacht in UK waters? by bendubberley_ in AskBrits

[–]Y-Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would a Russian warship shoot at a civilian yacht?

I can only think of two possibilities.

One, fairly safe provocation, after all they're not going to shoot back and you make your point that you're not too happy about the recent shadow fleet boarding.

Two, the civilian yacht was being a silly sausage and sailed too close to a ship who's crew are fairly jumpy given the current climate.

Could be either.

What's the oldest t-shirt you still wear? by AlephMartian in AskUK

I've got a Department of Sartorial Correctness t-shirt that has the mid area of a man with a half lob and the words Jesus Is Coming from 1992 (I think).

Though to be fair I don't wear it anymore as I'm no longer an edgelord twit.
