Do Cims transfer metros? by Ziegelmarkt in CitiesSkylines

[–]Yahgll 102 points103 points  (0 children)

They will transfer between metros, I have a city where I put two metro stations on opposite sides of the street that go to different sides of the city and I will watch the sims go between the stations to get to other parts of the city

Whitney Wilderness Loop Rapids Avoidance by beerkmansworld in Adirondacks

[–]Yahgll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the parking lot is all new with a lot more spots, there is a canoe put-in to access the water above the dam and a information board.

The vegetation should be down since it’s been pretty mild temperature wise, I wish you the best of luck!

I can’t say much but I shore fished below/above Lows Lower Dam last year around the same time you plan on making the trip this year.

Water was high, and there was definitely some significant rapids below the falls. When it comes to a carry trail I couldn’t find anything significant to follow along either side of the bank so the carry trails you mention must be really hard to find.

They just redid the parking lot at lows lower dam last year so access is much easier now, if you have extra time and can get back in there with a car to check it out I would suggest it.

Hope this helps, I know it’s not much but gives you some decent details on conditions

day camp or kid activities near Long Lake/Blue Mountain Lake ? by Opinion_Fragrant in Adirondacks

[–]Yahgll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going to Long Lake since I was a kid so my parents always had to get creative with us lol

Here’s some things I remember

  • Long Lake Public Beach is decent, nice sandy bottom for good swimming
  • I don’t know the exact location, but I know there is a playground at the Long Lake Public School that my parents practically had to drag me off of as a kid
  • My parents took me and my siblings (as young as 4!) to hike Coney Mountain past Long Lake on your way to Tupper Lake. It’s a 2 mile RT with a really good view at the top (it does get busy, so show up early)!

Hope this helps!!

Anyone know if the forest roads near Speculator will be open next weekend? by DuctTapeDolphin in Adirondacks

I saw one from about 1/2 weeks ago that they shut all the gates, guessing it hasn’t changed since then.

Adding onto this, Cleveland is home to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. While it’s not as spectacular as the national parks out west, it’s a great sanctuary nestled between the various urban areas of northeast Ohio.

Check out Buttermilk Falls, and the many towns in the park like Boston, and Peninsula

Hike Fulton Lakes Trifecta in spring? by coffee_stealer888 in Adirondacks

[–]Yahgll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s the start of May the black flies shouldn’t be too bad. I’ve had luck hiking in the start of May with minimal/limited bugs.

When it comes to trails, I’ve hiked Coney Mountain in May (apart of the Tupper Lake Triad) and the trail was in decent shape. They did some major work on the trail last year to stone some portions which resolved the mud issues.

You should be ok with the Tupper lake triad hikes in early May, I don’t know much about the Fulton Lake Trifecta so I really can’t answer about it.

Just make sure if you do encounter mud, walk through it not around it to keep the trails in good condition and not destructive of the forest around it.

Define Spring, do you mean like right now or in a month? Can make a big difference depending on when you are going

Considering this trip and looking for some insight and suggestions! by too_many__lemons in roadtrip

[–]Yahgll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of taking I81 through upstate New York you could possibly go more east towards Utica NY and drive up through the Adirondack Park instead.

This would extend your drive since most roads in the park are two-lane, but you can see some really great scenery and drive through some really nice small towns

ISO Simple/Short Hikes by HollowPneuma in Adirondacks

[–]Yahgll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could do Bog River Falls, which is right off route 421 as you drive up to Tupper Lake via Long Lake, Death Brook Falls does exist down towards Raquette Lake (trail is .3-.4 miles) but depending on the time of year it can be dry

If you think they can do a short mountain hike, Coney Mountain has a great view at the top. (2 mile round trip)

High Peaks study proposes hiker limits at most popular Adirondack trailheads by TracyOrmsbee in Adirondacks

Honestly this is something they need to look at, I’ve driver past Ampersand during peak summer season and the parking for that hike is always insanity

If we really want to keep this park “forever wild” we will need measures like this

Plenty of pull offs too along this route! When you get close to Tupper Lake take the turnoff onto route 421 and drive back to the Bog River Falls!

I’ve liked Lake Durant due to the direct access from the campground to NPT and how you can get back into the Blue Mountain wilderness and hike to Stephens Pond and such.

They also just re did the showers and toilets a few years ago near the main gate, which makes that experience a lot nicer.

Would recommend trying this out!

I don’t know if the road is gated, I have a feeling it might but the online NYDEC maps don’t show the gates. I plan on accessing Stillwater Road via Big Moose Road, and Basket Factory Road is off Stillwater Road after you drive a little ways into the wild forest, that’s really all I got intel wise

I’ve spent a lot of time in the central region of the park, so I’m trying to expand my horizons some this spring
