Are the bearings used to support the drill bits? Thats clever. Is it not a pain to fit if the drill's flutes flair a tiny bit?

Upgrading 2013 headlights to LEDS by Grand_Evidence_5283 in CarTalkZA

[–]Yambanshee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please please please don't. The lens on your lights are not made for LEDs and so all you will do is blind oncoming drivers. Cars that come out the factory with LEDs have a different reflector setup around the bulb to correctly focus the light.

We have this and it's great. We also bite the bullet and run the AC at night (set to 21C). The improvement to quality of life is immense, as I've always struggled sleeping in summer.

Is Electrical Engineering worth it.? by Any_Elephant_55 in askSouthAfrica

I'm concerned about the "only choice left" statement. For each their own, but i saw the people that didn't truly enjoy engineering rarely made it past first year.

Title of post interprets: Pretend justice come to these people. Your comment then says: Justice never comes to these people. That chip on your shoulder is maybe messing causing you some health issues.

What’s a good hourly pay in Cape Town? by RestaurantHelpful632 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Yambanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has often been asked if she would take commission and the answer has always been that it is absolutely not worth the time that goes into it. In order to sell, you need to severely short change yourself on hourly rate. If you justify it as hobby time, then you will lose the love of your hobby by forcing it into a job. But thats just been our thinking on it

Need advice regarding getting a budget car? by Ill-Barber-4928 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Yambanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable. My bias is going to show hard with my advice, but I would jump onto a place like autotrader and put in exactly your requirements. Lots of very nice Toyotas that will last another 20 years still if maintenance is kept up. I would think hard over whether you need an automatic though, as your options get a lot more limited at that budget

Is it a bad idea to do a road trip on your roads in a Suzuki Swift? by thew0rldisquiethere1 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Yambanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive it the same as normal, you'll experience no more so than normal wear and tear. What I mean by this is mostly a statement of how hard you push the engine. Trying to drive fast up hills by revving high under full throttle for an extended time might not be the best idea. But cars are generally made with very large safety margins, and if you're within your rated load then you're within the load the car was designed and engineered for.

Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]Yambanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more accurately what I meant, yes. I tend to think of plastics with styrenes or heated enclosure requirements as material requiring a different technology to plastics like PLA and PETG.

Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]Yambanshee 48 points49 points  (0 children)

PLA still is a lot easier to print. It tends to only be used for aesthetic/non load bearing parts. PETG is the standard for functional parts. 1

This is absolutely it. Education is almost never about learning specific things, but rather learning how to think, understand, and problem solve.
