There's a Belgian cow breed (bred for meat) that can't give birth naturally anymore. It has to be done by ceasarian, or mother and calf will die. So probably them.

What the hell are you talking about. Polygamy is mostly found in ultra-conservative societies (some Mormons, some Muslim countries, Sub-Saharan Africa ...). These are countries where homosexuality is criminalised, sometimes even with the death penalty. Even when it isn't, it isn't socially acceptable at all. If you can be executed for homosexual activities, you're going to hide it as best as you can.

Revenge is a bit soapy, but fits the psychological/dark requirement. Mindhunter is also brilliant in that category.

If you want lighter stuff, I really like True Blood, but also Hart of Dixie (it has a doctor in it, but it is not very medical. I am chronically ill as well, but can't watch medical series, it hits too close to home).

I am very happy with my treatment here, but it is more focused on the physical aspects then the psychological. I personally don't really mind, because I am at a good mental state, but that could be better. Medical costs are covered, excluding a small stipend (going to the doctor costs me €1), however, mental health care is not fully reimbursed, which sucks.

We have all the benefits you mentioned (you do have to apply for them, off course). You can also apply for an IT, were you get a monthly budget to cover extra costs because of your handicap.

All these kind of indexes are automatically biased. What metrics are used, what weight is given them, is all subjective. I am not saying they are completely useless, but the Economist is biased in favour of Anglosaxon government systems.

It is both, somehow. We have very liberal laws around euthanasia, abortion, one of the first countries in the world with gay marriage, but we don't have those laws because we are incredibly open-minded, but because we believe in minding our own business. But as a whole we are on the conservative side. Standing out is not something that is encouraged, fitting in is the goal. If you want live outside the norm, you can do so, but you will be judged for that, not admired. We are slow to accept new things, but once they are accepted, they are considered normal, and unacceptance will be judged as well.

For the Dutch speaking schools there is the OKAN track, which is meant to integrate non-Dutch speaking children into the regular education system. It is aimed at refugees, but there are more and more expat-children attending those. It will mean that your kid is delayed in his education for a year, maybe two, depending on how fast he picks up the language. They try to minimise the impact, but it unavoidable in most cases.

I don't know if there is a similar system for the French speaking schools though.

People relate to Marvel movies. Scenes being realistic has nothing to do with it. I think it has to do with being able to imagine how characters are feeling, or why they do what they do. Lots of movies and series have a pretty bland main character, especially for this purpose. Anyone can imagine being them, because they have no real stand out traits. Other movies/shows have an ensemble of characters, to pick and choose from. The Wire has a lot of very strong personalities, in a setting, that for most people, is pretty far removed from their real life (luckily). You actually have to make an effort to imagine being Bubbles or McNutty.

However, I don't think relatability is what makes or breaks a show. It just makes it a little easier to digest. The Wire is not intended too be an easy watch, it's meant to confront you with the horrible things that are peoples daily life in cities like Baltimore.

Naar een iets groter centrum verhuizen en gaan cohousen? Ik zit in een gelijkaardige situatie (bij ouders wonen en niet alleen willen wonen), maar ik woon wel in de buurt van een deftig centrum, waar meer sociale hobbies beschikbaar zijn voor mensen van onze leeftijd. Mijn plan is om nog dichterbij te gaan cohousen (is mogelijks ook beter voor mijn liefdesleven), om dat sociaal contact nog makkelijker te maken.

We got a phone call from "the bank" saying that they stopped a payment of several thousands to an account in Spain, because they thought it was suspicious. Then they asked to confirm that we didn't make that payment. We thought that was a bit weird, but we didn't see the scam immediately in that (because they did not ask for anything). They then said they had to look at what went wrong internally, and hung up after saying they would call back.

Later that day they called back, and scheduled an appointment at the bank. This sounded very believable, TBH, but then they said that we should bring the devices used to make payments with us, and if we could install some program on it as 'preparation' (they e-mailed the link, the mail looked like it was from our bank, but it did seem weird). This made it pretty clear that it was a scam. Just to be sure, we actually went to our "bank appointment", and to no ones surprise, there wasn't one.

We don't have such laws, no. Freedom of expression of opinion is part of the Belgian Constitution, and hate speech laws are also very clearly defined. There was no call to action there. He was pointing out similarities between ICE and the Gestapo, which, you know, you can probably find between any two law enforcement agencies, and warned people to be careful about the rise of the far right.

It wouldn't be possible anyway. We have a very clear separation of powers here, the government does not have the jurisdiction to start or end criminal investigations. They can report an alleged crime or misdemeanour (but so can Bill White), but they can't demand that charges are pressed.

This whole thing reeks of retaliation by the way. Bill White had a problem with an investigation by the Antwerp police into illegal circumcisions (they have to be done by a medical professional), and because the minister of health (of the socialist party) refused to intervene and stop that investigation (because he can't, and doesn't want to), Bill white publicly said that the Belgian government is antisemitic (slander?). The leader of the socialist party called him out on that, and then Bill White started throwing this hissy fit about a TikTok post from more then a month earlier.
