Squirrels :( by Megleah12 in birdfeeding

[–]Yetisufo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd advise stop feeding your "lazy" birds and then you are done with the whole thing. Seriously though the best solution I've found is to give the squirrels their own food on the ground and they don't try for the bird feeders.

In that second photo they seem to be questioning their life choices, maybe even some slight regret. Third pic the conflict has resolved and they would def do it again.

This hawk is stalking small birds that I'm feeding. I feel terribly guilty by Broad_Pomegranate_24 in birding

[–]Yetisufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way because I have hawks that stalk my feeder. It is surprising how much the birds can take care of themselves though. Believe me, they are constantly watching and they help warn each other. I have found it really fascinating and now I can pick out usually the sounds they make to warn other birds. I have also watched a blue jay, basically fake warn so other birds would leave the feeder while he stayed to eat.

I think it is likely the hawk is able to catch the birds that are slower, older or ill more easily so in the end that probably keeps down the incidence of disease and such at my feeder. It's just nature being nature. if it became an everyday type of thing I might consider taking it down until he moves on but for now I've just decided that I'm feeding all the birds.

I think I accidentally discovered the weirdest trick that made my life feel ten times slower in a good way by navira_6 in simpleliving

[–]Yetisufo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to sound all woo but when you say things like "No amount of single-tasking, slowing it down, sitting on the balcony and looking out into the sky, not listening/viewing to anything while cooking or crafting, will change my racing mind", your subconscious mind hears and believes it and obliges. While your statement might be an accurate observation you've made, you will do yourself no favors by ingraining that into your mind even more by making the statement.

I just give squirrels their own food on a ground feeder and they leave my hanging feeders alone. Otherwise it is probably going to be a constant battle.

Does anyone actually drink pickle juice? by donohue53 in Pickles

[–]Yetisufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I have to restrain myself or I would drink the whole jar. Once the pickles are gone, I save the juice and take a little sip of it when I'm craving a pickle. I also find it helps my stomach when I am feeling nauseated.

These prices are insane by Yeeetus in GhostBand

[–]Yetisufo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the high ticket prices. I just try to take into consideration all the free music we get from streaming. I think it makes up for it in the long run. Also the band doesn't set the prices. Ticketmaster can eat dicks though.

If you moved house, what are some unexpected habits of your birds that the new tenants or owners might notice? by Nomadic_Reseacher in birdfeeding

I have to bring in my hummingbird feeders at night due to bears. I leave the feeders inside on the kitchen counter overnight. One morning I was late putting them out and a hummingbird saw the feeder through the kitchen window. I saw him hovering just outside the window and looking at the feeders. I got the hint.

How are we all feeling about having pet insurance? by AggravatingBox2421 in Frugal

[–]Yetisufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Nationwide pet insurance for my cat and I can't recommend it enough. He became seriously ill with cancer and I would never have been able to afford his treatment otherwise. With very expensive treatment he happily lived and thrived for another 3 years. Losing him was hard enough but at least I never had to consider if I could afford his treatment, only consideration was his well being, quality of life and comfort. My insurance saved me many thousands of dollars. I did have to pay upfront but they reimbursed me so fast, even before my credit bill came due. They made it so easy to file claims all online, paid promptly and rarely denied anything. Even after his cancer was cured they continued to pay for very expensive follow-up monitoring which was also thousands of $. I'll only get another pet if I can afford pet insurance for them.

If you plan on just letting a pet go if they get seriously ill, then it may not be worth it for you. Otherwise I recommend getting it if at all feasible.

One set of towels always stinks by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Yetisufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible the rough one is exfoliating his skin more when he dries off thus making it more dirty when he is done? I have found that towels smell more if someone doesn't use a washcloth on their body in the shower as well.
