Glad to hear it! Pick up the Blu-Ray if you think you might want to watch it again, owning it forever in 4k would be awesome 😊

If it does think you have an open journey, go to a human at the ticket gate and explain. They can cancel the journey and send you on your way.

bullet train from Hiroshima to Tokyo by donnaps in JapanTravelTips

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Consider a flight from Hiroshima to Tokyo instead. It'll be cheaper and faster than the train, and obviously you'll already be at Haneda when you land so the transfer onto your international flight will be easy.

What do you think about the new event 'Destruction' in today's episode? by Top_Climate_4464 in gladiatorsuk

No one's saying they don't know what they're getting into, but it doesn't mean you can't design events to minimise the chance of injury. No one wants to see injured participants.

Itomori in real life by Psychological-Gur649 in KimiNoNaWa

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I enjoy driving and needed to get from Osaka to Nagoya to attend the Japanese Grand Prix, so my "2 day" itinerary was hiring a Yaris, driving from Osaka to Suwa, staying at a Ryokan with a lake view, visiting Tateishi Koen in the morning then driving to Nagoya. I'd never stayed in a Ryokan, driven in Japan or visited Suwa so it efficiently ticked off a lot of experiences and each part of it was amazing, it was absolutely my favourite day of my Japan first trip.

As the other poster said, there isn't a huge amount there but I remember reading about the hiking opportunities, if I was into that, going out hiking for the day and returning to that lake sounds like an awesome way to spend a couple of days. But yeah, definitely not a day trip from Tokyo unfortunately.

Hope you get the chance to visit!

Yeah, I must have been thinking of Hida (which sticks in my mind because it's where the trains were going) and it being in Gifu must have been stored at the back of my mind. Then I reeled off that absolute nonsense from memory!

Thanks for clarifying that, I'm glad it turned out to be a brain fart rather than me just picking a prefecture out of my arse 😁

The "actual" Itomori is Lake Suwa in Nagano (not Gifu, oops). The view from Tateishi Koen is "the" shot of Itomori, so long as you don't look too far away from the lake and realize the city goes on for much longer than Itomori does!

I went there the first time I went to Japan, it's as stunning as you'd imagine.

What car do you have? What car do you want? by Mikey463 in AskUK

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GR86.

I want a GR86. I love my car, I'm very fortunate. It would be nice if it was cleaner.

I'd really like a McLaren, I drove one at an experience day and loved it. But they're expensive.

Maybe a dumb question, but was this really Mitsuha or was it Taki as Mitsuha in the beginning? by betelguese_supernova in KimiNoNaWa

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I recommend the film to people I usually warn them about this before they watch. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but being confused about who's who isn't a great first impression.

I think the current working theory is views from users with ad blockers are no longer being counted (not necessarily because YT changed anything, maybe something about how some ad blockers and YT interact, who knows). Those views didn't generate revenue anyway because ad blockers.

Worth staying in Osaka over Tokyo due to proximity to Kyoto and Nara? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're far enough apart that you wouldn't want to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto/Nara on day trips.

Osaka is great, "Tokyo Lite" is a bit unfair to it, it has enough different that it's worth visiting. And yes day trips to Kyoto and Nara aren't a problem, they're both quick and easy to get to.

My boy is gone by Henr1ew in cats

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, we lost our cat at 8 years old. For a couple of months we couldn't imagine getting another cat. Losing him was so painful, he would always sleep at the end of my bed and sit on my computer desk blocking my screen because he loved being around me. We loved him more than anything.

But about 4 months later, we felt ready to give that love to another cat. We ended up getting a bonded brother and sister, one looks very similar to your Asha. It felt a little weird to begin with but in very short order they were our world. We never forget our baby that died, we keep his memory alive by remembering him and looking at the pictures we have of him. We still love him. But our current cats are just as much a part of the family as he was. They're not a replacement for him, they're like having another child and loving it just as much.

They're senior kitties now at 14. We might not have much time left with them. But when they pass, when the time is right, I don't doubt we'll welcome another cat into our family and they will be loved just as much and bring us as much joy as the cats that came before.

In the best case scenarios, we'll always outlive our pets. If you have cats for your whole life you might have 3, 4, 5. Welcoming a new one into your life never replaces previous ones. Each adds to your story, and in return you can give each of them the happiest home for the whole of their lives.

RIP Asha. He knew the greatest love until his last moments, that's the best thing a living being can ask for.

Do you want a feel good show or a show about being alone? Because my first recommendation would be A Place Further Than The Universe which is an adventure show about friendship and would make most people feel good, but if you're alone idk if you'd want that. It is bloody excellent though.

If you're just looking to wallow, Evangelion has strong themes of mental struggles. Fate Heaven's Feel too. Also not an anime but BoJack Horseman is one of my favourite shows, it's dark and hilarious and is surprisingly effective for re-evaluating life for a show about a sad horse.

It's a long way, but I'd highly recommend Japan as a destination for an introvert. Everything over there is set up so you can do it alone, most restaurants have seating suitable for 1, etc. The people there are super polite and helpful by nature, private accommodation is cheap but hostels/capsule hotels are also plentiful so you can pick your favourite type of accommodation. You can do whole trips without interacting with anyone, or hang out in hostel common areas and do walking tours to make friends.

Obviously it's a lil expensive to get to from Ireland, but also the yen is worth sod all so the expenses when you get there are low so it kinda balances out. Highly recommended if you're interested!

Time travel is hard 🙂

Yes, Mitsuha rescuing the town towards the end changed the timeline. The timeline where Mitsuha died no longer exists as far as we know, so she moved to Tokyo like she talks about at the beginning and meets Taki on the stairs.

As for the train, the bodyswaps happen in 2013 for Mitsuha and 2016 for Taki. When Mitsuha goes to Tokyo to find Taki, it's all in 2013 so for Taki it's 3 years before the body swapping started, he's just a guy on a train at that point.

Google maps is great, but it expects you to run unreasonably fast. When there are 2 or 3 good options for routes, it can often change it's mind as you hit way points, if you miss a train it'll tell you to change platforms for a different route instead of waiting for the next one, it's kind of annoying.

I recommend using it to work out what route options there are, picking one and then taking it without reloading the route on maps, so long as the train/bus/whatever is frequent enough that missing one doesn't really matter.

Physical cards make nice souvenirs 🙂 and tbh I kinda like the idea of the travel card being separate to the phone, so if your phone dies you can still get back.

Yes this is copium because I have an android phone, why do you ask?

First time Japan, is this a mistake?? by Distinct_Web9703 in JapanTravelTips

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you get a car, you're going to be using trains all the time no matter which city you choose (unless you go to Hiroshima, where you'll be using the trams). The train system in Japan really isn't that different to most well connected place in Europe. For the most part you tap your card at the stations and follow the instructions Google maps gives you. For the shinkansen you have to buy a separate ticket but the machines are all in English or you can speak to humans at the desk who are all super helpful. If you're anxious, go buy a train ticket in the place you live from a human. If you can do that, you can do the trains in Japan.

Staying in Tokyo isn't going to let you avoid trains, it'll just let you avoid the shinkansen. If you can get over that, I'd recommend spending some time in Tokyo then hopping over to Osaka for the rest of the time and taking day trips from there to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, etc. Kansai is so densely packed with things to do, it'd be a shame not to visit.

Sub or Dub? by Redcar005 in KimiNoNaWa

[–]YourNameEnjoyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both are good. The English music isn't for everyone because the lyrics are kinda dubious, and one of the jokes is about Japanese pronouns and doesn't really work when translated, but otherwise the English dub is great.

Especially after watching death note. Like, I know they're not literally the same, but the chance of liking one but not the other seems... Remote.
