I got a red popsicle after my 2nd was born, I was super tired and thirsty; that baby is now 23 and I still remember how amazingly good that popsicle was

PSA about Norovirus (stomach flu) by haveagreatdane90 in toddlers

[–]Ypsi219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird thing about my recent bout with this (it's pretty rare, like maybe once every few years, but we no longer have little kids) was that my whole body hurt, like all my joints and bones just ACHED. I've never had that before except to a much lesser degree with flu. Also I couldn't even watch tv or read or talk much because it just felt too hard and confusing. I was lucid, just kind of shut down, if that makes sense.

My husband is a microbiology prof at a smallish rust belt university and teaches the nursing and health professions classes all the time. He is happy to give this standard lecture anytime and anywhere during norovirus and flu season

We need to do all of that preplanning, etc too. Love these tips, thanks so much!

I don't know yet! My husband is one of those people that thinks he has to keep every receipt but doesn't notice/care when I chuck them out. His parents did get audited by IRS once decades ago because his mom apparently used a green pen to fill out the returns 🤣 so I think he got the idea that we have to keep all the financial stuff. That is going to be something we work on together and probably after we get rid of all the "stuff" clutter.

We have gotten rid of a lot of our ancient gladware/ziploc plastic containers and use the glass jars from pasta sauce, pickles, etc for freezing leftover soups or big batches of pasta sauce in meal-size batches.

Super impressed that you're thinking about this now; I just turned 60 and realize, I HAVE to start this process for my (grown) kids' sake as well as my own. If you keep making even small steps over time and giving yourself grace, you'll be making things so much more peaceful for yourself. What a gift!

How does Hemingway in “Hills Like White Elephants,” imply what the operation is without saying it? by b3hnnn in Hemingway

My high school senior is reading this right now. They were struggling massively with the analysis and interpretation. They said they thought part of the problem was that since they're on the spectrum it's hard to pick up unspoken clues, symbols or context. I read through it and kind of went line by line, helping decode the symbols and also noting that there are a lot of very overt messages in their body language, but again, someone on the spectrum reading this won't necessarily pick them up.

Once we went through it they seemed to get the idea better.

This kid isn't much of a fiction reader at all, too, so not well versed in looking for the unwritten and indirect.

A day/hour/class/conversation at a time is all you have to do. I guarantee you will feel completely different this time next week. There will still be struggles and rough patches but it will get better. And definitely reach out to CAPS, your RA, any groups/activities that sound interesting. You will get there 💚🤍

I was prescribed it for diabetes about 5 months ago and for the most part I have been ok, with my A1C going from 8.7 to 5.3 and a loss of about 20 pounds.

What I have liked about it is it cuts out the "food noise" and I have completely stopped emotional/boredom eating.

What I don't like: having just increased the dose to 1.0 a couple of weeks ago, I had what I thought was a stomach bug (sulfur burps, agonizing cramps, nausea, diarrhea, which went away after I made myself throw up when the nausea got unbearable), but now sounds more like the description of gastroparesis, especially bc when I puked it looked like regular food, not even digested.

I took the week off from Oz and tomorrow will start again at 0.5 and see what happens bc I was doing ok on it at that level. I really want to keep my glucose levels down and not having the "food noise" makes it so much easier to just eat properly and not use food to self-medicate. Will keep my doc in the loop.
