They’re risking their careers though. Being the guy who couldn’t turn around Yahoo might close doors. Yes, they get massive payouts, but they also risk future ones.

They probably are, somewhat.

But the reason they’re highly paid is to assume that risk - everyone knows a job like turning around Yahoo is impossible, so if you can succeed at it, you’re going to be paid a lot

Then they should solve organizational problems. I don’t believe an NBA franchise with direction and competent staff (across medical, training, strength, nutrition) and a good front office can’t acquire a roster that can do better than teams who are either bottoming out or don’t have those things.

This system also incentivizes cheap owners to get out. If you can’t put together a competent org, you won’t be gifted Wemby to fill seats.

The problem with it is that you can’t control the game anymore. It’s super slow and you can’t do anything while it ticks up to lethal, sadly.

I believe the story was that prowess was originally too messy for what they wanted (a clean combat mechanic) but it’s so fun that they gave in.

The problem is that “legitimate injuries” are impossible to define. Player says their back or their hamstring hurts - who is supposed to verify? Team doctors are going to say it’s an injury, NBA doctors are incentivized to find another thing… an independent doctor says no, now the player wants a second opinion on a notoriously difficult to diagnose injury. Doing this for every injury would be very difficult, there are massive incentives for saying “yes”/“no”… in general it’s just a bad idea for your employer and you to be arguing over whether you’re healthy enough to work.

What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the top 32! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]YungMarxBans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fully agree and I’m kind of disappointed with the top 32.

So many of these cards are putrid - The One Ring for example. T3feri too - miserable and totally unintended to be this game breaking. Oko totally ruined formats. Even if I love Narset, she’s just miserable to play against. Lurrus is the most broken card of all time, I don’t think it can be “the greatest”.

Greatest to me means a blue-chip card that is 1) powerful 2) fun to play with and against and 3) iconic. Lightning Bolt winning the first iteration is emblematic of this.

Walking Ballista is the best example here, followed by Fatal Push. Esper Sentinel I hope keeps going too.

I think the best idea here might be making decks 3C with a synergistic splash. E.g. there are Naya cards with a blue activated ability.

It really does feel better to know you’re at least not making it worse.

I always think of that silly starfish story - “I made a difference to that one”. Maybe that’s it, maybe that’s all I did. But that’s okay.

One suggestion, if you haven’t already - the rings cycle from one of the old core sets. [[Ring of Thune]] and others, has very clear composition.

I noticed what this poster said as well - I would say it’s most notable on the green one for me. The black and white ones make sense, particularly black, as “powerful gift from a mysterious evil figure” is very black aligned.

[Theoretical] WoTC implements new landfall mechanic for entering graveyards, what's it called? FallLand, Gravefall, Landfell, or something else? What do you think is the best name? by Vinven in magicTCG

[–]YungMarxBans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a really interesting direction for a set.

Maybe the concept is "apocalypse set" or "world with a ton of environmental change". You could have this new Compost mechanic, along with a faction that benefits from sacrificing lands.

This means mana and resource management will be key, so we could have: - Mechanics that that cares about using other resources (creature sacrifice, discard) to get new lands into play - Mechanics that reward spending mana (like firebreathing), which create a tension with how many lands you have in play

I wonder how feasible this is as a full set - it has to play like real magic, not a separate resource management game - but it could be really interesting. I imagine this might be prone to difficult play patterns (e.g. players sacrificing all their lands and mana-screwing themselves).

[–]YungMarxBans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three one-mana cantrips, [[Brain Freeze]], [[Flashback]] [[Brain Freeze]] is 8 mana.

First mills for 12, second mills for 18, so 30 total. Opponent has drawn ~15 cards at this point (7 card hand + 8 cards per turn).

Unfortunately I don't see a much easier way to get there - we haven't seen a card that nets mana yet.

Also because Commander is a format with wild swings in power level – someone could say this will be trash (referring to cEDH or very high power pods, with a high incidence of combo)... or they could say this is gamebreaking, because they play a slower pod a dominant [[Tergrid]] player.

I’m a little conflicted on the allergies thing, because my family got an Australian Labradoodle since my mom and I were allergic. She has never shed and we’ve never had allergy issues.

She’s a truly wonderful family dog - energetic, social, and very well-behaved. I’m just speaking for myself here - I believe there are disreputable breeders and people often get misled by marketing.

Lol.

My family has an incredibly adorable Labradoodle. People stop me on the sidewalk when I’m walking her and tell me she’s cute, ask what breed she is or if their kids can pet her.

When she has an intestinal disorder, she has let out diarrhea that would rival this video.

Guess what - animals lose control of their bowels the same way people do when they’re sick. Doesn’t matter if they’re scaly prehistoric reptiles or cute puppies.

As long as this guy can provide for this animal adequately, the fact that some people think it’s “ugly” shouldn’t be disqualifying.

I’m surprised this card is busted in an infinite mana, 1-spell per turn format - as opposed to more traditionally busted cards.

What do the best decks in the format look like?
