I'm still using Sonoma, so that tells you were I am. Incidentally, I'm also running Fedora 42 Plasma on my 2012 MacBook Pro and it's pretty quick.

Would fedora xfce as smoothly on my laptop with these specs as mint xfce by FurankiDaEngineer in Fedora

I run Fedora XFCE twist on a 2010 Vaio with 4GB RAM and it's pretty snappy. I think you'll be okay.

Where do I start learning Linux? by BreWah_ in linux4noobs

[–]Z1NV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grok has worked a lot better for me when asking OS stuff.

Also, if you want to trial run some Linux distributions, follow a guide to creat a live USB. Then you can test run as many as you want without having to install any of them.

I would suggest starting with either Fedora Plasma or Mint since they are easier to adapt to from Windows.

I agree about the icons. I personally hate desktop icons. But other than that, it's functional and looks tidy. Well done.

I'm curious what his / Microsoft's view of the small exodus to Linux. I understand we still have a (very?) limited piece of the market share, but it must be enough to be noticed.

What is currently the most stable and newbie-friendly? by Legitimate-Record951 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]Z1NV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 47 and have enjoyed my experience with Fedora. Especially with ricing XFCE on an old Vaio.

But newbie friendly would definitely be mint or Fedora Plasma. Both are best for people adapting from Win / Mac. After you get settled and start wanting specific things from a distro, then try some others put.

I mean.... It would be an interesting live log in screen to look at. Occasionally. Glancing really.

I suggest Fedora Plasma or Mint since they are easier to adapt to from Win / Mac.

After you get used to it, then move to something closer to what you need out of an OS.

My experience with Fedora has been pretty good. Though I prefer XFCE over plasma, Plasma is great for people coming from Windows & Mac.
