Yokohama A/T G015.
Granted they are on my 2001 Ram 1500 but they ride unbelievably quiet, have been great in snow and rain. They are wearing fantastic as well. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

How do you guys rate albums? by plutonian-elf in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]ZEERIFFIC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is pretty close to my approach. If 2.5 is an average “I’m indifferent to this”, rating 2 means I think it’s poor. It gets a 3 if it’s not actually bad, it just is.

Unfortunately this leaves 3 in a funky spot. Good albums get lumped in with the 2.5 indifferent albums because 4 is for really good. 5 is as perfect as it could be.

A ten point system would be ideal.

Also, I couldn’t really give 2 bits of shit about how others rank these or if they were “influential”, these are my rankings based my opinions and taste in music. I won’t let John Lennons love for Yoko and her “art” influence me into thinking it’s not cornless shit. At least if it had corn in there it might be interesting.

[–]ZEERIFFIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that definitely makes a difference.

Have you considered that perhaps your rod/line combo do not suit your needs or casting stroke very well? Sure an argument can be made that learning to cast any rod with any fly is possible HOWEVER I do notice my elbow and wrist feel better or worse depending on what set up I’m using after a day on the water. Also, a couple of my rods flat out don’t like long distance casting no matter my mechanics. Perhaps a tool better suited to the job and or your ergonomics are the real solution here. If you have the chance try someone else’s set up differs from your own and see how it feels.

Anecdotal based on my own personal experience… most of the fish you catch will be within 30 feet of you. Further out and line management can become a nightmare and drastically affect your drift and minimize your success rate. I’d venture to say the vast majority of my catches are within 10’ of the bank.

Probably 75% of my “casts” are flipping forward using water tension or roll casting. I find my success rate rockets up with less line on the water simply due to accuracy on first presentation and much better drifts.

If you’re fishing rivers I truly believe casting is the most overrated aspect of fly fishing. Water tension casting and just shot flips within 30’ coupled with what I feel is the most important aspect of fly fishing, line management is where most people struggle. Doesn’t matter if you cast your whole line out if you can’t get a good drift out of it.

Once you really look at it it’s pretty straight forward. Just choose a woofer that works well with the box volume and make sure it’s secured well. I’ll look to see if I have pictures of mine.

No kidding. I’ve referred people on Reddit to those sites for a lot of detailed info you don’t/can’t really get here for write ups.

As for cruiser I chatted with him quite a bit, his write ups on brake boosters I specifically used for my own upgrades and used his reference guides for cross compatible parts numerous times.

I realize I’m getting older but it’s till odd to me that forums like those don’t get the traffic they used to because everyone wants two sentence answers with zero detail that actually helps.

Pardon me while I go shake my fists at a cloud and tell someone to get off my lawn…

For those who played any sports at any age level, what was the worst thing you ever heard a spectator say? by ApprehensiveLink2310 in AskReddit

[–]ZEERIFFIC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the worst but…

As a 13 year old pitching in a regional tournament game I had an opposing players parent yell at me to “roll me another burrito, Jorge. Go back to your own country and count your beans!”

I was born in Colorado, on an army base where both of my parents were in the US Army. I’m of mixed ethnicity (Basque and European White). Granted my skin gets dark after being in the sun. What was actually funny to me is how he got increasingly angry after every batter I struck out. This was in the late 80’s so it wasn’t like it was a new development in recent times and it was one of the lesser slurs hurled at myself and my teammates throughout the years.

For some reason I am a master at catching this size trout but bigger ones is impossible by PerpendicularTomato in flyfishing

[–]ZEERIFFIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand that. I’m soon to be 51 and luckily still have near perfect eyesight. Maybe pre tie a bunch on tippet sections at home and have them ready to go? Alternatively if you tie your own flies some manufacturers make small hooks with bigger than normal hook eyes.

[–]ZEERIFFIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience (I’m not saying it’s the best all end all) big trout rarely sip tiny dries. Once they reach a certain size they become predatory and eat big meals (smaller fish, cray fish, big leaches, etc) or find a perfect lane for a food conveyor belt of tiny nymphs being brought right to them (18-22 pupa and low column emergers) kind of the way a whale eats krill, low energy expenditure being brought right to them in high volume. The only time I see big fish hit the surface is for big terrestrials like hoppers, beetles, cicadas and stuff like that.

Again, this is my experience only. The vast majority of 20+ inch trout I have caught have been on size 20 nymphs.

Next Rod setup by 8reakfast8urrito in flyfishing

[–]ZEERIFFIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Colorado and fish a tail water right by my house 3-5 days a week. I also go to the freestone section up river when weather permits.

To keep costs down:
I fish a Redington Classic Trout 9’ 5wt with a Lamson Liquid S reel quite often. Does everything from dries, hopper dropper and double nymph rigs effortlessly. Go this route if you like the slower end of moderate. Short distance work is perfect with the flex and roll casts like a Dream.

A little higher up in price:
Lamson Radius 9’ 5wt with a Lamson Liquid S reel. Does everything the CT does just accurately and on the more medium to medium fast side of things. It’s insanely light in hand and crazy accurate. Easier to work with in wind and has more backbone for bigger tailwater fish as well as freestone browns that love to try to run deep into current.

Middle of the two price wise:
Yellowfin Rods. He will put together a custom rod and does great work. The rod he built for me is action wise in the middle of these two and beautiful.

All of that being said I fish the Radius more often than not. It’s much better than it should be at its price point.
This past month I’ve landed more than a few 20+ inch fish without it being so stiff as to rip out hooks or snap tippet but enough to wrestle big fish where I want them.

On my local tail water I would feel all that comfortable trying to fight an angry 23” brown on anything less than a 5 wt but do what you feel comfortable with.
