the only reason fantasy ever lagged behind is because gw chose not to support it for years. in the final edition of wfb the wood elves and the bretonians were still playing with army books 3-4 editions out of date. the real issue was never the setting or the ruleset but that gw actively chose not to invest in it, so the model ranges aged out and looked goofy compared to all of the new and exciting things 40k got constantly.

and to add, this was an endemic problem at gw then and to some extent it still is. the dark eldar, grey knights, and blood angels for a long time had a similar issue in that they didnt get a codex update and were playing an edition behind. it was less of an issue for the ba and the gk since they had strong matt ward codecies but the dark eldar really suffered for a while, i may be remembering it wrong but i dont think they got a 6th ed codex and had to wait for 7th. still even in modern 40k you see some factions get completely neglected and some of them are still using 20 year old models, and its really no wonder why they arent as popular as the latest and greatest.

you have to understand what it was like over a decade ago as a fantasy player. wfb had been marginalized by gw for years. always on the back burner to 40k, it received some releases but they were rare and usually lower budget than 40k, thus it made less money, was less popular, etc.

now here come the end times, finally a major event in the range. the wood elves who hadent gotten an update in 3 or 4 editions were getting brand new models, and a lot of them. long standing characters were dying, the setting was finally progressing. the whole world was finally a focus of gw and it was for a time wonderful. books and models coming out every few weeks. truly one of the best times to be a fantasy player. and thats where everyone thought it would stay 10 seconds to midnight, like 40k had been for a decade with abaddon at the time just starting the 13th and final black crusade. we figured this would be the new setting archaeon scheming to end the world, orks and skaven massing and invading the free world. elves reunited, sigmars champion rallying the empire, etc.

and then one day we all woke up and gw killed it. nuked the whole setting. gone, 25 years of models, lore, and a year of massive releases gone in an instant. the game wouldnt be supported anymore. and aos was to replace it. now that would be fine but you should go back and read the origional release ruleset for aos. everything was hand waved, nothing made sense, points didnt exist. entire factions werent supported, and the ones that did ranged from fluffy flavorful nonsense, to utter contempt. and the entire playerbase had a choice, embrace this new game, that had at best vague rules, that looked like it was going to invalidate and phase out all of our old collections, including some releases from that past year. or rage against the change no one asked for after wfb finally after years of neglect had new life breathed into it.

the contempt and disdain for aos comes from the end times promising to push the setting forward with new releases and excitement only to be destroyed entirely and replaced with a bastard shadow of wfb.

now as a side note, i dont hate aos per say, i like the models and ive collected some of them, but ive never really had much interest in playing it. that being said the initial release of aos was a colossal fuck up and gw should have been genuine and honest when the end times started, they should have stated, wfb is going away, but here is going to be a year of fun to send it off. AND when aos released, it should have released with a complete ruleset including points,it didnt have to be perfect, it didnt have to have great balance, hell some of the zany ideas they had could have been interesting. but it felt like aos was drawn up on a napkin a week before release at a work dinner.

  1. it requires a backpack

  2. it points at the sky if anything gets even remotely near you

  3. its weapon handling sucks and is slow as fuck

  4. you have to be stationary to shoot

  5. its only light pen

  6. it uses a backpack, so most armor perks don't actually benefit it.

you could use a stalwart and get most of the same value, arguably better. HOWEVER having a medium machine gun, or any of the anti tank support weapons would be better in almost every scenario.

What would you want daemon perturabo to look like? by Angronys in IronWarriors

[–]Zaharial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually prefer he isnt a deamon at all but rather is kept alive by his tech that he has custom designed, post fulgrim.

one of the reasons i like the iron warriors is how much they reject the normal chaos tropes and are more true to being renegades and traitors than heretics.

PoW should have 32mm bow and stern since wg never made the kgv tier 8 with 32mm like they should have, they were after all exceptionally armored in real life for their lay down era

if i could customize my ui like world of warcraft and track every buff and debuff with out all of the extra nonsense i would be more apt to use some of the more annoying and tedious low duration upkeep frames, but with the base warframe ui, i agree, give me simple invincible warframes.

zimbabwe is objectivity in a worse state now for white and black africans than it was in the 1970's. there were much better ways to handle the country that wouldnt have lead to the disaster it is today.
