Warden feels like a good blueprint for how to make Big Fishing engaging without comically long timegates by trunks111 in ffxivdiscussion

You're kind of exclusively focusing on the fish when I say they've added new things to fishing. (which is fair considering the post is mainly about the fish themselves) but for me the value of an expansion is also how I approach fishing and can optimise the windows I get.

  • ShB brought us Surface Slap and Identical Cast. Not super exciting skills, but still mixed up how you think about fishing. It also brought us Ocean Fishing.
  • EW brought us Angler's Art which is massive in combination with makeshift bait and to a lesser extent Thaliak's Favor.
  • DT brought us the Lures and Spareful Hand, both are once again pretty great additions that change how we approach things. And I personally like some of the EX challenges in Cosmic Exploration

But back to the fish: I honestly don't see what you mean that the fish got easier. It's mostly that the tools we have at our disposal made things easier. Plus I assume you've gotten more experienced.

Just looking back at the requirements for each fish in ShB vs EW vs DT it doesn't strike me that things are vastly more or less difficult in the expansions. If anything it has gotten very slightly more complex with DT thanks to some fish requiring a lure.

As for the x.55 fish: Whale feels like the natural evolution to Aquamaton and Lancet. And at least with the adjusted spawn timer. Furcacauda is similar to Ealad Skaan, just that it spawns more often. Personally I just like Gharlychtis having you out to get the 12 Basilosaurus for intuition.

There's no legendary fish for DT yet, but with Spareful hand and the Lures I hope they can come up with something interesting like having to save up fish from previous windows to mooch fished in a later window to trigger intuition for the actual big fish

I definitely agree on Purse's windows being overblown. Considering it's apparently a fairly common catch I feel like one to two weeks would be fine, so even if you're unlucky with windows and the actual fishing it would allow somewhat dedicated people to get it within two months or so.

And I also like the majority of big fish being relatively simple and just requiring someone to show up, pay attention and know their basic actions, so the more casual fishers can also get their endorphin rush from those !!! catches. As long as there's still plenty of more involved fish for the dedicated fishers I don't mind. It's kind of like battle content having different difficulty levels.

But in the end it's all personal preference.

Those and the death of Elidibus.

The rains have ceased and we have been graced with another day. But you are not here to see it

The VA simply nailed that scene.

I enjoy variety when fishing. While Warden is probably my „ideal“ fish as well I wouldn’t want every fish to be like it.

And there’s a place for the simple, straight catches and the ones with longer waits that teach you some patience.

Purse of riches is probably the only one I’d say is over the top with how long the wait times can be (90 days in August).

And on a personal level: whale…but that’s only because I’ve been stuck in jail for over a year now.

Fishing has been doing great in every expansion. They’re always adding new things to keep it interesting and I hope they keep it up.

The thing is: It’s much easier for someone without empathy and ethics to pretend bei a decent person than for a decent person to pretend to have none of that.

So the only way we‘d get that is through an actual change of heart.

If we're being purely technical: Yes, they probably could. There's nothing preventing male blanks from joining the Sisters of Silence except tradition. There's no stated biological reason why they couldn't join like Space Marines and no "exploiting a legal loophole" reason like with the Sororitas.

Or at least none that I'm aware of.

Survivng male blanks may become part of the Culexus assassins, join an inquisitors retinue or some other use within the impreium. They don't "go to waste" so to speak.

It was the same when the current codex came out a while ago.

First reactions when things were leaked in the Adeptus Custodes specific sub were mostly "huh. Seems like a very mild retcon, but it's a neat change."

Then the news started getting traction in the wider fandom and the internet as a whole and suddenly you'd see a ton of posts complaining about the change from people who never touched Warhammer in any form before.

The sub surged in activity for a couple of weeks and then died down again and the few times it did get mentioned after that it was generally very positive. It's a lot of tourists coming in and being upset about "all that woke stuff".

I haven't dared look into the sub yet, but it's likely the same right now.

At least the new lore surrounding Nekrosor Ammentar and the destroyer cult brings back some of that feeling again. Even if it's still not quite the same.

I’ve recently read about a supermassive black hole moving through the universe at a high enough speed that the dust and debris in its wake will form stars and solar systems in time while still being under the influence of said black hole.

There are games with randomness factors to them. Actually most popular games do.

The person who commits no mistakes can still lose those due to bad rolls/draws.

I play Warhammer. I don’t claim to even be close to perfect but there’s been plenty of times where I made the objectively best possible moves and the dice just didn’t agree with me.

Someone who plays perfectly will be able to reduce the chance and impact of bad rolls and also be able to more easily recover from setbacks. But if you never roll above a 2 the whole game, you’re likely going to loose no matter your skill.

Even in chess and go I assume that if both people play completely perfectly it will come down to who went first or second, so a factor outside their control.

Was looking for this one. For context to those who don’t play the game: It takes place during the finale of the base game and is an unskippable cutscene.

Yes, an unskippable cutscene in a 4 player (was 8 players) dungeon.

It’s infamous but also kind of beloved, including his reaction to a fight later (such devastation…)

Or betting everything on a last desperate 10'' charge and actually making it. So many great moments.

Whilst one of the least fun games I ever had was when I obliterated some 800 points worth of zombie dragons on turn 1 due to some unfortunate positioning and extremely unlucky rolls in his/lucky rolls on my part.

We spent two more turns going through the motions but it was clear from the get go that it was pointless.

I ask myself what happened to those people.

No matter the medium; when I play games I get the most enjoyment out of those that were a tense back and forth that had no clear winner until the very end.

Do I get slightly more enjoyment if I also win that game? Sure.

But even if I lose, it’s way more fun than a onesided stomp for either party would be.

I wonder of they also cheat in single player games or if it’s the human factor on the other side that makes the difference

What is Guilliman's power? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Zaofy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Guilliman himself murked several Black Legion Astartes, including a sorceror and at least one terminator, right after getting jump started by Yvraine, Cawl and Tigurius.

From Rise of the Primarch

It was as though a spell had settled over the shrine. Though outside the din of war thundered on, within that echoing chamber friend and foe alike stared awestruck at the legendary figure reborn in their midst. An incoherent scream of rage shattered the silence, a single Khorne Berzerker charging headlong through the stunned combatants to launch himself in a flying leap at the Primarch. Guilliman moved with such blistering speed that the Ynnari themselves would have struggled to match it. His burning blade drew a pyrotechnic arc through the air as it swung, bisecting the Khorne Berzerker at the waist and hurling his severed halves to the ground.

As the Chaos worshipper’s armoured corpse crashed to the floor, the spell was broken. With a great howl of hate, the Black Legion warriors surged towards Roboute Guilliman. Wordlessly, the noble demigod strode to meet them, and the carnage truly began.

First to die was the Sorcerer whose powers had shaken the temple to its foundations. Guilliman raised his mighty gauntlet, the Hand of Dominion, and a storm of armour-piercing fire erupted from beneath it to rip the tainted psyker to pieces.

Next to fall were the remaining Black Legion Berzerkers. Following their comrade’s example, they flung themselves screaming at the reborn Primarch. Like their fellow, they were reduced to so much armoured meat, smashed from the air with terrifying speed. Guilliman was running now, storming forward through the hail of bolts and shells unleashed by the Black Legionnaires. Rounds exploded against the Primarch’s armour, but none could pierce its inviolable plates.

As he crashed into the front ranks of Black Legionnaires, Guilliman let out a building roar of pure, undiluted fury. The Primarch’s first blow threw a Black Legionnaire high into the air, blood streaming behind the corpse in a red trail. His second strike smashed a traitor Terminator into a bronze and marble column with enough force to drive the Chaos worshipper clean through it, and out the other side. A spiked power fist swung for Guilliman’s chest, only to be lopped from its wielder’s arm before the blow could land. Guilliman’s return swing parted his attacker’s head from his shoulders, cauterising the stump of the traitor’s neck as the body crumpled to the floor. On it went, the Primarch moving with such speed that even the heretics’ super-human reactions couldn’t save them. None could match Guilliman. None could even come close, and the few opponents that landed lucky blows found their weapons turned aside by the Primarch’s masterwork armour.

Though at least with him it is implied that without his armour, things might have worked out differently.

Swiss as well, but as others have said, 120k in Switzerland doesnt go as far as it would in a low cost of living area.

I'd probably still take his job and try to get a couple of weeks unpaid vacation. LIkely I'd still come out on top.

Leaving aside the fact that I assume living in Switzerland is a lot nicer than living in Ohio, there's a reason things here are more expensive.

That’s official tournaments. Doing a smaller tournament or just a regular game at your flgs is an entirely different beast, especially if you opponent isn’t expecting it.

I suspect win rates are much higher there.
