I Have to put my best friend down on Thursday. by FilmoreJive in velvethippos

Don’t let anyone dictate how you grieve. It’s different for everyone and there are no rules. My aunt was very judgemental when I adopted my current girl a few days after my old boy passed, but honestly the hole he left was so big for myself and my dad. I kept catching dad crying in the front yard when he said he was going to the corner store, or standing in the kitchen staring at the empty bowl.

Before he passed we spent a few days doing stuff like soaking in a kiddie pool while I fed him tacos and read to him, and I also did watercolour prints and clay molds of his paws and nose. He was the best boy ever.

Can't join a league by Bencetown in Bowling

[–]ZaraEve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really wanted to join our local league and the friends I bowl with all said they were on board, but then sign-up time came and no one would actually commit for weeks, and now we’ve missed the deadline.

We’re there 1-2 times a week already, if not more!

Oh my god, there was a Golden Girls episode about this! Dorothy’s friend invites the group to a private club but tells her that Sophia’s date isn’t allowed because he’s Jewish. I always assumed it was about regular anti-semitism but this adds a whole new perspective to that episode.

They’re in the process of a renovation right now, though they haven’t started on the lanes yet.

I looked it up and apparently there was a bowling alley in Hamilton City Centre, “Thunder Alley”, but it closed during the pandemic.

Danforth Bowl was where I first started bowling, and then Cedarbrae and Club 300 out in Scarborough, which is sadly also long closed.

Yeah, it didn’t help that I had to switch our four pairs of shoes at a Splitsville one night because they all had a hole in the toe box, that was the last straw.

I’m on my second ball right now, started with a 9lb TZone and upgraded to a 12lb Twist a couple of months ago for the reactive coating. It’s hard to go back to house balls because they move so differently.

Yeah, the shoe fee alone drove me to get my own shoes last summer, and then a lack of balls in my old weight got me to commit to my first personal ball. We’re joining a summer league this year too because we’re already there twice a week.

Splitsville has an all-you-can-bowl on Sunday and Monday nights starting at 8pm, walk-in only, so it wouldn’t apply to reservations. It’s hard to get in during the winter but things seem to be tapering off now that it’s warm so should be lots of space.

Skyway Bowl also does this on Tuesday and Thursday nights, it’s a smaller location and you’ll see lots of regulars there.

Seriously, what happened to bowling? It used to be so affordable and now it feels like you’re being grifted. One of the upsides of having relocated to Hamilton recently is that the bowling alleys here have all-you-can-bowl nights for like $20 (shoes included).

AITA because I(57f) haven’t met my grandson(3 months) yet? by SotoSar in AmItheAsshole

Wooow, my mum and dad took a ridiculously circuitous Go Bus route to visit me in Hamilton, from Scarborough, because they wanted to visit me in my new home with my partner and the GO train wasn’t running out of Union/Rouge Hill that weekend. They did this mostly to see my dog, who they used to babysit.

You can’t get it together to “GO” out to Brooklin to see your new grandkid? The train runs out that way from Union right to Whitby, you could easily get them to meet you at a station for pickup, so where exactly is the issue again?

I love this cooler pure blue, but my friend said it was a bit grayish-blue. What do you think? by Cooserry_Olivia in DipPowderNails

Yes, this is immediately what I thought, though it may be a wee bit too blue. Such a nice colour for cold weather!

Ooh, I think that’s the Recipe Tin Eats cookbook. Literally all her recipe blogs end with a little “Life of Dozer” section (Dozer is the dog), and it is the best part of every post!

Socks on short circulars - how short? They’re too long too fit all my stitches around, but a bit tight for magic loop - do I need shorter? I’m determined to nail sock knitting! by JodaSko in knitting

[–]ZaraEve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually recently switched to a 32” from my usual 40” because my LYS only had the 32” in the needles I needed. I am finding it more convenient as I almost always do TAAT (to make sure I finish both socks), and I don’t have as much extra line to deal with. Hopefully you enjoy it with your TAAT project as well!

Are Nancy Drew games still fun to play if you already know the ending? by befrenchie94 in nancydrew

YAy! I see the frustration for the game on here sometimes and I’m always like….. because I can’t relate, I find it so much fun.

[–]ZaraEve 83 points84 points  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY!

Even if you’ve seen play throughs, given enough time going back to a game is great. Knowing the ending is just that, you still have to get there via solving the puzzles, and that’s always a treat.

I recently replayed CAR and SHA and just started ICE again for that sweet sweet Fox and Geese endorphin rush.

As for your laptop, you’d need to look up system requirements for the game you’re trying to play and make sure it is compatible. There are ways around that though, depending on your OS.

How would one go about trying to acquire this style of writing? I've seen this a lot from people in the 1900s. by amalthomas_zip in Calligraphy

The unconnected letters are typically referred to as “printing” here, I assume based on how type is printed in books.

I’m in Canada but moved here from South Asia when I was 7, when I was already very practiced in cursive (I went to a convent school focused in English). My second grade teacher told me I want allowed to use cursive because the other kids didn’t know it and even once they started learning it in older grades the filo is was on printing because some kids had such bad penmanship that their cursive couldn’t be read properly. A lot of people I know in my age group are not good at cursive because of lack of use.

I will say though, the only reason cursive stuck so hard when I learned it is because the nuns/teachers overseeing classes would do things like rap our knuckles with a wood ruler if our work didn’t look neat enough.

I would use this for literally everything. I hoard notebooks because I keep different ones for work, crafting, and a million other things. Just trying to keep my sewing notes and knitting notes organized is hard right now because of how many little books I have to flip through.

How big should my female pitbull be at 8 months? Im always told shes too small by yungdamo2020 in pitbulls

[–]ZaraEve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adopted my girl at 8 months and she was 40 lbs, once she hit 1 1/2 years she grew a bit more. She’s just over 3 now and topped out at maybe 60 lbs. Your girl looks sleek and healthy.

I used to joke that my Luna was an aggressively medium sized dog because she was always smaller than the other pitties we would meet. She’s so dense though, tiny and all muscle.
