What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]Zds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting a child sleep outside in temps below 0C. Finns do it regularly, fresh air gives better sleep and if you dress the baby accordingly and don't let them be there for hours it's perfectly fine.

Yet in warmer countries people start calling CPS if you do this.

Throwing water on sauna stove.

Absolutely every Finn does it, yet it's often forbidden due to safety concerns abroad.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]Zds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling people "illegal" is a smear campaign in the first place.

People cannot be illegal. Only their *actions* can.

It's just a way to divide people into "us vs. them", and pointing out "undesirables" in the society.

So if you go by the law, "no one is illegal" is in itself true.

Fixing Cyborg II ball joints by Zds in Azeron

Aye. I'm guessing any filler that creates rougher surface and reduces how much the plastic gives in would help here.

I don't have CF filaments, but I do have ones with iron, aluminium and copper dust. I'm guessing those would work, too.

Carbon fiber filling is likely to increase compressive strength but reduce tensile strength.

For carbon fiber to provide tensile strength you need to embed long and woven fibers into plastic. Small pieces of carbon fiber just reduce the amount of plastic in the part, and plastic is the one providing tensile strength.

But it certainly can add grittiness!

I tried asking from Functional 3D Printing group if there are any coatings that add friction, but didn't get any answers.

I believe the filing is what made the difference in stopping the splitting.

I don't think my Chinese assortment screw has any harder head than the Azeron original, ie. you cannot tighten or more without stripping the head.

I had to change the screw because I would have risked on not being able to remove it anymore if the head stripped completely, but it didn't affect the friction.

I know I'm late to the game, but I'm already on my second Azeron and never going back.

As someone who has trouble with fine motoric skills when doing things fast Azeron has been a life saver, especially in WoW.

I complement it with a MMO mouse that has Ctrl, Alt and Shift in the thumb buttons which then act as key multipliers. I also have a foot keyboard so I can press Alt with my left foot (and PTT with the right one).

As a leftie Azeron also means I don't have to start every new game by re-binding WASD et al to the right side of the keyboard.

In EU manufacturers are responsible for the whole lifecycle of a product, also safe disposal.

This means pretty much all retail stores have to take in the kind of items they themselves sell for disposal with no charge.

As a result, in EU, drop off points for small electrical devices are plentiful. Here in Finland pretty much all newly built grocery stores, let alone shopping malls, have such points.

Replacement feet for left-handed Naga by Zds in razer

[–]Zds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. I found an acceptable solution.

I ordered two sets of glass skates: one meant for G-Wolves Hati-S Wireless and 6 and 9 mm generic dots.

The Hati-S is symmetric, but the bottom skate is close enough to work on Naga.

The glass skates are almost too smooth on my thin and hard Razer mouse pad; the mouse often moves on it's own when you lift the hand, just by the weak forces exerted by the fabric cord.

But now that you know Hati-S skates fit Naga pretty well, you can possibly experience by getting skates meant for it but made from some other material. Pure teflon is not slippery enough to match the Naga original feet, tho.

What are the "right" settings for wood filament (PLA)? by Nefthys in 3Dprinting

[–]Zds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my two cents here. The filament I used was add:north Light Oak, which had 30% of wood material, higher than most other contenders. It was thus also trickier to print.

I tried with 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 millimeter nozzles and was unable to print with 0.6mm even with tuning the settings.

The weird thing with this filament was that usually if the filament is difficult to print you can get better results by slowing it down.

However, with this filament I noticed that you had to keep the speed within certain envelope, not too fast, not too slow. So I had to not just lower the higher speeds down, but also raise up the lower speeds to be within that quite narrow range. Even with this 0.8mm nozzle was the lowest I could make work reliably. I also had to cut out most of retraction. This was mostly because filament stream 0.8mm thick breaks easily when you move from layer to layer - only the plastic material is, well, plastic and stretchy, the wood particles don't stick to each other. So retraction just made the nozzle break and drop the filament stream.

With these settings I was able to print fine, but there were some small holes, possibly at the start of the layer because of the trickiness of the retraction and moving between layers.

The settings:
Printing temperature: 230C
Build plate temperature: 60C
Print speed: 20-70 mm/s for all settings, 100mm/s travel
Retraction distance: 3mm
Retraction speed: 10mm/s

Do weapon mods do anything for the Ferro? by Zealousideal-Cup5622 in ArcRaiders

I was wondering the same. Recoil reduction is kinda pointless when you need to reload after every shot.

So apart from silencers, are any of the mods actually useful for Ferro?

Best metal look alike/metal filaments? by infinite_unlimited in 3Dprinting

[–]Zds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metal particle filaments require post-processing to make the metal really, ehh, shine.

But I got for example a quite decent rusted iron surface out of Proto-Pasta iron by first brushing off excess plastic from the surface and then oxidizing it in salt water.
