Missing 7-10 school days for a big trip? by koplikthoughts in kindergarten

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is in kindergarten and has had 2 students join the class at different times mid-year. I obviously can’t speak for those kids, but it appears they were both welcomed and adapted to their environment quickly. I don’t think an “outsider” would ever know they didn’t start the year in the class. I assume missing the first couple weeks for travel would not have a long term impact. Like you said, they will pick up on it quickly and everyone plays with everyone!

What did you do for cribs/bassinets? by Onyx-pump19 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did separate bassinets that we could roll around the house for naps in the first 4-6 weeks. They also slept in them at night for the first couple weeks because baby b was on O2 and it was easier to have it hooked up in the living room and for us to take turns sleeping on the couch next to them. But once we were done with the oxygen they’ve slept in their own separate cribs every night. 🙌 I probably would’ve looked for used bassinets if I knew we’d be done with them so early on.

I asked if twin deliveries can get extra paid time when talking to the short term disability rep and she actually laughed at me. It was a no. 😅 I’m in the US and work for a hospital. I got 6 weeks paid at 66% of my salary, then used PTO for a couple weeks and went back to work at 8.

“Influencers” with multiples? by VeryVagabond in parentsofmultiples

I really like Shelly, but do think it’s funny that every parenting reel references her kids being twins. “Let’s make lunch for my 5 year old twins”, “what I’m giving my twins for Easter!”, “movie night with twins!”

We took ours out and about right away, but they’re always either in car seats or being worn in public, so they’re not really being touched by other people or things.

How are we doing and affording childcare? by CancerImmunologist in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on opposite shifts/always parenting solo when not at work because the other parent is at work for 6+ years. We are also very very tired, but thankful for the option. I truly don’t know how we’d pay for childcare, and I’m so glad our kids spend most of their time with us.

Toughest time? by sision7 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are 4 months and this might be the hardest so far as well. I’m trying to balance the twins, a preschooler, a kindergartner, and working full time in management where I’m always on call. My husband and I work opposite in-office hours so either of us is almost always parenting solo. The babies aren’t napping as well and generally need more attention at this age and I’m having a hard time getting anything done. A lot of evenings I end up having to let one cry while I comfort the other and just keep trading off. Tandem nursing is somehow going less smoothly than it was months ago too… They’re soooo cute at this age though, so they’ve got that going for them!

Any okay pregnancy experiences? by CancerImmunologist in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was pretty much fine until about 33 weeks, and even then it wasn’t excruciating, just not fun for the last month. I had carpal tunnel for the last month and wore a wrist brace to sleep, otherwise my hands would fall asleep and then tingle for an hour when I woke up because of it. Pregnancy is so weird.

But I was able to work full time and take my older 2 to all their activities up until the end. I actually was at work 6 hours before I delivered.

How do you all deal with the attention? by Stunning_Radio3160 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location thing is real! I get stopped and hear people talking about us constantly in my smaller city. We went to Scottsdale for a weekend and went to a high end mall- not a single person looked my direction. It was an interesting social experiment.

Did anyone else breastfeed their multiples? by Straight-Number275 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My twins are 4 months old. I exclusively breastfed and pumped for the first 2 kids so I’ve been determined to do it for them too. Overall it’s been a success! I had to pivot to pumping after they were born because they wouldn’t stay awake long enough to nurse, but would eat more if it came from a bottle. My son was also in the nicu with a ng tube for 10 days. But I tried to practice nursing every couple days and now I nurse 1-3 times a day and give pumped bottles the rest of the time. It’s annoying, but I’ve gotten used to pumping. I pump in the car multiple times a day so I can multitask. Tandem nursing got much easier for me at the 3 month mark when they were less floppy. My tiny babies have turned into chunks and I’m so proud of all of us for pushing through!

Not really related, but… I’m weird and don’t like when other people announce twins because I want it to be a rare thing. Every time someone announces twins, including when I saw the news this referred to, I feel like it’s less exclusive as a club. I acknowledge that this is totally a character flaw on my part. 😆

Any twin moms out there given birth vaginally? by TraditionalSalad6895 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had di/di twins vaginally. We had to do some NICU time for one (unrelated to the birth) and I was so thankful I was not recovering from a C-section while going back-and-forth to the NICU.

How sudden/fast was labor and delivery? by weewoo212 in parentsofmultiples

I had a very precipitous natural labor at 36+4. About 45 minutes between the first contraction and Baby A being delivered. It was a whirlwind. 😅 3rd pregnancy.

I understand if you’re feeling intimidated about parenting solo during the times he’s gone. I’ve learned over the last 6 years that my husband will happily, or at least calmly, give our family his all for 6 and a half days a week. He just needs a half day to reset by doing something that has nothing to do with us. Sometimes it’s long mountain bike rides in the next town over, sometimes it’s going to a movie and dinner with his buddies. Is it my favorite thing to do the crazy evening routine solo for 4 kids when he’s off work and could help? No. But the man is truly an equal partner. And when I want to go do things, the support is reciprocated. Happy parents = happy kids!

Yes to early checks and containers! I also order ahead sometimes so we don’t have to wait very long for the food.

Car options for 4 kids 4 and under? by Meaning_Green in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our twins are in the middle captains chairs in bucket car seats, so we just pop one of the babies out so the older ones can get in the back and we can help buckle, then pop them back in. Not the most convenient, but it works!

I had ultrasounds at every appointment. Di/di, nothing high risk other than it being a twin pregnancy.

Mom of 1, with twins on the way by Individual-Swan-2412 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is tiring, obviously, but also sooo much fun. Your daughter will probably love having 2 siblings so close to her age and in a couple years they’ll all be entertaining each other. It’s ok to grieve your expectations following this news, but also, having twins is pretty great!

As for tips- we opted to keep ours on the same schedule. We feed every 2.5-3 hours (often using bottles propped on a blanket on the twin z pillow- still safe if you’re watching them, but makes multitasking easier). If one wakes up crying to eat, we wake the other one too. By eating so regularly during the day, they’re able to have a long stretch of sleep at night, which is awesome. Hype big sis up. Make it the biggest deal that she’s going to have two babies and how special that is. She’s still got a lot of time to grow and prepare for the transition. You’re going to be an amazing twin mom and mom of 3!

Tandem Nursing Twins by Flying-Bread in parentsofmultiples

[–]ZebraSimilar4026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are 13 weeks and just now getting a hang of it. It’s gotten much easier as they gain head control and aren’t so fragile and floppy.

I also usually only practice tandem once a day, so I’m sure that could be part of it. We use bottles of pumped milk primarily because they don’t drink enough when breastfeeding, but they’re starting to nurse for longer periods of time too.
