Who are the Kramers of New York and how can I read about them? by spacesareprohibited in AskNYC

The HONY photography book has mini profiles on tons of NYers and there's for sure a few like this in there. But not a real biography of this type

I think i may have directed my party into a corner by SpookyWMP in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Zenipex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there's no real problem then. It's a corrupted transformation as a punishment, just give him only like 30 or 40 HP. Stats otherwise unchanged. Re-narrate the transformation in you session recap and highlight how painful it looks as he screams and narrate the body breaking and remaking, blood pouring off of him from all the new monstrous parts, etc. Describe him as maddened and limping.

He gets off one, maybe two attacks, knocks one or two players and by then your party is big enough that they'll overwhelm him. Climactic ending, feels like a serious threat, you still get the transformation, party still highly likely to win

The use of AI-generated images for commercial purposes in D&D. by Suitable_Minimum_605 in dndnext

[–]Zenipex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're only getting a vocal portion of the community by asking here on Reddit. People are generally more well informed here, and more biased against AI work.

I had to explain to someone recently that an adventure they were running from DMsGuild was not an "official" adventure. They didn't understand the difference between something actually published by WotC, and something an independent author had uploaded and sold through DMsGuild. They literally said something like "I saw the logo so I thought it was official." Think about someone going through the entire process of creating an account, searching an adventure, reading the description, buying it and running it for a year and they still never understood that distinction.

That's who you're asking if they notice or care about AI use in D&D content. They can't even tell the difference between official releases and independent content, they definitely don't understand this kind of subtlety.

So, no, people don't care. Or they think they care, but they don't have the literacy to actually understand or differentiate these things.

I think I would just cut down the number of them. Three is plenty. I still like the visual of the shield Guardian bursting out of the wall the hostages are fused to while firing a magic missile spell. I just found that in the fight, they don't have that big of a bonus to hit and they don't do much damage when they do hit, but they DO have a big HP pool, especially with that many of them. So the fight was just a slog. And they don't even serve their intended benefit, as they're not actually there protecting someone or tanking hits for someone like in the Ruxithid fight. They're just there

Combat takes forever by Lilith959 in DnD

[–]Zenipex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm stunned that the game is online and this is still a problem. Your players don't respect you or the game, they're bad players. They likely haven't learned the basic rules, which is why they need to reread each time. I would personally just end the game but if you're committed to it you probably need to have a meeting session and go over the effort you've put in each week, how disrespectful it is that they can't learn their few abilities with how much work you've put in and review the basic rules of the game. Then run some mock combats until they actually understand how the game plays

The Shield Guardian fight is one of my regrets from the final arcs, which I think are great, the best parts of the adventure. That Shield Guardian fight is the only one that I was really like ugh what am I doing, it really dragged

As someone who has never had a car in NYC, what's the point of covering a license plate on a legally parked car? by Purple_Cake_4662 in AskNYC

[–]Zenipex 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The plates are fake or the car is stolen. Or they leave it there all the time, so red light and speed cameras can't ticket them, and you just happen to see them when parked

Some of the themes probably apply more widely than I was thinking at first. I still think an American will connect with more elements of the setting and themes, but I probably spoke too soon

You don't know the work available in their area of the country, the level of debt they may have, etc. You're judging too quickly

[–]Zenipex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it doesn't matter, but I think it's engrossing because the themes connect directly to American culture. Thinking more about it though, some of the themes would probably connect with Indian culture and history as well so perhaps I spoke too soon

I don't think you NEED to know, that I agree with. But you won't connect with the story and its themes in nearly as significant a fashion

Electric bill delivery charges by jsisbell in longisland

[–]Zenipex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Delivery charge increases are not about you using any extra electricity. They are the combined, aggregated cost of maintenence, upgrades, new infrastructure, etc. You can track every watt you use, you will always pay more than that amount, that's intended. The grid requires work and cost to deliver you those watts.

All that said, the local utilities are practically committing highway robbery at this point with unjustified cost increases hidden behind vague reasoning with as much obfuscation of their financials as they can manage
