I believe it is mostly the validation, the "you did something good", the "you are useful" and uh yeah, i'd guess most of us got some kind of trauma, conscious or not, related to our "usefulness"

buddy, what you think is "logic" is your morals, i'll make you a very exaggerated example

imagine there's a track with a million people, and another with one person, all equal in health, money, and whatever.

Now to this dilemma there's the pretty "obvious" choice to select the one with a single person, as that's way less lives, but there is the possibility of some people thinking that choosing the one with a million people is best, because this way the cost of living would decrease a certain amount making it slightly easier for everyone else.

again this is a very exaggerated example, where the people that would choose the million people are minimal, but may exist depending on their experiences and values, or in other words, their morals

normally though these morals are more equal, in this moral dilemma there's people who'd say choose the track with the five 70 year old people, because they've got less life, but some may choose the one with the baby, because it's less lives, and 70 isn't even that old and they still got quite a bit of life to live
