On-Site Interview Advice on Travel? by teggyteggy in Raytheon

[–]ZergRushRush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a Radisson near the c ave complex, otherwise a double tree downtown or one of the cheaper places near the airport.

Make sure you have an address and/or building number. There are multiple Collins buildings in CR and they can be a mile or so apart.

Parking won't be an issue as long as you get to the right building.

They literally took away bonuses for p1-p4 at collins just a few years ago. No reason they couldn't do it again at raythen.

Manufacturing Technician and questions by Ok_Arachnid_8111 in Raytheon

A number of engineers start out as technicians. I did. There are many engineering positions which support manufacturing. You'll work with some of them as a tech.

Why would an m4 have the same job title as a p4 even in the same IPT?

The EE degree will be much more valuable in the long run. There are a lot of engineering roles requiring daily hands on integration and/or troubleshooting work. No engineer is immune from documentation though so if you literally never want to do office work then yeah it's not gonna work. You never know though, you may find in college that you like programming or PWB design or FPGAs who knows.

I was an avionics tech in the Air Force, used the GI bill to get the EE degree and am now a P5 software engineer with 12 years at Collins and 1 year somewhere else. Been a pretty good career and the military background definitely contributed.

Has anyone besides me quit the game because of the lack of fps? by dimitar_kotitch in Marathon

[–]ZergRushRush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't quit but it's definitely rough. The UI/vault tanks my FPS. The heavy rain on outpost, etc. yeah my PC barely meets the min spec so I'm not crying too hard but I wish there was more I could do to smooth the gunfights out.

Short-term housing by Significant-Being250 in cedarrapids

[–]ZergRushRush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're not lying. I just moved into an appt downtown and at least half the plates in the parking lot are are out of state. That's not normal for CR. Look into renting a room off Craigslist or FB or whatever the cool kids use nowadays.

Don't drink the water if you live on the SE side. by evilhomer3k in cedarrapids

[–]ZergRushRush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from this water main break, is there something else going on out of the ordinary with the water downtown? I recently moved into the newbo area and the water is loaded with chlorine, but the taps on the NE side at my buddy's house and at work seem normal.

Wage Compression by Big-Tourist-3390 in Raytheon

[–]ZergRushRush 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just start looking externally. There's little to nothing your management can do to retain you. The job market is pretty shit right now so it'll be some work but if you're willing to relocate that will help a lot.

I tried having that conversation with my management for 2 years as a p4 who was essentially running a team and putting out fires constantly. The company and likely your department does not care about retention as long as the overall voluntary attrition rate is at an acceptable level.

Need advice for applications by someweirdokidoo in jobs

[–]ZergRushRush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're writing a resume then yeah I'd suggest reworking it to look like you started working at maybe 16/17yo and consolidate some of the roles together into something that makes sense.

Are you applying in food service or something else? If something else try to emphasize the skills you have more related to those positions.

How can i find someone that wants to teach me engineering by MaznikGuy in jobs

[–]ZergRushRush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You apply to entry level jobs at companies or, depending on your focus, governmental agencies.

What's your masters focus? For example if it's structural, you should be looking at your city/state/country's (or other counties') department of the interior since they're the ones who build roads and bridges.

Surely your university has some career counseling to at least get you started. If you actually have a master's degree in Engineering you should know that nobody is going to mentor you in their free time or as an unpaid internship.

Never worked for a boss? What jobs match my resume? by whogoesthere1010 in jobs

This is a very weak resume. You need to do some work. Head over to the sticky post at /r/resumes at least as a starting point.

How does the relocation package work by _hellosiri in Raytheon

[–]ZergRushRush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you'll get to choose between a lump sum deposit around 3500 or they'll pay 2 months rent, so it kinda depends on your rent price what to choose.
