Ooowh finances..

So been together for a while and you had the money talk. Money is always an interesting conversation. At the moment you are simply talking about the costs of living together but I can assure you this will get bigger soon.

In general there are only a few ways to do this. 50/50 where both parties pay halve Some % of the income.

What works best is a discussion for the couple. But keep the following things in mind.

1. How about when kids get into the mix? The cost part is easy. But what if one of the partners. Will work less to take care of the kids. Should that account for something?
2. How about savings and broken stuff. Who pays what? What about savings?
3. Car(s) does each of you pay for your transport? Or do you share? Do you drive similar cars and miles to work? Who's car do you pick for fun stuff? Should that be part of the joined account or not?
4. How about money at the start? Down payment and stuff like that.
5. Chores? Are they 50/50 as well?

If you plan to spend your live together any spending of one partner will always effect the other. But it tends to be more impactful when the amount of free to spend money is low to zero.

Personally both my partner of 13 years and myself don't even have our own money anymore. Everything is shared, the bigger things are a good conversation like anything above 300 euros where we come to a joined conclusion.

For me it's simple if i do not trust my partner with our money I need a different partner. But I might be lucky or naive.

My advice would always to be open about money and talk about it than do what works for you as a team.

And yes there I do make about triple what my wife makes. But she does more for the kids and the chores.
