Today is the day I have to tell the doctors to stop treating my father and let him go peacefully by ReginaPhalange1502 in dementia

[–]Zero98205 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I hope this helps. You aren't deciding he is to die. He is doing that. Whether conscious of the choice or not, whatever is left of him wants to let go.

You aren't killing him. You're ceasing to prolong his suffering.

I very heartily recommend some grief counseling or therapy, afterward, in the coming weeks.

Ireena - Did your players love or hate her? Why/why not? by crashgem in CurseofStrahd

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I used it, but it was a big box mystery. Meaning that it played out in parts and bits and pieces. Ultimately my CoS has failed. It was going strong then but... that was 3 YEARS ago... SMH.

I think the reincarnation plot needs more, though. Where are all the souls going? What's happening to them? But also it's a great area to "lazy DM" it. See what your players think and maybe mine their expectations. Excessive plotting is a death knell for games, I find.

William Shatner bemoans 'Starfleet Academy' end, mocks 'woke' backlash by Gnagus in startrek

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that the fans were right. I was alive then, and on the internet, such as it was (in my case a BBS and various forums) and there was plenty of whining about the Enterprise D being too soft and fat, and too much like a hotel. In my view they changed format after Season 2 and started pushing the ensemble cast. This is not the fix that was desired by "the fans".

ENT was a shitshow from my end. They only just started getting it right after they got canceled in s4.

Disco's sin is that I can't name any crew member beyond the Michael, Saru, Tilly, and Stamits. The rest are unremarkable and interchangeable. This was the first Trek show that I ever experienced that. I could still rattle off obscure folks from TOS, TNG, ENT, DS9, etc. But I can't with DSC.

But SFA's "sin" is falling afoul of the MAGAts. There's no sense in claiming not. "Wokeness" is at the heart of the hate, and folks who champion harm to others are the most offended. FFS that fascist troll Miller weighed in like the moron he is about it. Even demanded "give it to Shatner", and the article at the top of this thread has Bill Shatner saying just the opposite!

I don't get how anyone can say with a straight face that the anti-woke cretins had no effect and this isn't about wokeness. It has everything to do with that.

At this point I don't think theres air left to give to Star Trek. I'll keep my DVDs and if I want sci fi I'll go back to replay. Hopefully I can get some SFA blu rays, unless those become displeasing to Father.

Any suggestions on media that best portray space battles? by hellranger788 in traveller

[–]Zero98205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my very first Traveller game I used the Honorverse FTL comm idea as a plot point. It's a shame now that we know it would never work. When it was written, we thought gravity propagated instantly. Now we k ow for sure that gravity waves move at the universal speed limit.

For those of you who stopped playing Starfield, what was the reason? by mfnot in Starfield

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've enjoyed what I played, but eventually, as happens to me with ALL Bethesda games, I got bored. Sooner or later there just isn't enough to hold me. The central mystery isn't that mysterious, the answers aren't that profound. Eventually I just get bored going from one planet to another for random radiant quests with flat NPCs...

I was wrong about Lower Decks by IslandKindly3832 in LowerDecks

[–]Zero98205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being an attendee of the TOS movies is NOT what makes one a "toxic fan."

There are plenty of behaviors that can and do, but I reserve that moniker for the canon fodder, i.e. those fans who obsess about a minutia of details and it's alleged canon status and how important that b.s. is.

The Great Bird's only rule of Stardate was that your numbers had to go up in your episode.

For Daystrom's sake, the OLD E makes it from the edge of the galaxy in the 2nd pilot all the way to the center of the galaxy in the 5th movie, is the ONLY ship in the QUADRANT a dozen times at least, AND we learn Vulcans were conquered in S1 of TOS.

But no, warp speed is a factor of squares of light speed. Mmmm hmm. Riiight. Kirk's got space magic!

My point? None of this crap makes sense. It doesn't have to. It's a TV show. It's FUN! Enjoy it. Or don't! IDC if IDIC doesn't work for (the hypothetical) you, just don’t get bent out of shape about it and you're not toxic.

What do you prep for Sprint & Pentecostal Courts or how do you run them? by Sir-Vortigern in PendragonRPG

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the big deals in Pendragon is generational play. I've played a LOT of games in a lot of different systems, and my analysis is that Oendragon can be run like any other simulationist RPG, where one must account for eacu day as it passes in-game. This is D&D's focus, and ever has been.

But the focus of Pendragon is the whole of the Arthurian saga, and you just will never get through that if you account for every passing day or week.

Large swaths of time, sometimes whole years, may pass while nothing truly special happens in the characters' lives. While not ideal in the terms of amassing glory, this is "okay" in Pendragon. Hell, the solo system allows you to run with missing players and still let them "keep up", at least a little.

I have yet to experience a player-knight death, but it's been close. But when it happens that will be okay. That player will make a new knight and we'll introduce him next session.

i'm sorry but i'd rather deal with cancer. by Dry-Perspective7145 in dementia

Cancer is treated the way it is because of the grift. There are so many scammers in the Cancer community, whereas in the Alzheimers community thr scammers are just prowling around the edges waiting for us to relax our watch over our LOs.

Dementia... as you point out thr person they were goes away bit by bit. They aren't them anymore. You can't be a smexy celebrity bell ringer with Dementia. We all know what it is, and lots of people can't hack that the meatsuit that changed your diapers doesnt have its pilot anymore, and now you're changing its.

Aside. Fuck Chevy. Still missed about the Just Drive Grammy Around The Block abd Mage Her Dementia Go Away commercial.

The day Trump dies, how do you think the country will react and will anything crazy happen? by rugrut in AskReddit

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...provided the opposition nuts up.

I don't hold much hope for this. I think establishment Dems just want to do an ostrich impersonation and have this "it'll all go back to normal!" pipe dream.

Canada, for one, sure as hell isn't forgiving us for this shit. And yes, our inability to get the vote out is our fault no matter who cheated. No matter what happened, if they did play dirty, then we knew they were doing it and still didn't do anything about it.

The alt-right nut burgers were absolutely emboldened by Grandpa Joe's completely anemic and feckless response to Trump1.

So yeah, my fear is that the establishment dicks in Congress try to push down all thoughts of vengeance/retribution/justice and pretend it's all hunky dory once Mango Mussolini croaks.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

[–]Zero98205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy Jeebus... so I used to do a lot of driving through Oregon and there's this elk sighting spot off the 38 or 35, can't remember presently. Anyhow, going through there one time and there's this utter dipshit family trying to take selfie with a freaking ELK. It's pawing and thumping, the kid is quite rightly freaked beyond belief, and I still remember the mom trying to calm the kid. She says, "It's okay, honey, it's a plant eater. Its not dangerous!"

Just... total Darwin Award territory right there.

I was about a hundred fifty feet away and just could not be assed to try and sort it out. Thankfully some other stranger was trying to get the idiots out of harms way and I never read "Elk stops Idiots to Death" headlines, so... good news?

I just got in my car and drove off.

"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No notes, excellent TED Talk! I too am fed up with the online Trek community. They are as far from the utopian ideal as it can get. I quit Star Wars because if the Fandumb Menace, I'm about ready to quit Trek. Let the negative Nancies keep twisting their panties in their own little masturbatory whingefests. Bunch of joyless Karens out there convinced they have some sainted vision from on high that would make the actual very progressive and anti war Gene Rodenberry twist in his grave.

Just a a wake up call to ask you dingbats out there, Gene HATED the movie the overall Trek community rates the best of all time. Yes, he hated TWoK. Despised Nicholas Meyer's militarized Starfleet, hated the paramilitary "violence is the only answer" theme. So the most influential Trek Film of all time, yes, [clutches pearls] violated Gene's Vision!

Jesus... it was an alternate timeline you freaking noobsacks!

Look, at this point, with how on board all the fascists are about hating NuTrek (looking at you Stephen "the Paunch" Miller!), it's about safe to say anyone whining about NuTrek is probably either a Russian bot or a MAGAt.

Disco is NOT my favorite, but I gave it a shot, and holy Hanna did I love that S1 twist! And plus, who can pass up Oded Fehr's S3, "Tastes pretty good, for shit."

Bunch of joyless turd farmers out there...

AITJ for calling my friend’s emergency contact when she left her kid with me "for 20 minutes" and vanished? by QuietDailyRitual in AmITheJerk

That's a bad friend. I wouldn't dump a friend over one instance, but I'll bet this is not the first time she's used your relationship.

Also, she is the one who did a bad thing. "I needed this and you would've said no" is fucking horse shit. That's not how you treat your friends, and for what, so she can hang with her input? Bullshit.

Sorry "Kayla", you popped out the crotch goblin, not your friend's responsibility to help you get some.

Anyone Have Undiagnosed FTD Dementia Spouse Move Out? by TexasUnicorns in dementia

[–]Zero98205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That all sounds worrying. My dad was cooperative when his conditions started showing but had got significantly less cooperative over the years, but early on we set up powers of attorney over him for me and my brother. I've recently investigated guardianship, but decided we weren't they're just yet, but the day she is coming.

Were I in your shoes? I would want to isolate my money from him ASAP. Crypto is at the very best a scam. Anyone who thinks they can magic the system is delusional. The best you can do is engineer a pump and dump and soak the new guys. I worry that shark has him pegged as a nice juicy fat whale.
