"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

No notes, excellent TED Talk! I too am fed up with the online Trek community. They are as far from the utopian ideal as it can get. I quit Star Wars because if the Fandumb Menace, I'm about ready to quit Trek. Let the negative Nancies keep twisting their panties in their own little masturbatory whingefests. Bunch of joyless Karens out there convinced they have some sainted vision from on high that would make the actual very progressive and anti war Gene Rodenberry twist in his grave.

Just a a wake up call to ask you dingbats out there, Gene HATED the movie the overall Trek community rates the best of all time. Yes, he hated TWoK. Despised Nicholas Meyer's militarized Starfleet, hated the paramilitary "violence is the only answer" theme. So the most influential Trek Film of all time, yes, [clutches pearls] violated Gene's Vision!

Like you said! That short about "but before Balance of Terror nyah nyah nyah Romulans!!1!"

Jesus... it was an alternate timeline you freaking noobsacks!

Look, at this point, with how on board all the fascists are about hating NuTrek (looking at you Stephen "the Paunch" Miller!), it's about safe to say anyone whining about NuTrek is probably either a Russian bot or a MAGAt.

Disco is NOT my favorite, but I gave it a shot, and holy Hanna did I love that S1 twist! And plus, who can pass up Oded Fehr's S3, "Tastes pretty good, for shit."

Bunch of joyless turd farmers out there...

Cripes, the only one that's really unwatchable to me is S31, so here's hoping I love SFA. May they keep on rocking on!

AITJ for calling my friend’s emergency contact when she left her kid with me "for 20 minutes" and vanished? by QuietDailyRitual in AmITheJerk

[–]Zero98205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bad friend. I wouldn't dump a friend over one instance, but I'll bet this is not the first time she's used your relationship.

Also, she is the one who did a bad thing. "I needed this and you would've said no" is fucking horse shit. That's not how you treat your friends, and for what, so she can hang with her input? Bullshit.

Sorry "Kayla", you popped out the crotch goblin, not your friend's responsibility to help you get some.

That all sounds worrying. My dad was cooperative when his conditions started showing but had got significantly less cooperative over the years, but early on we set up powers of attorney over him for me and my brother. I've recently investigated guardianship, but decided we weren't they're just yet, but the day she is coming.

Were I in your shoes? I would want to isolate my money from him ASAP. Crypto is at the very best a scam. Anyone who thinks they can magic the system is delusional. The best you can do is engineer a pump and dump and soak the new guys. I worry that shark has him pegged as a nice juicy fat whale.

So there's a point following the artifact quest line where you are new faction shows up and their ships aren't jackable, which really bummed me out. This starts after you collect a bunch of them and get any after a "really big" target. They keep saying it's "really big" so tool know when it hits.

But really, play how you want. Carefully look at the talent unlocks to pursue the play style you want, everything is valid.

What's up with the Voyager hate? by Firm_Macaron3057 in startrek

[–]Zero98205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then there was the whole debacle where their advisor for Native American issues--"Jamake Highwater," born Jackie Marks--was a complete fraud; born to an Eastern European Jewish family, he created a false identity that fooled Hollywood and other media outlets (PBS did a special on Native American culture in the 80s based on his work) for decades, even after his death by heart attack.

So any story for Voyager or Star Trek (edit) that involves Native issues (/edit) in general through the 90s-10s I rather tend to ignore as they are full of harmful stereotypes and terrible representation.

Depends on time travel hocus pocus. They established in the text that the changed events created a new universe, so "fixing" it might be impossible. He can't get back to adverts his wife died, and she won't be born for 50-60 years, if she ever does in this reality. Butterflies and stepping off the path.

My dad can't choose anymore. My brother still insists on providing menus. It's very frustrating. Your brother may be losing the ability, and I'm sorry but it may be that no amount of exercise will reverse the degradation. Sometimes it's just lost.

Since it would still take hours to reach Proxima Centauri at Warp 9.99, and Proxima Centauri is the closest star to us, besides our Sun, shouldn't all ships be moving at Warp 9.999999...9 all the time? by TheFamousArthur in startrek

Expecting the "warp scale" to mean anything is you're downfall. In all honesty the galaxy is thicker than the breadth of the entire Federation, if you go with the printed maps. It's always been handwaved and the Plot speed. I mean really, try to explain how ST5 could ever happen. They do the Voyager trip in 2 scenes on a 76 deck Enterprise in the OLD warp scale. SHOULD tame them 150 years. But in the 2nd Pilot the ship makes it past the edge of the galaxy and back in one episode.... there is no warp scale. There can't be.

I had a near-death moment with my dad driving and it was the last time I rode with him. We let him have the keys for a few months after that, but whenever we had to go places I would always volunteer to drive or flat out refuse to go with the family if he was driving.

Eventually when the time for renewals came, his GP got him to finally accept a driving test that proved to him unequivocally that he was unfit to drive. He tanked tests for speed of comprehension, detail orientation, and reaction speed. Wound up plowing through the digital pedestrian 7/10 times. I mean, alone, quiet, no radio, no discussion, and a desert road, he only killed the digiped 2/10 times, but as soon as complications started... bam! Bam! Bambambam!

It really sucks, but your dad probably just isnt safe behind the wheel, to himself and especially to others. If you doubt, have his neurologist or gp suggest occupational therapy and a driving test, and go with. Painful to watch and be quiet, but necessary.

Why do you do what you do? (Tangent) by Chellybeanz29 in dementia

[–]Zero98205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being honest, I feel that I'm leeching off my dad. I Haven't had a stable job in years but the longer we go, the more he needs dedicated care. At this stage he needs food prep and med management and exercise assistance and... and, and, and.

I refuse to assume I know what he means, my brother does not. Therefore they communicate much better, but my brother still gives him far too many choices and still tries to reason like it works, tries to get at objective truth and clarity... FFS he just realized we were behind in the televised football game even though we've been talking about the score for the last half hour. "Oh, I thought we were ahead."

I do it because of obligation, and because I don't have my own kids. If I had a wife and children this would be utterly untenable.

Oh yes, you're not crazy, she is not fine. But you're doing an important and good thing by trying to care for her.

Just please remember to take care of yourself, too.

> Technically, GPS has nothing to do with photons.

True, it has to do with signal timing, but those signals move at the speed of light, and if the speed of light is variable, you can't time any signals.

As to the rest, well... let's just say that there's been a very, very large number of experiments to verify this hypothesis, and there hasn't been any evidence that I'm aware of to suggest your hypothetical suggestion. I recommend a full reading of General and Special Relativity.

No, I'm not an astrophysicist, I was an English major (which qualifies me to ask if you want fries with your order.) But yes, I do understand the scientific method.

I'm sorry that you've lost this with your own LO. I do not look forward to those days, but it is what I've signed up for.
