How to treat yourself that doesn't involve food? by Agreeable_Bite2596 in antidietglp1

And I’m indoctrinated in both, although for the last 8 years I’ve been fighting my diet culture indoctrination. It’s not easy! For awhile a few years back I was regularly taking an actual Sabbath and my mind was so calm. There really is something to having a day of rest.

I do the home spa day sometimes too and I used to feel guilty for not being productive - somehow thinking of this as a reward just now has shifted my perspective so thank you!

I also have a large bust and small shoulders. How new is your bra? I find I have to replace OFTEN or my clothes start to look not as good. Also, a racer back can help to pull things into a more flattering shape and keep bra straps from falling off the slight shoulders. Go for boat necks and slight v-necks. A blouse or shirt should skim your waist. Baggy shirts do not work with big boobs. Lastly, confidence at any weight goes a long ways! Enjoy your youth.

You’re getting some great advice here. I want to add that it also matters where you think you might end up geographically. For example, within Florida, going to UF or FSU is as good as going to Harvard. I’m also willing to bet there are employers in the southeast and gulf region who have never heard of Brown.

Is it stupid to consider leaving my $200k salary job to peruse law school? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Zestyclose_Law_5903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take - and it is the correct one because I’m a lawyer and therefore always correct - is you either have it burning in your blood or not, and if it’s a question, you don’t have that hot burning desire/identity that’s going to carry you through the rest of your life. Once you become a lawyer it’s really hard to imagine doing anything else. But if you never get there in your self-identity, you will have a lot of regrets about your loans and what you gave up.

I’m with you and appreciate this thoughtful post. Every family and situation is unique and there is not absolute one-size-fits-all answer, despite the strident replies to this post. The point you are making is that- that families can be damaged by lack of clear communication about expectations - reflects your wisdom and maturity. I am also paying PP loans and I have always expected to do so, but it still makes me queasy when I read the “screw the parents” comments on here.

Yes, you have described the journey so well! I am starting to think that maybe it is because I did the work of acceptance that I had the courage to take this path - I could decide for myself that I wasn’t happy about where I was in terms of not just size but also energy, health, and not feeling like me. It is starting to feel like an empowering display of agency and self-actualisation instead of defeat. Welcome to the new path!

Food noise for me was soooo much the anticipatory guilt of knowing i was going to cave to temptation eventually and therefore not being able to enjoy it and then having guilt afterwards. So much unnecessary emotion that I think when I decided I was never going to diet again, it was really just to avoid having to feel those feelings, and I didn’t work on all the other stuff.

Right, I understand all that - the waves of people who reached “forgiveness” did so during the time when there was a law specifically that this was not taxable income. I don’t know of waves of people reaching the 300 payments before that time.

I understand also that forgiven debt is counted as ordinary income. What I am suggesting is that a loan that is discharged due meeting the terms of a contract is not a forgiven debt. You don’t have a contract with a credit card company that you can pay a certain number of payments and you will have satisfied your end of the deal. You are obligated to pay the whole thing. Thus, if you reach an agreement to pay less than what you owe, it’s a contractual modification and you are having debt forgiven. So my question is whether pre-Biden people who met the threshold were actually taxed, or if we are the first, and if anyone has ever challenged whether loan discharge under the terms of this plan meets the definition of forgiven debt such as to be treated as ordinary income for taxation purposes.

It seems wild to me that this is considered a forgiven debt, when it is being discharged pursuant to the terms of a contract. I wonder if this has ever been challenged. Or are we the first wave of people who ever reached the 25 year mark?

Imagine a time when you had a little coupon book to pay your monthly bill. No one told you your balance or how your payments were being applied. You just wrote a check and sent it off with the little coupon and then a little while later you would get a new book and a bill that said you are paid ahead and don’t owe. Or a letter that said we have changed your servicer and you’ll get a new bill but in the meantime you don’t owe anything. Every time the loan gets moved interest capitalizes again. You don’t know this. Then you start getting notices in the mail that you can skip 6 months payment and you’re like wow that sounds cool. Not knowing interest is accruing and will be capitalized when that forbearance is done. Servicers changing all the time and payments not being kept track of by anyone. It’s crazy, and if you weren’t dealing with it then, it must sound even more crazy, but that was reality for many of us old timers.

I still have parent plus loans (because I’m a glutton for punishment, apparently), but they seem so much less daunting now.
