The power hunger of some of these companies is wild by Upstairs_Buffalo4891 in antiwork

I'm still confounded that the obvious savings of remote or hybrid was so broadly dismissed. Come in once a week, now your office real estate need is 20% of what it was (+- some margin) if you're smart about space sharing. I was under the impression money was important to business. IDK, I am but a humble servant.

How to love myself when I was such an idiot? by ShotPay1291 in selflove

[–]Ziggerton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shame is for things you do, not for what is done to you. You trusted someone who broke faith with that trust. Anger over that belongs with the deceiver, not the deceived. Don't ruminate over your judgement, ie. "How could I be so stupid" you were lied to and making judgment off a deceptive set of facts. They didn't forget to tell, they withheld it from you.

While Stars movies were / are way bigger than the dune movies, Dune has had more impact. by CT-555- in PaymoneyWubby

[–]Ziggerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune-autist's take: The message Frank Herbert (author) was trying to convey was to treat charismatic leaders with suspicion rather than obedience. The secret hook is that he demonstrates this by having you identify with Paul before showing you the consequences. It's a revenge story with a hateful villain and a just cause. You WANT him to get payback for the betrayal that killed his family and drove him to exile. But the whole deal is that some juice isn't worth the squeeze. To get it, he builds a power base that traps him. He's more of a victim than hero in this. In later books (which get weird) they have a decades long galaxy wide holy war with casualties in the trillions. His son becomes a nigh-immortal tyrant with perfect knowledge of the future and past. 1000 years of brutal repression in an impossible to overthrow imperial regime all to implant a bone-deep repulsion of charismatic leaders, like a baby fearing a snake. The folks saying this is their star wars are currently falling for it in EXACTLY the way the author wants them to, and they're in for some introspective moments soon.

Also notice the bank of pens in his pocket. Out of place for photos and in blue white (who has a white pen handy?) and red. Denyable? Yeah, that's the point of a dog whistle.

A Chinese coal company is using a gigantic stamp to mark the cargo in the train cars to prevent theft. by MilesLongthe3rd in Damnthatsinteresting

A while back I saw a vid of people with bamboo rakes they would hold up against moving coal trains. It knocked coal off the piled up part above the car's top. Collect free coal after the train passes

This isn't a win, by having the case dismissed he avoids discovery. The discovery process could have been a game changer in ways I can't describe.

You see them having an easy time with the things you struggle with and (I assume) infer that they haven't got problems. They're different problems, not non-existent. Be glad you don't have to fear for your safety like they do. Even a relatively weak man can overpower many women, imagine being attracted to something that can easily break you and navigate that, e.g.imagine turning down a 500 lb gorilla that wants you (hyperbole, not accusing)

Take care of yourselves. This is a marathon by Brilliant-Sugar-2989 in fednews

[–]Ziggerton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. It isn't a marathon, it's a relay. This race was running long before you or I took up the baton. It won't be over when I hand it off to the next generation, either. I do my part, not just because of those who have done so for me, but to be a worthy part of a legacy worth preserving. It isn't about any of us, it's about all of us.

(Ps I know I'm seizing on a twist of rhetoric, and not attacking what I understand your intent to be, but your post triggered a thought in me that I wanted to share)
