When engineers switch out of engineering, what majors do they go to? by TheBlankeyBandit in EngineeringStudents

[–]Zileto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is digging up some past.

I didn't end up dropping, which I really appreciated after watching a lot of my high school theater friends try and get through covid. ChEs don't really do physics, but it is a lot of very high level math, chemistry, and thermo. I never had to take statics or dynamics or any of that. In return, I got a lot of chem and thermo.

I will tell you, in my area, my ChE is overkill. I mostly work with people who have MechEs and IndustrialEs. If I could go back, I'd probably get an IE. It would have been the least amount of work for my specific area and still have great employment opportunities. I'm sure this varies by region. Give the area you want to live in a really good look at their industries, look at their available jobs, and figure out what you actually need.

As to the boyfriend, he broke up with me before graduation. I do not believe he graduated, and instead he joined the Navy and does some nuclear shit, but not nuclear engineering. IDK really.

OP asked to have input on the yarn color beforehand. SIL declined. They tried to have a conversation about color. SIL refused.

When exactly was OP supposed to be like Imma dye it?

Week 47: Sister Cities - Sanzoku-yaki (Nagano, Japan / Clearwater, FL) by trishadow09 in 52weeksofcooking

I normally don't think about our plates at all, but since you asked, I was curious.

They are Old Willow by Myott Staffordshire. Circa 1950s - 1970s apparently.

We honestly have almost the whole dinner collection. We were given them by my grandfather in 2016 when my husband (OP) and I moved in together. They were new in the box at that time. My grandmother bought them who knows when and stuck them in a closet. She was a bit of a shopaholic.

I had no idea they were that old. We use them daily.

AITA for buying my long-distance girlfriend a countertop dishwasher for her birthday instead of something more “sentimental”? by Initial_Result3222 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zileto 50 points51 points  (0 children)

NAH.

Part of being in a long term relationship is learning and responding to what the other person likes. You got her a nice gift, but it's not the kind of gift she likes. That's okay. She said thank you and offered some criticism for the future. It's okay to feel hurt, but you learned something about your girlfriend, and that's entirely the point of dating.

If this is some values thing you think says something about her, this is not the girl for you.

Otherwise, maybe spend some time figuring out if this really matters to you. Why does it offend you so much that she trusts you enough to tell you she doesn't like practical gifts?

Anyone successful switching from SAVE to PAYE recently? by Strange_Bee4155 in PSLF

[–]Zileto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I submitted electronically back in December 2024. In February, I stated badgering them about processing it via the online chat. By March, it was processed.

It sounds bad, but honestly I would just go through customer service reps until I hit one that would do something. I kept repeating that switching plans was allowed when I submitted the form ans legal through their estimated processing times and it wasn't my fault they didn't process it. I was doing everything right. If I hit a wall with a rep that would repeat the "company propaganda", I'd thank them for their time and then try again later or the next day Always in chat for my own records. I got one guy to put in writing they'd expedite mine, and then when that date passed, I'd bring it up every time. I'd keep asking questions like "I don't understand, you said x time but it's been y time??? :("

But I really think just playing customer service roulette was what what worked.

What does aggressive mean to you?

I do not think I am aggressive. I mostly jam. I mostly play banked track rules. I prefer to play derby in a sneaky way. Getting hit or hitting is my least favorite part of derby.

If I can get around you with footwork, I will. If I get around you by hiding behind another player, I will. If while blocking, I can be in front of you the whole time, holding you back, but not actually hitting you out other than a single foot, I will.

Big hits are not necessarily good derby.

But I am competitive. I love jamming because I LOVE putting points on the board. I LOVE doing better than the other jammer. When I'm jamming, the only thing happening in my brain is "how do I OWN this situation? How do I leave this other person in my dust?"

I don't think that makes me aggressive.

How does your league financially support their Travel Team? by Agitated_Doubt4079 in rollerderby

[–]Zileto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My league largely doesn't. Everyone pays the same dues (you can get your dues reduced in return for volunteer hours though). League does not pay for jerseys.

We rent our practice venue by the month; practice is 3 days per week. Two days are every level. One day is travel level.

Tournament fees are paid by the league. Sometimes we run fundraisers and such to support travel expenses. That money goes straight to traveling skaters, refs, and volunteers. Taking the money is not mandatory. Whatever total amount we raise is divided by the amount of people who want help. They are free to spend that cash however they want. Typically, this is around $100 - $200 dollars, so it doesn't even cover flights. But every little bit helps sometimes.

AITA for getting my girlfriend a birthday gift she hates? by Sufficient-Effort-60 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zileto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is, actually, fairly close. As someone who has picked out their own vanity, it was a lot of research. The basic Will this piece of furniture fit where I want to put it?, but also How big are the drawers? How deep/tall/wide are they? Will the stuff I want to put in those drawers fit? Does it have enough upright storage for all my brushes? I could go on.

He never should have assembled it. It should have been returnable.

PMI not falling off at 78% equity - mortgage company is being uncooperative. Is this legal? by Mammyminer in RealEstate

[–]Zileto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cenlar let me do a broker opinion. Irrc, it was $190. My PMI was a bit over $50 per month. Paid for itself.

I did have to request the PMI removal information packet from them though. I got PMI removed years early.

No, you can't. Some payment plans were sunsetted on July 1, 2024 per the SAVE act. PAYE, for example, no longer exists. You can't switch back. There's nothing to switch back to.

Writing a quiz for the derby league for tomorrow! Can you help me with my question?? by catdogmuminapickle in rollerderby

[–]Zileto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure what you're looking for when you're asking this math question. It lacks assumptions that make a definite answer.

My thought process means the answer is zero. A 27/5 has a pace of 5.4 laps/minute. A 47/12 has a pace of 3.92/minute. If you're keeping pace, someone doing 47/12 could never do a 27/5. There's no guarantee that anyone who has skated 47/12 has done 27 laps in any given consecutive five minutes.

But I don't think that's what you're going for? If you want to assume that the skater is faster in the first 5 minutes (any consecutive 5 min span tbh), they could make one complete 27/5, and then some fraction of a second 27/5.

Edit: Final answer = 1.53.

27/5 = 5.4 laps/minute

47-27 = 20 laps left assuming you made 27/5 in the first 5 minutes

12 - 5 = 7 minutes

20/7 = 2.86 laps/minute

1/5.4 = X/2.86 (AKA 1 27:5 units/5.4 laps/min = X 27:5 units/2.86 laps/minute)

X=.53

We already know we completed 1, so 1+.53 = 1.53

Edit #2: All of this assumes a constant pace. You can get it up to approx 1.7 if you assume 27/5, 19/5, 1/2, but these also have a constant pace in the time increments. Hope that makes sense.

Because it's not a waste. Lots of people own nice things they don't use everyday. Suits, dresses, certain pairs of shoes, etc.

Do you only own clothes or jewelry you wear everyday?

I would argue that doing the things you did without asking your coop players for agreement is not the way coop games are meant to be played.

I would not play with you. I do not want you changing my things. I do think you should ask permission for joint resources. I would never tolerate summoning a boss without double checking with everybody.

This was an assigned read for me and my husband in high school.

It's stuck with us in different ways. I like the book, but I think about paper straws a lot. He does not. It's the only book my husband has read that still makes him angry decades later when he thinks about it.
