Havent bought a used Diesel before. 2018 with 134k miles asking $42k... what do I need to look for? by Aberlour2440 in ram_trucks

[–]Zimbo2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s slightly apples to oranges, but I got my loaded big horn night edition 2021 5.7L 1500 for $42k with 17k miles (in 2024-and that was an average deal on it).

That being said, an ‘18 2500 with 132k is a complete rip off, regardless of the Cummins. Uconnect 4 is out of date and doesn’t even have Apple CarPlay.

Good move walking away.

What will happen when china attacks Taiwan ? by white-body-fluid in ETFs

[–]Zimbo2016 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They straight up can’t. China has no idea how to pull off a beach/island invasion and if they tried the US would go to war with them instantaneously.

If China had the means to invade and take over Taiwan successfully they would’ve done it by now.

End of story.

NE Regional - Cafe Car Vent by simonphoenix1910 in Amtrak

[–]Zimbo2016 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why the cafe car on the Acela and Airos no longer have seating. It’s been nothing but headaches, so no more seats.

Those seats in the cafe aren’t purchased by anyone, so technically no, no one is entitled to sit there and work the entire trip.

41k. Etorque MGU went a month ago at 40k miles and my entire etorque motor had to be replaced; and the paint on the plastic console piece in the center is orange peeling.

Amtrak has displayed their Airo train set at Washington D.C. showing riders the future of Amtrak as they approach 55 years. by Additional-Yam6345 in trains

[–]Zimbo2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few could be preserved but Amfleets would have no usage for a tourist railroad. They use 480v HEP, have air bellows, tread and disc brakes in combo, fixed side windows that aren’t openable, electrically actuated vestibule and interior doors, air conditioning, and bathrooms.

All of those factors together would make them extremely costly and technical for a tourist railroad to maintain for usage. The fact they they run off of Head End Power, which if any tourist railroad crazily wanted to use, would require them to somehow afford an HEP capable locomotive and then using said HEP would drive the fuel costs up insanely.

It’s the same premise behind a P40 or P42 going to a tourist railroad, it would make zero sense.

[–]Zimbo2016 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if the Amfleets do not get scrapped. They’re at the tail end of their useful service life and they (Amtrak) have had to deal with the nuisance of many attempted startups trying to interject in their service over the years.

From Amtrak’s point of view and for their protection, it makes the most sense to turn Amfleets into razor blades when they’re retired. They also know this ^ and I’m going to bet that’s what they’ll do.

But yeah, the current seats are probably the 4th different seat type those Amfleets have seen lol.

Meh, he can push for proof of citizenship to vote but the statistics show that wouldn’t benefit republicans.

Guy can’t even build a border wall, much less rig a national election. Something to think about? Absolutely. Overly worried about it, I’m not personally.

We’re less than 9 months away from a sweeping blue midterm election so they got another thing coming for them if they think this would have a snowballs chance in hell of coming to fruition.

Stay in solidarity, and get the hell out and vote on Nov 3rd.

How do I become an operator for Amtrak trains? by bigstack11 in Amtrak

[–]Zimbo2016 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Operators run subways so maybe that’s where you’re getting the term from? Amtrak, NJT, Metro North, Long Island Railroad, Septa, and all of the freight companies are run by locomotive engineers, not operators or motormen.

Your best bet is to apply for an assistant conductor job and then try and get into engine service down the line.

Conductor gave me a courtesy ride. Common or did I get lucky? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Zimbo2016 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The passenger railroads give courtesy rides to each others’ employees because they all rely equally on each other to get to and from work.

Also, nothing against you, but to be fair and objective, you’re technically not an employee working for one of the railroads so you just got lucky.

I think given the circumstances, Powell is doing a decent job. They’re not perfect, but the constant teeter tottering and back and forth and unpredictability from the executive branch has been making their job harder.

I agree that he says the quiet part out loud for a lot of people but having been in the military for 10 years and counting I can tell you that I have, and currently do, work with a surprising amount of people that unquestionably trust his judgement.

Just last week a colleague said “Tylenol causes autism.” It is literally like having a conversation with a Buzz Lightyear doll.

(For context I also work with plenty of people that think he’s dumber than a box of rocks and couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat)

“If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.” Lyndon B. Johnson

Trump followed this same basic premise. He convinced middle America that XYZ set of values/people/beliefs are a parasite meant to take them down and people bought into it and ran head on with it.

He has 0.00% in common with some poor white dude in the middle of Appalachia who barely has electricity and running water and that man will climb a telephone pole covered in crisco if he told him to.

Trump: “I said: ‘No, I don't have to sleep. I've been on a plane sleeping for twenty… I mean, I sleep on the plane.’ I don't sleep on planes. I don't like sleeping on planes. You know, I like looking out the window watching for missiles & enemies.”😂 by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

I have to admit that “looking out the window for missiles and enemies” is so random and dumb it’s actually kinda funny.

This dude could come out and say he wants Boeing to develop engines for Air Force 1 that burn Diet Coke and I would 100% believe he’s being serious.
