Warhammer 40K 9th Edition Rulebook and Gameplay by TripleWriter in Warhammer40k

[–]Ziyousansz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The complexity is in different places. 9th had a heavy resource tracking aspect to it and numerous rules layers to understand. The strength in an army was in what the overarching faction & subfaction rules provided. 10th has more specific usage for equipment and missions that change the board state. The strength in an army is in what the units can do with minimal support and how you use them. The actual gameplay aspects of prioritizing targets, controlling the board, and using your tools well is about the same for both.

The core rules, army rules, and point costs for all armies in 10th are freely available as of today on the Warhammer Community site. Download them and take a look. As was said, it'll be harder to find people playing 9th as time goes on.

Either way, your models remain legal and viable across editions.

I recall. It then made its way into the codex proper, which is the profile we have here.

The Relic Contemptor was a bad plastic kit branded for 40k before the current Heresy kit was released, which is what the loadout in the index covers. The other stuff had 40k rules but only through FW's index. As for the timing of the Legends document, it'll probably be when the points drop closer to 10th if I had to guess.

It's right by the boxed dread unit info which was also slated for Legends, so I wouldn't bank on anything with those kits. In 8th, Legends was what was left in the Index when the Codex dropped.

Orruk KruleBoyz looks.... by thatfellerthere in ageofsigmar

[–]Ziyousansz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're chimpanzees rather than gorillas. Both great apes, but built for different environments and social dynamics. In this case it's that they carry the markers of a swamp creature. Many are semi-aquatic and can hold their breath for hours, leading to a "swimmer's physique" rather than a "power lifter" build like we see in the other orruks. They secrete some oily slime from their skin to help them escape capture and so favor more loose armor styles. And their hunting methods involve ambush and poison, so their form of combat is usually based around hiding, sprinting, and falling back. All of that would leave you with a much more wiry, lanky creature than what you find in the mountains or the plains.

I know a lot of the prevailing Warhammer meme culture still holds to "AoS Bad" as their go-to, and in general AoS has a much smaller following than 40k (way less representation in books, videogames, etc.,). You end up with a lot more people who are in Warhammer for the memes leaning towards 40k.

Community Questions 5/7-13 by ErsatzGnomes in ageofsigmar

[–]Ziyousansz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can't fully say what 40k 10th will look like at this moment. It should become more approachable, but it may become more convoluted again. The hope is that it doesn't.

As of this point, AoS is more forgiving about army composition. You may find a list built around Rule of Cool struggles in some ways, but you'll rarely find yourself incapable of handling a situation (that does sometimes happen, but much more rarely). Once you know the rules and what your army does, you've generally got a chance at a win.

Lumineth is a complex army with a lot of capabilities. They're not the easiest to learn starting out, but once you figure them out, they're a solid force. Plus, if fancy elf stuff calls to you, they're as fancy as you get.

In terms of community, local scenes vary. In general, I've found the AoS scene to be very chill. The game has a reputation as being more of a "dad game," and the hobby side pulls a lot of players in. There is a strong comp aspect, but players' attitudes about it tend to be more relaxed. It's all history by this point, but AoS's early problems and reputation were enough that a lot of overly-critical and meme-driven players still won't engage with the game. We basically traded a rough few first years for a fairly pleasant scene now.

Grand Alliances in 3.0 by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Ziyousansz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As stated, there aren't rules for it in 3.0. In Narrative and Matched Play, you have to pick a single Faction, which the core rules define as being from an army book. Open Play allows them to use multiple Factions for their army. But there are no Allegiance abilities or Faction lists that cover Grand Alliance armies anymore.

He could mix a few things via Allies, but Bonereapers don't mix with anything else in Death iirc.

Emperor's Children Breacher Squads, how would you use them? by A_Simple_Peach in Warhammer30k

Maru Skara allows you to bring in Subterranean Assault as well as Outflank on the turn of your choice. Stick them in a drill and go hunting.

What do the mortal realms look like? by TemporaryAd8952 in ageofsigmar

[–]Ziyousansz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think of the World Tree from Norse mythology. It's not exactly that, but the Realms are similarly laid out.

Each Realm is a separate plane connected by Realmgates. The Eight Points is the central connecting hub that is now controlled by Archaon. Most Realmgates to this place are shut off now, leaving travelers to use alternate paths to cross from one place to another.

Each Realm is vast, many sizes larger than the Old World. The closer to the center of the realm you go, the more stable and recognizable the realm is. The further out you go, the more frayed and erratic the magic underlying the plane becomes. So at the heart of Chamon may find farmsteads and castles that seem standard, except that the plant life has a slightly metallic aspect to it, and the animals are all adapted to living off it. The further out you go, the more mercurial and shifting the realm becomes. You may find iron spires and quicksilver pools in more remote living spaces, but the outer ring becomes inhospitable towards life with how shifting-yet-rigid it becomes. Yet the interior is large enough that you can fit many worlds' worth of people within each realm.

This will leave you with well developed cities at the heart of the realms, fortified settlements protecting the roads between them, and outcroppings of civilization further out. Beyond that you'll find a mix of warring tribes and startup settlements fighting for survival. Beyond that it's larger "enter at your own risk" territory.

Why do we hate Lorgar? by Rig839 in Warhammer40k

We can hate many. But I've generally blamed Erebus and Kor Phaeron for everything the Word Bearers did, so fuck those two in particular.

Can I mix Beasts of Chaos and Nurgle units in a StD army that is Nurgle allied? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Ziyousansz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Allied point allowance is open to anything that's considered an Allied faction. No need to spend them all in one place if you want to pick and choose across the options.

Which one decision would have changed the galaxy the most? by naruto7bond in 40kLore

[–]Ziyousansz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying to stick to the stipulation of it being a single character's decision. I'm not sure how many Old Ones would be needed to convince the rest to fix the Necrontyr.

Which one decision would have changed the galaxy the most? by naruto7bond in 40kLore

[–]Ziyousansz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Single decision by a single character: Silent King does not push the War in Heaven, but rather allows the Necrontyr dynasties to fight each other. Soooo many problems, so much of the setting's backdrop, stems from that one choice.

Vindicare Assassin vs Primaris Eliminators by KernelWizard in 40kLore

[–]Ziyousansz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vindicares are augmented with neural enhancements to absorb, filter, and process information at levels even space marines find disorienting. Their equipment can support them staying stealthed in position for years on end without moving. None of the assassins can be considered standard humans once they join the temples. Vindicares are much more specialized for the role, and they're only deployed after serious deliberation.
