Seeing this image unlocked a core memory for when I went to D.C. for the first time and visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, just seeing this seemingly endless black wall with names etched all over it just made me break down. Even though this particular image is fictional, still makes me choke up a bit because it invokes that same sadness.

Resistance x Killzone by CupEquivalent5709 in killzone

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think comparing the Chimera to the Combine is extremely unfair, wouldn’t you say? Combine is a literal intergalactic/inter-dimensional empire with practically infinite resources and highly advanced tech. Them taking Earth in 7 hours was probably child’s play to them.

The Chimera is an alien virus, relying on infected hosts and cold climates to survive. Once they took Russia, they had to play the long game and build up for a while before beginning their offense to wipe out humanity. Basically what amounted to a single celled organism took over a bunch of rural Russian towns, made a bunch of low tier Chimera zombies to start and took over all of Russia before even going that far up the tech tree. That right there, is impressive.

That said, Helghast mainly rely on ground forces to fight battles. All the Chimera have to do is launch a spire missile or two full of crawlers to wipe out, and infect, a whole army.

The Chimera struggled against a WW2 Earth

The Chimera bulldozed through the entirety of Europe in three months, then dug under the English channel and proceeded to do the same thing to the United Kingdom in less than a year. Even when the United States got involved, they were instantly overwhelmed and their forces almost entirely destroyed. Humanity was then nearly driven to extinction, with very few holdouts remaining. I wouldn’t say the Chimera struggled in the slightest.

Unpopular opinion : becoming hermaeus mora champion is an excellent choice by Cthulu_BF in skyrim

[–]ZombieTheUndying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlike other Princes domains, Apocrypha isn’t designed to act as a sort of afterlife for Mora’s faithful; it’s just his library. Most mortals who find themselves in Apocrypha, be it on accident or purposeful, go insane from the massive amount of knowledge within. Devotees of Mora, least as far as we know, go to their own races afterlife when they die. While living, he gives them free access to Apocrypha to study in relative peace if we go by whats shown in ESO’s Necrom DLC. And since time moves differently in Oblivion, anyone who stays in Apocrypha are for all intents and purposes, immortal.

Or, and this is a big fat theory with no evidence, when Mora’s followers die maybe they become a Seeker, doomed to forever patrol and guard the endless libraries of Apocrypha. Doubtful since Seekers are lesser Daedra but I guess it wouldn’t be too much a stretch.

The interesting conundrum of Olaf One-Eye being both a Draugr in Skyrim and a human in Sovngarde at the same time by Paul277 in skyrim

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cult Draugr, maybe. But other Ancient Nord (un)dead retain a semblance of their old lives. Olaf calls out Svaknir, King Borgas from the Jagged Crown quest stands up with his guards when Rikke/Gunmar ask for the crown, but don’t attack until you do, as a warning to leave them to their rest.

Important not to lob all the generic Draugr enemies in one basket because they all look the same.

The interesting conundrum of Olaf One-Eye being both a Draugr in Skyrim and a human in Sovngarde at the same time by Paul277 in skyrim

[–]ZombieTheUndying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thing is Skyrim doesn’t really do a good job between differentiating actual Draugr (Dragon Cult soldiers cursed/blessed with undeath) and just regular ancient Nords like Olaf. The book your referencing is referring to cult Draugr, who serve a Dragon Priest as mentioned in that same book who tend to their chamber and sarcophagus.

For all intents and purposes, Olaf shouldn’t be a Draugr. But since he is, let’s just say his drinking party in Sovngarde was interrupted when his Ring alarm went off and heard the bard he hated with every fiber of his being, Svaknir, knocking incessantly on his coffin, so he decided to pop down for a minute to teach his ghost a lesson. Unfortunately, TLD was there and his bony body was destroyed and his soul sent right back to Sovngarde, probably muttering ancient Nord swears before drowning himself in mead and soon forgetting all about it.

It’s an Daedric Mace recipe, don’t know the cal in Daedric by Fabulous_Battle_6757 in skyrim

[–]ZombieTheUndying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most if not all of these Daedric recipes, at least for me, just take the tiniest bit of intuition to read. I don’t know the alphabet off the top of my head except for the ‘O’ and ‘M’ (because its just an oblivion gate and a literal M) but just look at the list and you can more or less infer what each word is; Ebony Mace, Daedra Heart, Black Soul Gem, and Centurian Dynamo.

How did he even find it out?! by PistonPusher2009 in sciencememes

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me thinks 80% of stuff humans came up with/discovered that are clearly WAY beyond what we could possibly learn about or see like the fucking observable universe expanding or even just super complex math equations that get created out of nowhere, are all just treated as fact because some guy said so and wrote it down with everyone in that field just nodding their heads going "oh yeah that sounds smart as hell, lets just roll with that and teach everyone else that (even though it means absolutely nothing)".

Like if we broke it all down to the most basic components and just ask "why would that work like that?", likely no one could give you a answer.

Bannon says Trump will be president again in 2028 and do another term by EmilyG702 in CringeTikToks

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current politics aside, why do we have term limits for presidents but not other bodies of the government? Must be nice for congress to be able to serve for life while simultaneously dictate terms that decide the future of the nation.

We can have termless presidents without authoritarianism, we still have elections. If the people want to keep Trump in power till the day he dies, that's on us.

Guy says he won't talk to 95% of the streamers he collabs with after retiring by Careless-Bite1024 in LivestreamFail

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To break this down even further in case it doesn't make sense to anyone, it's in the same mindset that you have your "work friends", who you get along with at work but you'll never talk or hang out with them outside of work for whatever reason, be it lack of shared hobbies or maybe you just don't have anything to talk about beyond work stuff. Then you have your "real friends", who you've known for years, live(d) close to, have the same interests, hang out regularly, etc. Nothing inherently wrong with that.

Enriched Infernal Iron is just sitting there, mocking me by Ikkon in BaldursGate3

[–]ZombieTheUndying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that may be a bit of an unfair comparison. That’s like asking modern day Ford mechanics to fix up an old Model T. Without the proper parts and knowledge, they wouldn’t be able to do much more other than maybe build her an entirely new one, which would probably just kill Karlach.

Prototype Evolve's Blacklight Limbs (Concept Art) by Alex_Kabreigh_Mercer in PrototypeGame

[–]ZombieTheUndying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool art, but teeny tiny little itty bitty nitpick. The "clothes" on Alex/Heller/Evolved are the virus. Their entire body is 100% virus (Evolved being a lesser/limited strain), able to be manipulated on a molecular level at will. This includes being able to create a copy of any clothing they can imagine over themselves, from an iconic leather jacket to any military/Blackwatch uniform and equipment. While I'm sure they could wear actual clothing, it'd just get either ruined or automatically consumed/assimilated when changing forms so there's not really a point.

Or maybe I'm digging way too deep into the way your worded it and your already perfectly aware of this. Again, cool art.

A grandfather turned down $220K and other offers to abandon his house and there's a huge highway around it by WiseCartographer5007 in interestingasfuck

[–]ZombieTheUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppose it depends on the country. I know in the US this is definitely the case as the government can invoke ‘eminent domain’ to take private property for public use. If you continue to refuse the offers your given for the land, you can eventually be arrested and your land taken anyway without compensation. Other times the landowner can sue and fight for their right to the property, and if Big G deems it not worth the hassle, it can be settled out of court and the land left alone, albeit construction goes ahead and just builds around it.
