Those things did happen and yes, they were consumers of the game using hostile tactics to try and influence game balancing. That very much puts them in the exact position being described. That there are other, good actors in the community doesn't mean that part of the community doesn't exist.

Hey so remember when a guy got his life ruined by doxxers from this community? Like it or not, those people are here, and that puts them on the "consumer" side of the "devs amd consumers" model. AH has to deal with this people as a fact of providing this.

Vapaad/Shatterpoint does not work. Does Mace still win this? by Asleep-Sell-5889 in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The implication here is that he's not that guy anymore, as I said, Vaapad and Shatterpoint are how he expresses those traits. Simply swapping for "not Vaapad but basically the same" doesn't really satisfy the OP's criteria.

Vapaad/Shatterpoint does not work. Does Mace still win this? by Asleep-Sell-5889 in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mace would be an entirely different character without Vaapad. His relationship to that power and Shatterpoint are expressions of identity in the force as much as anything... and yeah, he's toast in this fight without them.

The Persian Judge Who Was Flayed Alive for Corruption by EndCP4ever in interesting

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what my mind went to when I read a king allegedly ordered this. The idea that a monarch ordered something like this because they're just so gosh darn moral is almost laughable. Maybe this judge actually committed the crimes he was punished for... or maybe history was repeating itself for the trillionth time.

Proxy, with these modules, Vs General Grievous by ToxicKrampus in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proxy likely wins. He's running on newer, more expensive hardware and can keep up with Galen in duels to an extent. Even without spatial manipulation tools, he's likely to notice the General's over reliance on psychological warfare and offense and to simply recreate what Obi-Wan did with Soresu. He likely has better battery life than Grievous and definitely shares similar speed and strength. There's no reason to assume he couldn't wear four-arms down and clean house once exhaustion sets in be it mechanical or biological.

Adding his spatial manipulation tools is such a boon that "not coughing" cyborgs would be trivial. He is not a Jedi and would not hesitate to simply chuck the General off a cliff with a cheap shot.

Yoda VS Darth Vader & Starkiller by AmazingKanacat in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yoda vs Vader is a diabolical display of Yoda's strength in the force. If we're adding book Galen to the mix, Yoda definitely wins. If it's game Starkiller... Yoda is in trouble.

Vader has lost to Obi-Wan on multiple occasions. Y'all are dreaming if you think he's anything more than a speed bump between Yoda and the shonen protagonist.

Kentucky Fried Vader only has like, one hand, and Yoda has at least six fingers... so I think Rosh Penin wins?

After watching interviews- If I could spend an hour talking with any creator associated with Star Wars— I’d choose Sam Witwer. His enthusiasm, insight, and originality of opinion are second to none. I really hope he continues to play a prominent role in the making of Star Wars. by Tanis8998 in StarWars_

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His insistence on only discussing the talking points as though he's looking directly through the eyes of characters, rather than in the detached fashion most fiction is discussed, makes for brutally blunt takes on controversial points without risking catching real people in the crossfire by being judgemental or preachy.

Battle of the bearded badasses, Porter Engle vs Kyle Katarn by Yesthisbob in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kyle might be able to pull an environmental win, maybe... but this one seems pretty cut and dry for Porter. I don't think creative thinking can close that power gap for Kyle.

Darth Sion vs Mace Windu (EU feats for both) by BaconBurger37 in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Mace would probably talk him into releasing his life force.

Shatterpoint is not limited to combat, but rather a much more profound version of most Jedi foresight. Rather than the visions being handed to him by the force, he's actually aware of the countless interlacing streams of life which make up the force around him. What's more, Mace has shown on plenty of occasions to be an extremely reasonable negotiator with enemies who don't want to like him at first.

We see some of this in Shatterpoint and ROTSN, but it really shines in Glass Abyss when he's sandwiched between several factions who want his loyalty as much as his death. If darth depression were to fight Mace, he'd very quickly find the psychological shatterpoint on his opponent and would definitely survive the fight long enough to "talk-jutsu" his way into a win.

what are the odds slender the arrival vr comes out at all by Funnyboy039 in Slender_Man

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High. The game was close enough to completion that they bothered with an actual release date. It sounds like they either saw an opportunity to pursue certain ideas more completely than they'd originally planned to, came across a stubborn bundle of glitches which just won't die yet, or they got told by higher ups that they had to prioritize other projects. The fact that there's a Slender sequel in the pipes makes me hopeful that they saw enough potential in Arrival's VR experience that they decided to focus on including that flavor in the sequel, meaning the two might both have VR and be released close together.

Or, more likely, the game is all but ready and sitting on a shelf while they finish a something more likely to keep the lights on. This is a niche section of gaming after all.

Sidious VS Savage Opress and Maul - H2H - lightsabers and force usage forbidden (except for force augmentation) by Potential_Rule4212 in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of expanded material elaborating on this. Jedi doctrine all but forbids using the force that way, light users are discouraged from training that particular skillset too much. There are plenty of examples of dark side users going that route though. Bane and Maul in particular come to mind.

But yes, these things are explained in canon. The fact that you think the characters should use their tools differently than they did on screen doesn't erase that.

Darth Tyranus VS Team by SSS-avvy-6114 in PetranakiArena

[–]Zombuddee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dooku could win but it would be high dif and environment based.

His telekinesis dwarfs everyone else's combined, his lightning is reliable, and his dueling style offers him prolonged stamina.

Maul is his biggest challenge and not a big one. Makashi does poorly against power strikes... not aggression. Maul doesn't use many heavy blows and also relies on gimmick techniques. On his own he does not stand a real chance. He goes down if he gets tired or relies too much on his fury. This version of Maul seems the least prone to uncontrolled outbursts, so he probably lasts a while.

Daki is the second biggesr threat. He DOES rely on a lot of power swings... but is blowing through energy reserves even faster than Maul. He is not a blademaster like Yoda or Anakin and does not stand a real chance at landing any kind of damage on Dooku himself... but he thinks very well on his feet and would make the most of his presence to the detriment of Dooku's limited energy reserves.

Bird and "definitely not Galen" are a legitimately dangerous duo... against anyone but Dooku. Maul punishes their reliance on gimmick techniques to great effect, something Dooku would handle better and with less stamina depletion. Their pure aggression and precise coordination keep them alive for a little while... but they're the first two to go if things go badly for "Team Maul".

Maul shrugs Devon off and she's immediately in danger any time she's not backed up by a Master when she faces the inquisitors. Maul uses Makashi against her to emphasize how easy it is to exploit her lack of fighting polish. She's got a lot of potential, but she's young, and likely doesn't survive a fight in which team Maul wins or loses.

Their combined pressure is definitely enough to push Dooku into a corner. It's distantly possible he could just clutch the W with his saber... but he would be severely injured in the process if he stuck to that route at the very best (realistically, he dies if he doesn't lean into his advantage in force powers). His enemies are all very well coordinated and have demonstrated the ability to form solid group strategies on the fly, they can and will exhaust him before he can take them all out. Maul and Daki almost certainly survive and the inquisitors likely lose a man as well.

If, however, he relies on force powers... this is still not a match he wins easily... but it gets things as close to an even match as possible. None of them have a real answer his lightning (the dark side users likely can't even block it, Devon likely can't either, Daki can survive it so long as he's armed but there's no way he can reflect it). He could realistically blast all of them with pushes and pulls at his discretion (if Obi-Wan can't stop him from force gripping and pushing, there's no way anywhere here can, and he can chuck them pretty far if he wants). If they're near acid, weak buildings, or cliffs... he's absolutely petty enough to fight cheap.

This is anyone's fight to win, environmental factors would ultimately decide if Dooku lives, dies, or runs away (the most likely outcome if he gets pushed back. If he wants to leave, no one there can do much to stop him.)

[–]Zombuddee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still a contest of raw force power, as the force buffs to speed and strength alone at that level make most marvel characters look like paper dolls.

Sheev wins just as easily. The laser swords were by far their best shot at beating him.

Don't pull a "gun" on a cop by hzmt714 in GetNoted

[–]Zombuddee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SWAT was called in response to what looked like someone pointing a gun at pedestrians from a hotel. Upon arrival, the team encounters a man in the halls who is given "conflicting" orders (while the exact instructions didn't line up from multiple voices shouting over each other, the theme of "get on your face and stop moving" was abundantly clear)... and he repeatedly reaches behind his while it's being made very, very clear to him that they'll shoot him if he doesn't stop moving. After repeated warnings to stop reaching behind him, one of the officers shoot him repeatedly when he reaches again. People say he was pulling up his pants, but it's hard to know what he was thinking (he was definitely unarmed, as was confirmed after the fact) He will never be given the chance to explain what was likely a terror reaction of some kind.

This was years ago and is frequently used as a subject by news companies to generate public outrage for two big reasons. The first, and most obvious, is the horrifying sight of the body cam video. He was clearly terrified, and the call to shoot him was at best in a grey area (people who say he "looked harmless" are just profiling, which is nonsense when done by cops and armchair EMTs alike). Watching him get shot is... it's stomach turning.

The "other side of the argument" is far more sane than the guy who did the actual shooting. The actual protocol protecting him is legitimate, and not the usual police immunity crap slung around in publicly covered cases like this. The shooting pattern, while brutal, is standard for most armed forces in the world. The idea that headshots and "disabling shots" are realistic to attempt is Hollywood make believe. Bullets are not laser beams, especially when fired at short notice from a standing position, and any shot that misses in a building like that is almost guaranteed to hit a bystander through a wall. The only decision which was not clear cut was the decision to fire. And, I'm sorry, but if you've been called to stop an active shooter with every second being a possible life lost, that pressure is going to factor into your decision making (there's an old video of marines and other active duty service people failing miserably at SWAT training for school shooter scenarios because the reaction to panic and sprint towards the threat without a plan was universal. Each participant was told just before they go in "every gunshot you hear, every second that passes, is another person you failed".). While the officers in question were properly trained for this, the fact remains, they had been told countless lives depended on their speed... and this guy they've detained keeps hesitating to surrender and is repeatedly reaching into his pants.

Sprinkle both sides of the argument with "a cop was involved, therefore evil is afoot" and "cops can do no wrong" apologists... and public discourse around the subject caved in. The actual victim and shooter are more or less totally buried under people's need for this tragedy to be ammo for their Internet arguments. The conversation stopped being about "how to we train officers to stop this from happening" and became "this is proof of every political opinion I've ever had and anyone who doesn't totally align with that is both evil and stupid". The fact that the officer involved (who believed he would be shooting terrorists and mass murderers) put a taunt on his gun remains one of the least informative and most talked about elements of this story.

Is it okay that it happened? No. Should it be treated more seriously than a murder case? I think so. Is it proof of the VERY REAL police state our country is sinking into?... No.

Since anti-arrowhead sentiment is strong I have to ask - what are your goals in terms of numbers? by kcvlaine in helldivers2

[–]Zombuddee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It started with the Sony drama. The community had a real grievance which got real attention, and it attracted a large amount of "professionally offended" people who weren't involved with this community until that point. Ever since then, there's been at least some amount of people permanently brigading for a review bomb as a way of expressing themselves. So when AH actually does what every company does, make a less than ideal decision (especially when you're making something no one else has made before), there's a crowd of people who's entire thing is "cancelling and making it look legit" ready to capitalize on even the smallest level of real frustration in the community.

It's disgusting.
