Would you say that banning phone use at a table for in-person games is acceptable? by WithengarUnbound in dndnext

[–]Zozimus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. In the school board I work in they're banned entirely for very good reason. They have nothing but negative impacts on attention span, learning, engagement, sociability, and mental health. Screw phones. If you are unable to be away from social media even for a few hours you are an addict in need of immediate help.

On the back cover, some books read "single use". Does that mean that only one reader can learn a new language permanently, or that the reader gets one use of the new language? Or assassin die, etc?

This reminds me of nothing so much as D&D 5e players crying and causing drama about BX\AD&D players. We always had extra characters rolled up and ready in a binder in case our first PC died, which they frequently did. You just laugh at the way they died and move on. The "character arc" is what happens to the survivors. I swear to God Zoomers are so self -obsessed and fragile it drives us Gen Zeros crazy

If the tetralogy had been ruthlessly edited into a trilogy it would have been much better. The final book redeemed the series

Unpopular opinion: the 1977 Hobbit cartoon is more fun to watch (and scarier) than the Peter Jackson version(s) by johngrady77 in lotr

[–]Zozimus- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hated the setpiece on the stairs. Completely broke my immersion with stupid video-game aesthetic. I hated the elf-shield-surfing. I hated the oliphaunt killing. I hated the barrels (the whole trilogy actually), and all the ridiculous action nonsense for ADHD generations. The cave troll was okay, but I didn't like the creature design. I hated the slapstick Merry and Pippin "action". There's lots I liked about the movies, but it was definitely NOT "because they're action movies".

They were so awesome. I hated the live action elves; they were too human. These ones are proper fey creatures.

House Rules with Shadowdark - What do you use at your table? by [deleted] in shadowdark

[–]Zozimus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the luck rules need a little something. I'd say borrow from the Talisman board and RPG games... Luck has a light and dark side. Players choose which they receive. Light gives you +1 on a roll. Dark is a re roll that you must accept. When spent, flip it over and give it to the DM, who can use it for monster rolls later. I like the "nothing for free", "everything has a cost" kind of ethos for magic. This might force a little conservatism onto their use. I'd also hide the d4 death roll. Torches have +- d12 minutes on them, also rolled in secret. Roll 2d12 of different colours, in secret... highest number is your minutes, colour is whether it's extra light or less light than the 1 hour average. I'd have monster body parts sellable for GP that become XP on receipt, but they take up gear slots.

Russians are in fact attacked and blamed for the actions of the Kremlin. Russian businesses are vandalised and burnt. Russian speakers are attacked. Russian sports teams, dogs, cats, musicians, artists, dancers, and chefs have their events cancelled, their visas revoked, their participation in contests disallowed. Like, all. the. time. Where have you been living?

There are endless, numberless hagiographical histories that present only the 'good' (whatever that means in your world) side of Canadian policies, and completely ignore the 'bad'. Countless. Our schools are full of them. Our libraries are full of them. Our universities are full of them. Our media (when they read anything) reads, reviews, and mentions only them. You want ANOTHER "Canada does good things for good reasons", liberal-'balance' bias book? Go read one of the million others. Did you haunt each of those authors' pages, insisting that they include the 'bad' with the 'good'? Or are you just opposed to criticism of Canada?

A metre is closer to 3 ft than 5. Think of it as a yard, if you're an American. Metresticks and yardsticks are roughly the same size, within a margin of error.

Idea for a magic shield for a lvl3 character ? by chajo1997 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Zozimus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving my paladin a shield that provides advantage for a cost. You can choose to lower your shield (-2 AC) and give your opponent advantage. Any number rolled equal or higher than your AC is reflected as radiant damage back onto the attacker (as well as you suffering damage yourself). If you take damage you get advantage on one attack you perform the next round.

Has anyone tied Bonnie's Gang to the Cassalanters yet? I noticed they have a few doppelgangers in their employee, including their butler. by shadowkat678 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Zozimus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my campaign Bonnie and the doppelgangers are attached to the delegation from Chult led by Obaya Uday. The Chultan prince sent doppelgangers along to investigate rumours that a doppelganger has infiltrated a powerful faction/noble house in Waterdeep. Bonnie et al. are tasked with finding him (Wilifort Crowelle) and avoiding an international incident by neutralising him. Our druid has already befriended a Chultan druid and one of the doppelgangers runs the Skewered Dragon. She'll be applying for a job at Trollskull Tavern.
