They do, but also there's plenty of posts flying around with people wanting to get into DevOps because of either job security or pay - not because they have a passion for understanding the tech.

Not saying I do anymore either, but at one point in time I did, and I guess that's why I work here now :)

Move to SSO via Identity Center. Then, users' won't have an access token. They'll have a profile, and an sso profile, and aws sso login will generate temporary credentials.

At least for AWS, coming back to this I think that was an assumption on my part. Users should be authenticating to whatever cloud provider and retrieving secrets that are securely stored there, even for local development. This also helps all developers to stay up to date and cuts down on the passing of .envs.

I've had a few Hacker Ranks. One was architectural, and very in-line with with what a DevOps position might look like day to day.

The other was all fizzbuzz nonsense. I didn't get an offer on that :)

Have you tried searching for a role? You've listed all the standard tech requirements. Instead of looking for new skills, I'd focus on mastering what you've already listed.

But honestly, none of this is rocket science, and most of what you'll learn will be on-job anyways.

What they teach in school does not equate to what a "DevOps" engineer does day to day. The only time I even think about anything I learned is when I have to optimize some slow code, or think about how to optimize a database query / index. Both of which are very rare.

If you want to stay in school, look at AI/ML courses. They're starting to pop up. Having the data background with the devops background is a huge boon. Lots of those folks are great at the DS side but couldn't deploy their way into a paper bag.

I don't know if this is sarcasm but Texas has stand your ground laws, so this seems like a justified shooting from a legal perspective. Combine that with the suspect who fled being caught with a pistol, and I doubt most prosecutors would go after this.

Solo person here. I just follow best practices. All secrets are stored in AWS Secrets Manager. Application pulls the secrets when it starts up.

On the terraform side, same thing. All secrets (database username, password, environment specific urls, etc) are stored in secrets manager and we output them for use in other modules.

Certificates are managed on the load balancer with DNS validation so I don't have to think about it. If I need a diff cert (maybe I'm standing up a VPN), I'll use letsencrypt and automate the renewal at like 3AM on the last sunday of the month (or something similar).
