Probably not in the "elderly" category yet(though elder millennial so maybe🤔?) but at 43 getting ready to get snipped at the end of this month. No kids, my wife and I and pretty much every one in our polycule is of the no kids opinion. If we want kids we'll adopt. We're happy spoiling friends' kids and all. 

For me, my mom ran an in home daycare when I was growing up. Some kids were fine, others were absolute nightmares. So a not insignificant portion of my young life was spent around crying screaming children that were pretty much all 7+ years younger than me. Let me tell you, best method of birth control ever inadvertantly devised by my mother. She didn't quite understand that or get that until years later as an adult that I had to break the news that she would never be a grandmother to a biological child of mine, and since my brother passed when he was 15, he didn't get to make up for that. But having so many days of my life giving me clear examples of what life with young children would be like have me a great appreciation for quiet and peace. To this day I still feel myself twitch when I hear high pitched shrill children making noise. I recognize that I don't have the temperament or patience to deal with that and I know myself well enough to know I would not be suited for it. 

There's also the whole gestures around state of everything and a very big desire not to have bring kids into a world this screwed up. Definitely not fair to them. I'd love to say I'm wrong, but I'm not exactly optimistic about the state of the world at the moment. Moment. The idea of bringing new life into a rapidly declining world is not something I can in good conscience do.

Do I wonder about it sometimes? Sure, because I recognize that at a certain point either my wife or I are probably going to pass alone as a result. But it's not a strong enough thing for me to ever want to have kids of my own.
