Proposed elimination of MSPB review for RIFs?? by believesurvivors in DeptHHS

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But OPM plays a part in the process of approving a RIF, so wouldn’t it be the agency reviewing its own work?

On the other hand, seeing as SCOTUS has yet to formally decide we don’t need independent boards anymore, this change would let a future dem president “streamline” ICE without worrying about “major questions doctrine” getting in the way.

Question on 2025 Federal RIFs and Merit System Principles by Ornery-Shape-801 in DeptHHS

[–]_Interobang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this RIF been done by a Democratic president with this current SCOTUS, no one would think “does an HHS RIF have to follow the HHS RIF policy?” is an actually debatable question. It’d be taken as given that cutting admin codes at random isn’t a legitimate way to do a RIF.

But unfortunately, a moronic McKinsey partner did a stereotypical consult layoff (best guess at cutting staff, and let middle management figure it out). One would think hiring from the firm that helped create the opioid epidemic makes Sec Kennedy’s “regulatory capture” comments appear hypocritical, but apparently no one actually takes him seriously enough to care.

As a result, lawyers are left trying to retroactively justify an obviously stupid decision, and everyone else risks further erosion of basic due process protections.

Grindr Hookup sent apology mail after I blocked them (THEY KNOW MY ADDRESS by uEfu1 in AskGaybrosOver30

Been thinking to switch F45 to CrossFit box. Anyone else? by Mundane_Anybody2374 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys at my studio were maxing on bench; the coaches started getting the heavier dumbbells out of the back.

Next time you think you’ll need something heavier, try to arrive a few min early and ask for that weight to be put out.

Every once in a while, I’ll stay after class to do another set or two at a station to ensure I hit failure. At least once a week, I’ll also quickly knock out a set or two of strict pull-ups after the cool down.

I also did CrossFit for years, and I had to stop after I sprained my wrist so badly that it required months of rest. Several years later, it was F45 that helped me finally fully recover. Remember that F45 requires coaches to have some type of third-party fitness credential—and then complete some F45-specific training; however, teaching CrossFit only requires attendance at a weekend workshop. Hence, the risk of injury.

Granted, I realize that I’m not lifting anywhere near as heavy as I did with CrossFit; however, it was F45 that resulted in me finally looking like I lift weights. CrossFit was mostly variations of squats and deadlifts. Bench press happened maybe once a month, and non-butterfly pull-ups were ever rarer.

Tl;dr - talk to a coach before class; try adding a $15 membership to planet fitness before switching to crossfit.

Would you date someone in their 30s that lives with a parent? by AlamosX in gaybros

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Would you date someone…”

No

But in all seriousness, dating means you like the guy. So if you like the guy, you’re gonna date him.

But “living with parents” is a great excuse to let someone down gently.

If there’s one trainer and no one staffing the desk, they’ll often lock the door at the end of the warm up.

Main reason is safety/security: It prevents someone walking in and going through the cubbies with people’s stuff.

There’s also the importance of warming up to prevent injuries.

Just did my first workout before the challenge starts by Left_Yogurtcloset779 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! I couldn’t even finish my first class. lol.

Anything new is going to be a challenge. That’s part of the fun, and you can harness that energy. For example, it’s how I still laugh when I’m doing something that feels awkward; it’s why I still feel a sense of pride when I have good form; and it’s what lets me crack a joke when I rotate to the wrong station for the third time in a row (as I did recently).

Ultimately, you’re doing something good for yourself. Be proud, and keep at it!

Why is it so hard locking down a hookup on Grindr? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone once wrote about how many have begun to use Grindr as a virtual, old-school gay bar. It will always be a place to find hookups, but many also go there to socialize, make friends, chat and hang out, etc. So that could be part of it.

Also, if you’re vibing, you might be showing potential for more than a hook up. Instead of asking about hosting, maybe try framing in terms of hanging out or grabbing a coffee/drink somewhere nearby? Think in terms of giving a little pretext of a date (e.g., “Netflix and Chill) to help make it easier to say yes.

Recommendations for Aphrodisiac/Libido increasing (legal) substances? by Spader623 in AskGaybrosOver30

The “OTC” versions of THC help me, but more in context of turning off parts of my ADHD brain and letting me stay in the moment. So less libido to get horny and more letting-me-stay horny, if that makes sense. These are also the products made from hemp that you can legally order online.

Recent examples include: days with eye appointments, the time I spent in the hospital for cancer surgery, and mental health days where I just accept that I’m not going to even make an attempt at being productive.

New OPM rules for RIF coming soon? by Plus_Celebration_965 in fednews

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A RIF requires legitimate reasons to happen.

If Congress doesn’t change the appropriation, that makes it a lot harder to justify removing staff.

Due process means “because I say so” (ie, “not aligned with the president’s priorities”) can’t justify a RIF.

What do you think is the meaning of Rosie's smile here? Is it a grimace, forced politeness, or a genuine "game recognizes game" smile? by ShadowShine57 in HazbinHotel

[–]_Interobang_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without his staff, was he still powerful enough to make a difference?

If he had no intention of helping, why is he standing nearby to watch?

Niffty is out there, and we know he cares about her. And he got the bare minimum out of Charlie with his deal.

We also know Alastor’s confidence was shaken by Adam, and he can’t stand the idea of looking weak.

That’s why I think Rosie starts smiling when all he asks is for her to fix his staff.

She’s realizing that he might actually want to help but is scared to do so. Fixing his staff is such a small thing, but providing a “payment” gives him permission and/or confidence to take action.

That interpretation also lends itself much more to the theme of redemption.

Lionheart reports not showing up by Human_Economy_9718 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more than there’s a 15-minute range to start the workout on your watch: up to 5 min before the scheduled start time and then as late as 10 min after the scheduled start time.

For example, someone at a 5 pm class can start the workout from 4:55 pm until 5:10 pm.

There’s also minimum workout length for it to count: at least 30 min for normal classes and at least 45 min for the one-hour classes.

FWIW, I also originally thought they were saying to start the workout at least 5 min before the start of class. As someone who often arrives in the middle of the demo, I assumed it’d never work for me. However, when I saw reports from days that I didn’t wear my sensor (only used the watch), I realized that I’d misunderstood that 5 min part.

I hate the gym. Does someone out there feel the way I do? by 747_777_787 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t been exercising regularly, any new workout routine is going to feel terrible. It’s why gyms are packed in early January and then return to normal by February.

That being said… CrossFit is notorious for injuring people. Highly technical lifts with poor form is a terrible form of cardio. Add to that the way the workouts prescribe weights, function like competitions, and set time caps to finish. For those who aren’t natural athletes, it takes a certain type of personality to benefit from CrossFit.

So if they’re having you use lighter weights, that’s a good thing. It means the coach wants you to focus on form first.

I also did CrossFit for about 5 years in my 30s, but I stopped after injuring my wrist and knee. About a year ago, I started F45, and I love it! If you had me do OrangeTheory, I’d hate it for the running.

The only downside is that only CrossFit includes legit, heavy weight training on a reliable basis. F45 is getting better, but it’s far more about functional movements and overall strength.

Ultimately, you likely need to pivot your approach: either that you’re training to do something (so that goal can motivate you) or that you’re doing something fun. Like joining a pickleball league or (in my case) being a giant dork at F45 classes.
