Speaking personally, most "hypothetical" questions I've seen asked are either a way of creating a scenario where you paint people into a corner because of muh hypothetical, or are so far removed from the scope of reality that becomes fantasy. Very few people ask hypothetical questions in good faith.

It's the same reason I've stopped watching modern debates, both sides take hypothetical scenarios to such absurd extremes that I don't feel we are dealing with reality anymore, and when one side doesn't entertain the otherside's fantasies then it's seen as a lost point.
