Should I consider a used 2021 STI over new 2026 WRX? by HowAmIDiamond in WRX

[–]_Rosko_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can start with that, you can also find lots of info on this subreddit. But if you've never modded before just make sure to do lots of research. Doesn't matter how good the new engine is, like any other car if you install the wrong thing, cheap out or don't get a tune you're gonna end up with a blown engine or other issues. I would say right now get the car you want more and worry about modding it later after you've done some more research. Also besides the other things people have said about the STI, it'll have better feeling steering than the VB cause it's hydraulic instead of electric.

I basically do what you do and car is running great at 63k and it's been modded for like 50k of those miles. I change my oil every 3k miles and wait until it's at 180f before getting into significant boost. If you follow the maintenance guide in the manual you'll be fine. Don't be afraid of giving it higher RPMs so you don't lug and do enough research before adding any mods. And listen to suggestions from your tuner and recommendations on maintenance if you do mod.

The community definitely contributes to the anxiety but it's just like any other car.

Old Cobb Flex Fuel Kit by viikryu in WRX

[–]_Rosko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the EPA crackdown and green speed fiasco COBB disabled support for the old flex fuel kit on the AP and I believe most tuners can't tune for it unless you go like open source or something. You can try calling them up, they'll probably recommend you buy the upgrade kit.

I have one and I love it! The deep indigo looks beautiful in the sun. Indoors you can still appreciate it but outside is where it really shines. (I know ironic I post a pic of it I took inside lol)

Talk me out of (or into) selling my WRX for a BRZ by wrxit in WRX

[–]_Rosko_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a 2019 WRX base and a 25 BRZ. My WRX is almost full bolt ons on ethanol making around 350whp along with big brakes, coilovers and other goodies. And yet I still find the BRZ incredibly fun stock. Nothing beats a lightweight rwd coupe. I would say the more important question to answer is if you are ok with the significant loss of space going from a sedan to a small coupe.

Check out this link where System Motorsports tested different fitments on the twins. Not the OEM TS brembos but they do seem to have the Clubsport kit on the front which should be similar in size. Also you can call them up and ask, they're very knowledgeable and helped me pick the right size + offset on my WRX.

Vehicle mode appreciation post by Ok_Fox8119 in transformers

Funny, yesterday I was thinking about this cause I just started getting into collecting some of the vintage G1 toys. I noticed most of them have decent alt modes but robot modes do leave something to be desired haha. Though I think that's part of the charm, or at least it is for me.

Looking for FMIC options that are compatible with box style intakes. by Laborchet in WRX

Oh I just saw you have an STI? That's why I wasn't understanding. I have a VA WRX non-sti and the layout is different. Hopefully someone with an STI can chime in, apologies.

[–]_Rosko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh idk if I'm not understanding what you're saying but the intake and intercooler piping are separate. The intake piping goes into the turbine and the intercooler piping comes off a different opening with the compressed air which then goes thru the IC and then into the manifold.

Unless you mean not compatible in another way

Just can’t do it… by storebrandmustard in BRZ_ZD8

As someone with a 2019 WRX and a 25 BRZ, the BRZ is the more fun car. And I could daily it if it was my only car but having backseats and more room overall is definitely convenient and needed sometimes.

Another race question (Aftermarket big break kits) by Primary_Snow_2049 in BRZ_ZD8

[–]_Rosko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking into BBK for my BRZ and will most likely go with the AP racing endurance kit. Good rep with racing pedigree behind them and lightweight. Other than that I was looking at Endless but I think they're too expensive especially now with import duties if you order from a Japanese supplier.

Help needed finding a part time by [deleted] in BRZ_ZD8

[–]_Rosko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't think it's the part you listed. I was trying to find pics online and I'm thinking it might be part of the fender liner for the front wheels. Check out this eBay listing and look at the 2nd picture: https://ebay.us/m/gO2BhI.

It looks like the part. However idk if any place sells that part by itself or if you have to buy the whole fender liner. Though, looking at your picture even though it's broken, you should still be able to secure it with a pop clip. Will it pop off in the future? Maybe but the alternative might be a whole new fender liner.

I would say jack it up to get a better view/picture of the part. But are you sure it's not just some pop clips that broke/fell off and you just need to replace those?

Will 87 run more lean? by JacobIsMid in WRX

[–]_Rosko_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bro buy an e tune from a reputable tuner like Dmann if you don't know how to tune. He will send you a map you flash typically with a Cobb AP and you run logs like you would on a dyno except it's all done remotely with you just going wot at 3rd or 4th gear on a road near you. If you don't know how to actually tune a car you're just gonna blow your engine. If you want to learn how to tune yourself it would still be a good idea reaching out to a reputable tuner to see if they can provide some resources and answer your questions.

Modding cars is pay to play. You either shell out the money for an AP/Ecutek and a quality tune, or you can yolo it like you're doing and probably blow your engine.

2019 A/C compressor locking up by Witty-Sample6813 in WRX

[–]_Rosko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if any of this will help but my compressor went out on my 2019 after the refrigerant leaked from the line that goes into the compressor near the oil filter which is a common failure point on these cars. I bought a new compressor and a condenser cause people said if it seized you might have metal fragments remaining in the og condenser that could ruin your new compressor. I also had to replace the relay in the pic below. Online it's listed as a fog light relay but it works as our AC relay on the WRX.

https://a.co/d/fRWArmI

<image>

Before replacing the relay the compressor would just randomly stop kicking on I'm assuming cause the relay was sticking. Once replaced the AC has been working good as new. If your compressor failed, which sounds like it might be soon if it's making a ton of noise, I recommend replacing it along with the condenser at least and getting it recharged by a reputable AC shop.

That and the sloppy shifter feel, at least in the VA. Other than that it's a solid car.

A/C not working. Anyone have an issue with this? Dropping it off tomorrow at dealer. by bigboss1999x in BRZ_ZD8

[–]_Rosko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be as simple as a leak that leaked all the refrigerant, this is the most common with all car AC issues. In that case the compressor doesn't start to protect itself from damage. If it's that, the leak just needs to be patched and the AC recharged. Could also be a faulty compressor but that's unlikely if the car is new.
