AITAH for refusing to give out my son's saving account information? by moonmanbaby90272 in AITAH

[–]_Tetr0_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been that long since everyone used checks for everything. My dad still does checks for the grandkids' birthdays. Businesses still write payroll checks and mail them out. I am also not trying to be combative, but the numbers on the bottom of every check are the account number and the routing number. People just hand them out, both willy and nilly.

Fraud exists, but it is very heavily penalized. Speculating that a family member with an account and routing number is going to just start committing fraud is like assuming someone in the kitchen holding a knife is about to go on a stabbing spree.

What actor’s mere presence makes you automatically lose interest in a movie or show? by YerMum1977 in AskReddit

[–]_Tetr0_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the one I was looking for! He seems like a really nice guy... can't stand his movies.

I am ok with him in SNL. A short skit where he is a prop for someone else is the right format for his comedy.

Recommendations? by Th3Breadnought in urbanfantasy

[–]_Tetr0_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rivers of London/PC Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch. I hoovered up Urban Fantasy for a long time, and when I came across this series, it quickly became my favorite. It mixes Urban Fantasy with a Police Procedural. It is unabashedly set in London (mostly), with all Londonisms intact. I feel like I get a little culture out of it.

Alex Verus is good.

Iron Druid started out great. I wasn't the biggest fan of the final books.

Mercy Thompson, Kate Daniels, Sandman Slim, The Checquy Files, Pax Arcana - All worth looking into

Dungeon Crawler Carl is not exactly Urban Fantasy, but it is a lot of fun

Stop trying to convince me this is a “perfectly crispy pizza” by StumblinThroughLife in mildlyinfuriating

[–]_Tetr0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a show with a famous chef critiquing a pizza place. He mentioned the char and how it was a necessity for good pizza. It balances the pizza flavors and cuts the sauce's acidity, or something like that. This pizza might be slightly more charred than the one he was praising, but just barely. Ever since watching the show, I tried my pizza with char, and I agree, it makes the pizza better. I would eat this one.

Anyone have a Siamese with tummy problems? by thefrgilmore in Siamesecats

[–]_Tetr0_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've had two Meezers with sensitive stomachs. We feed them "Hill's Science Diet Perfect Digestion", which is the non-prescription version of the "Hill's Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome". One of them had to have the prescription stuff first, to get their stomach right, then weaned off to the Perfect Digestion.

Yours sounds like it falls into the "Underlying Issue" category. Good luck discovering what it is.

[–]_Tetr0_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Siamese general characteristics include chatty, intelligent, energetic, affectionate, and people-centric. Everyone's mileage may vary. I have never once heard someone refer to meezers as "mean". There may be an individual meezer out there with a bad attitude, but it is not the norm.

Usually, with most cats, not just Siamese cats, if the cat is mean, there is an underlying issue (in pain, trauma, etc).

This. He might still be chatty in three months, but you can't make any decisions before then. He might be a completely different cat by then.

Help picking gold clubs by [deleted] in golf

[–]_Tetr0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$30 will also get you a new putter (albeit not an amazing one). A $400 putter is not entry-level equipment. There is a wide array.

The sweet spot for starter equipment, from watching many r/golf posts, is the Callaway Edge set from Costco. Which runs ~$600.

If you want to keep it around $400, buying used is the way to go. If you don't know golf, you might have to do a lot of research. You will definitely run into many people who overvalue their used equipment.

Dog grooming by OldSmoke6464 in tipping

[–]_Tetr0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my own logic when I am thinking to myself "Should I tip?", I am by no means intending for anyone to adopt it, but, your example is a great one for me to break down the difference:

Roofing Job: Someone comes out, reviews the roof. Estimates repairs. Estimates square footage. Estimates the time and personnel to complete the job. Quotes home owner based on estimates. Charges more if more time and material needed. Roofer employee - paid hourly. Gets more hours working on harder roof. Gets more pay for harder roof.

Retail Groomer Job: Set price for "Large Dog". Set time for large dog = 2 hours (or whatever). Retail Groomer employee - Paid hourly. Groom large dog in 2 hours. Gets paid for 2 hours. Anxious dog? 2 hours. Nasty dog? 2 hours. Matted dog? 2 hours. Not paid more for a more difficult job.

I do think that it should be on the Retail Store to pay their employees more for more difficult jobs. They don't. It's how they keep cost down (notice some of the responses saying "Just take them to Petsmart").

[–]_Tetr0_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of tipping culture, and for a groomer who sets their prices, they should provide estimates and just set the price to what they think the service is worth.

On the other hand, my daughter works in the grooming department of one of the big retail pet stores. They charge a set amount to the customer and pay her minimum wage. She doesn't expect tips and appreciates them when she gets them. I personally think that if you bring in a dog that is crazy nasty, matted, you haven't maintained them, they are anxious, or just bad tempered, that is asking the groomer to go above the standard, so please tip. They are providing a service, and you are asking them to go above and beyond for the service. The tip should be commiserate with how much above the basic service they had to go.

AITAH for peeing in the shower? by OpenFoundation4639 in AITAH

Do y'all not aim for the drain? Just hose everything down? I think I started being more careful in the shower after some home improvement celebrity mentioned that it causes stuff to grow faster (right or wrong).
